- Many people seem concerned with the amount of free space on the new Surface Pro computers. I show you how to get an additional 14gb of free space- step by step. It should take about 15 ~ 20 minutes for the whole process.

Just a little note here...when I was creating my recovery disk, I thought I was putting it on my flash drive, but I was actually putting it onto my microsd card. When I realized it at first I thought I should redo it, but then I thought its actually probably safer on there because the card never leaves my tablet. I'm not sure about corruption issues or stuff like that, but this may be a safer option for those who are less risky. I also like Charlie's skydrive idea. Could be handy...
You can. I actually just finished doing this. Once you create your recovery partition on your usb drive, you can copy the files off it back onto your desktop and upload them. I uploaded mine into my skydrive by creating a ZIP file split it into 2 GB potions using WinRAR. I also copied the files onto a different usb drive without using Microsoft's recovery software, and it still booted that usb just fine. So you can safely keep a copy online, just in case you lose your flash drive.
I didn't get the option to delete the recovery partition, what would be the steps to doing this once the new Recovery Partition has been created?
I did this but I lost access to my files on my external hard drive. Please advise, thank you!
after i deleted the recovery partition, the free'd up space was placed in a new volume (g). i cant seem to add it to my c drive?

@darthjosh85 yes you can. I have a 128gb surface pro and I have installed all my steam games, software apps to the micro sdxc card. I also installed software to a 128gb flash drive . That is an unwritten tech law to not install anything on your main drive if you can
Quick question, I have 54 Gig memory card installed in my Surface Pro 2. Can I use that as my recovery drive? If that is possible, will I be able to add files to it (the memory card that is going to be the recovery drive) later?thanks

think that is a great idea- and I am sure the recovery parition will be out on the torrents soon. But really Microsoft should be making some kind of solution available. And I don't want to incur their wrath by being the one to distribute their software.
since I can't seem to get my hands on a 128GB surface pro, I may have to settle for a 64. My question is can I install applications on the micro SD card to leave space free on the internal hard drive?

Is there any chance you can upload the files that you have on your flash drive that are used to recover the Surface Pro? ( I would then re-upload it on my domain, maybe have it on a cloud or something ) So that way there is no caution of losing the flash drive
Hi, i've made a mistake! I've used my 500 GB external HDD to make the recovery driver! Now i can see that the capacity of the HDD is 32gb not 500, how can i reset the drive?
I don't have the latest OSX version, but I will try with my 2-year-old version.

Thanks, but what's the point of freeing up the recovery partition if you can't merge it to you main one? No matter what you do, it won't merge to you C, it will stay an independent 7.8GB partition.
You can merge it if you use something like AOMEI partition assistant

If you remove these files, lets say put them on a flash drive, can you put them back? like sopy paste and copy paste?
Good question and I am not sure. Too bad he never responded to your question in 9 months thus far. The restoration partition might be able to be restored. The page file that would be backing up would be constantly changing I would think and thus a backup would be useless but may be able to be regenerated upon use or need. Windows has a way of sucking up any free space available on the drive for "optimization" reasons. I recommend storing your personal files elsewhere than the C partition. Give it enough space to have Windows have an extra cushion to expand to but expect that it may take over any unoccupied space on the C partition. Not sure if this is as true for Windows 10 as it has been for every other previous version of Windows. It has been a consistent Windows habit, and one of the many reasons why many people are not it's biggest fans.
i like the idea of gaining 14gb but id rather have the page and hibernate files and recovery partition left on the ssd. I worry that the 4gb ram may not be enough in the future. I like hibernation because it saves battery, which is particularly low. And i dont trust myself with keeping the recovery partition on a usb. Great and useful video, but not for me!
Hi there, thank you for showing people how to free up some space, but I was wondering. Could I copy the two files to a Flash Drive or will that not work?
Instead of going up in the corner, clicking search, then typing, you can just start typing from the home screen, and it will automatically take you to the search screen.

If you could possibly make such a video with a screen capture along with your audio commentary you would greatly increase the effectiveness of your lessons because people could actually see what your doing on the computer. In. this view (it may just be the computer I am using at the moment) but everything is small and too out of view of the camera to accurately see what your doing. Not that I couldn't just fallow by voice but seeing it would help and I would assume help many others with less experience. Thanks

Yes, the Surface Pro has a USB 3.0 port on the side. Since it runs the "normal" version of Windows 8.1, you can do and connect the same things you would with a laptop as usual.
