Seems like fault finding is becoming a black art only for the chosen few.
Well done Jimmy .
Well done Jimmy. We have to keep these older cars going. I will never buy anything new. EV’s? Forget it nothing but a wet dream.
That 407 looked (and sounded) like it was in great condition for a 2006, 165k miles. Giving the impression that it had been well looked after and that there's plenty more years and miles of faithful service left in it.
we have a 207 with the 1.6hdi and dpf, 143k miles (22k in the last year) and for a 17 year old daily abused car nothing has gone wrong apart from things we left too long like the release bearing squealing, other than that just servicing and it drives lovely tbf, pulls very well too with a stage 1 from hdi tuning
Well done to a man who takes pride in his job and makes sure his customer gets the service they are paying for!
The newer cars are too troublesome theses days!! keep the older ones going for as long as you can. And don't look to EV.s that's definitely not the future, the government have backtracked because the know full well the the infrastructure is not in place.
Great Vid "Thanks Jimmy" 😇👌
Agree 100% needless expense saved !dodgy garages take the piss all too often , see it all the time when they come to my garage, we'll done as always Jimmy 👍
Jimmy great job manufacturers should be taken to court way getting money from customers it's wrong keep up great work you do save people money 👍
It’s a pity not all mechanics are as honest as Jimmy.
Great video Jimmy , your knowledge is invaluable of emission control faults, experience is a must on these jobs , so many would as you say ,go down the replacement route and probably the car would be scrapped , it's a crazy world we live in , so many times this situation will occur with many "Timed " manufacturers reccomend replacement times , your the boss on DPF'S❤
That brought back a few memories. I had one of those 10yrs ago. It’s the executive model, it was all leather inside with everything electric , pano roof etc etc.
When it worked it was brilliant & as you say Jimmy, a superbly comfortable car.
What killed it was the multiple faults & the stupid fap system.
you jimmy and launch, could take ova the world 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Got caught by Peugeot on exactly that fault on my 407 - chopped it in and bought another car from them .... Things you learn afterwards. Thanks for your very informative videos keep up the great works. Cheers
The only reason why peugeot put things like that on there cars is because peugeots never break down.
If serviced regularly.
Best vehicles for reliability I think.
Great video 👍
Great point! These are pretty reliable
Hi Jimmy brilliant video, my 1.6 tdci focus 2010 as done over 160000 miles, I change the oil & filter every 4,500 miles/ air filter when required same with fuel filter, use premium Diesel fuel & then regular Diesel, every other tank full redex, & every month Diesel boost cleaner, & l make sure to give the car a good run occasionally if iam only doing short trips,
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻every town uk / ireland needs an O RILEY AUTOS 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
good good fair mechanics can really shine and make good money....
Excellent vids sir 💥
Great video and explanation. It is as you say the system killing the part. I own one of these and as you said they drive beautifully and are really comfortable.
The manufacturers are nothing but scammers.
I fixed a Mercedes the other day in 10 minutes with no parts needed. The dealer quoted £700 for the same job.
Thanks Jimmy 👍
Interesting video. I think I would have connected a manometer to the DPF to confirm the pressures actually are as reported by the ECU and that there really wasn't a problem with the DPF.
As a tech myself, I agree if you have no diag tool.
There cheap to buy and not restricted to any make and model.
It may be reasonable to give warning of a dpf replacement provided that the differential pressure sensor also agrees with diagnosis. Even then, it may still be worthwhile to perform a dpf clean to see if the pressure reduces.
Scandalous!! Well done, Jimmy!!!!
This is a predicted time period when the DPF is over ~80% ash based on mileage. The car may have had dpf maintenance/ clean previous to Jimmy seeing it - who knows. Worst case - wash out the DPF of ash, refit and reset .
brilliant vid again
brilliant thanks Jimmy
wow and omg amazing videos and fablous aswell keep it up.
Wise words from you thank you, you save me a lot of time at work on these cars its really appreciated. Just wish you would work on the psa group semi auto boxes as well 😂
Great video and explanation! Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Any part needs to have a set lifecycle and it may be, that DPFs are understood to not deal with emissions properly at roughly x miles - it may still pass pressure checks but it may be no longer catalysing pollutants.
My guess is the DPF is expected to be full of ash as opposed to soot after a certain mileage.
I would be interested to know if both soot and ash are flushed out in your process.
Thanks for your great videos.
Would removing the DPF and tapping out the ash work?
The ECU doesn't need to assume, it's got pressure sensors to read if it's blocked
@@Phantom-mk4kp Agreed the pressure sensor will show if the DPF is blocked but not if it is blocked with soot (which can be burnt off) or ash which can not and just continues to build up ???
Good question, does Launch fluid dissolve ash and soot?
Soot will wash out........ ash will/ may need a pressure wash to dislodge it .
The same problem exists in the home / business alarm industry - you program in when you want a fault to come - standard business when your slack !!!
I worked for a car company 30 years ago and back then they had bad transmission and they still do today,
Another company makes bad wire and fuses and starters
The Elevator repair man I know has a set up where he runs the same summer city's every year, So he plans his vacations around his work map, He sets the elevators to faily every september 1 to 5 so he fixed 30% this year then another set next year and the last set on the 3 year then he has some set on a 5 year plan. So when he comes here for his week of fishing he resets the timer on all the lifts on his sheet and makes $10,000 for his '' work '' and this is a set yearly income just from the apartments and hospitals and malls in my area, Then he moves onto the next city and the next So he works from May to September and then is of for the rest of the year,
Another amazing and informative video
Glad you enjoyed it
The Great DPF swindle LOL Joke aside, my take is that manfacturers are guilty of misleading their customers. I agree with those calling faul on the manufacturers, calling it planned obsolesence.
Question is. Would the dealers have charged him £2k for repairs but do the same as Jimmy?
probably
I think anyone having repairs done now should ask for the old part (if you want should mark it somehow). Its possible to wash the dpf and cut open if necessary to have a look?
How many current vehicles, are still going to be in regular use 20 years from today? I cant see ICE vehicles getting banned, but older and more reliable ones, will be legislated off the roads, and owners will need to look at a new vehicle every 5 years, which many cant afford obviously!
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Great video 👍
I'll be giving you a call to arrange bringing my Citroen Dispatch to you; I have exactly the same problem. P1445; I don't get any differential pressure readings, though I am using an app based reader...
What an absolute con by Peugeot. If this is the 2.0, it's the same engine that's in my 2007 Mondeo Mk4, which has just done 221,000 miles and is still on the original DPF, with a pressure reading of 2mbar at idle and aroind 30 at 3000 rpm. Perfectly fine. There's no need for this at all.
Thanks Jimmy for bringing this to light.
Does yours also use the eolyse fluid?
@homeistheearth nope. The mondeo uses a DPF without fluid. It relies on the engine being hot, by way of overfuelling to carry out its regens. Later ones, Euro5, have an injector known as a vaporiser which sprays diesel straight in to the DPF to burn it all off.
@@RikAindowok, yes my Citroen c4 gp with the 2.0 hdi also uses postinjections with the injectors and use the glowplugs to raise temp.
The eolyse is a fluid i think is some iron based toxic stuff, they claim it will get stuck in the dpf, so i actually changed it, but saved the old, as i could not find a clear answer if it could be cleaned. But the service time is 180000 km -
It’s my understanding that catalyst REE have a finite life and need to be replaced after “X” km/miles, if the DPF and CAT are combined or the DPF uses catalyst Rare Earth Elements then they will be depleted and the catalytic action is not taking place as it should.
Catalysts are not consumed by the reaction and remain unchanged after it. But they could well be damaged after spending their lives in such an inhospitable place....lol
Have you seen the universal dpf filters If you have got room to fit one in. Are they any good? Its unbelievable that the car manufacturers can do this its as bad as ths diesel emissions scandal when they progamed the car to produce less smoke when it stationary and being revd up for the mot. You can even see this in some cars if you rev them when you are driving and all the sutt is coming out the exhaust but when you are stationarity they dont produce any sutt
When you told the car it had a new dpf, did it also make you say its EOLYS tank was filled up?
Ah. It did.
I was going to say, Peugeot I bought this year had its eolys tank pump fail because someone had told the computer the tank was refilled when it wasn't. Pump ran dry and eventually failed. Pricey part.
It’s taking the control away from the customers, deliberately. Now if the economy was in good shape people wouldn’t be overly concerned with built in obsolescence as they would simply trade up. When money is tight cars have to be on the road longer. I have just had a problem on a car which ended with a falling out with the garage and a lost sale for them. I actually fixed it myself.
Bit like house alarm Installers setting faults at pre-determined dates.
I'm sure PSA cars chuck one at 190,000km. Search mapping for values 😏. Astra J 1.7CDTI, no faults, live data perfect. Always wanting to regen after same sort of mileage. Coincidence 🤷
I fail to understand why people choose spending 10s of thousands of pounds on a new car because there's a fault with their old car that requires fixing and they figure the value of an old car that makes it not worth doing. On a new car depreciation alone is going to cost WAY more than most repairs. And that's before you're paying off the finance.
Wonder if you take off 1000 miles and check pressures and warning messages
Remember to put milage as it was back
That 1.6 engine is in lot different cars
Just not this one... it's a DW10, 1997cc. :)
Mini do the exact same.
Even if you beat the planned obsolescence, Khan'll get ya
Can you not be fixing that fuel cap retainer Jimmy??
😊
Whats an acceptable millibar reading at idle and 3-4000k rpm ? To just reset and tell it it’s had dpf replaced
Under 10mbar at idle and under 80mbar at 3000rpm
This is planned obsolescence. No doubt. A DPF in a car that does 120k of city kilometers and a lot of idling will definitely have a much harder life than the DPF in a car that is mainly driven at highway speeds. So, relating DPF life to the total driven distance, is a malicious act of the manufacturer. The DPF will stop to regenerate and kill itself, while it could possibly still outlast other critical parts.
Why do manufacturers do this? They did not do it for the engine timing components. They could easily limit engine RPM to 2500 when the timing belt reaches its end of life date, so you wouldn't destroy your engine.
Well, it's YOUR engine that self-destructs when the timing belt fails. No harm done. You'll get another car.
When the DPF is supposed to be not effective anymore, it is the environment that suffers and the environment must be protected at all cost.
It's environment protection laws doing this.
Used to work for Peugeot !! Bunch a cowboys !!
You caught out the scamming manufacturers! 👌🫡
Where you based Jim?
👍
👌👌👌
I’ve never got why only the french motors do that. I’ve never seen them codes on fords with the same engines
I wondered how long it would be b4 the girl at the end got scratched
my 2017 maserati v6d when you have it serviced, you can reset the service mileage and date but wont reset oil viscosity counter and the oil service required message which means the DPF wont regen as oil viscosity counter outs eml light on, only 7 dealers in the uk so hard to get repaired, dont buy maserati
Pretty sure I can reset that
that would be great which area are you in as im based in county durham@@ORileysAutos
100%
❤🎉😊
well if i get a dpf code, it's limp mode to bedford.
Scam thanks for highlighting this
I wonder if you could make a small hole through the DPF, so that it still shows enough pressure drop across it and the ECU will think that it's working properly?
Deffo a scam. Good man yerself. 👌
The reason this happens is PSA vehicles use a wet DPF setup that injects eolys fluid into the fuel tank everytime fuel is added to the tank, eolys is essentially cerium oxide which allows a much cleaner combustion and lower temperatures for regeneration, unfortunately one of the side effects of using eolys is over time it does reduce the effectiveness of the DPF and eventually it will no longer be effective in stopping soot emission, this is why the car states its full of additive, now resetting the ECU to tell it thats it been replaced will work fine but the issue with this is its still going to be full of ash and due to the wear on the precious metals from the eolys additive it wont be as effective and will end up getting saturated more often and will regenerate more often, in turn contaminating the oil and increased wear on the engine, how bad this will be who knows, this fix does work but may have risks attached
The pressure is zero at idle so there is no ash build up to cause an issue
@ORileysAutos there will be ash to some extent after 160,000 miles, just not enough to cause a pressure difference
15 secs in.... Let me guess.... 120k on the clock?
A pure cod
Scammin maunfacturers
These Pugs had defective suspension from new. They brought out a fix but wouldn’t replace faulty units on existing cars. Put me off Pugs for life
They did and older types were replaced with the newer version. So far on 220k miles with original suspension, as mine was built after the issue was noticed. So no idea what you are on about!
@@khalidacosta7133it was the whole front strut that was redesigned and the dealer wouldn’t replace mine. I replace the joint only, and got shot of the car
Just delete 😁
Nice job, nice car
