Rich people give because they have too much ....... Poor people give because they know how it feels to be hungry and have nothing to eat

The Filipinos are rich in their generosity. Giving food is not strange to Filipinos because have always shared food to neighbors. In that one time in the pandemic thought that sharing our food to the whole community and it only one woman's gesture of generosity to start the nation to share.

Philippine citizen are very generous even if they didn't have enough money they will surely give to those people who really needs it. Because we believe that it's better to give than to receive 💯💗Proud Filipino here

The spirit of the community pantry is Get what you need and Give what you can. So it's not really about giving to the poor, but helping people who are in need. There were families there that couldn't afford to go out for groceries for some reasons. Maybe when the mother is gone, no one will look after the kids and other reasons. Since the community pantry is within reach, they don't have to go too far away for supplies.

a few traits of Filipinos: they know how to recieve and to give. it's actually easy to give but to swallow our pride and receive from others is actually more difficult. receiving teaches humility and is the foundation if giving because once in your life you experienced how it is to received.

Just earlier today, our neighbor knocked at our gate carrying a tub of assorted food to share with us. This happens frequently, especially in the provinces and even before the concept of a community pantry. The community pantry made this Filipino tradition of sharing food go larger in scale and made the shared food available and known to others who are much more in need.
It is not strictly "for the poor" however, so if you have a community pantry near you and you see a lot of food. I encourage you to take some, instead of letting it spoil. Really, there's no shame in it. Just don't forget to share your food too if you have plenty.

Community pantry is just based on honesty, getting what you need. While it may true that some may try to abuse it, but when you are there and see that there are others in line who need it more, I guess your conscience and your humanity will be stronger and would make you get what you only need.

In other countries they just throw away their fuits, etc. Community pantry is donating your spare food, soap, shampoo etc. So that others can take only what they want. You don't need to be rich. You even can donate only 1kilo of rice, etc.

It works because there are a lot of poor people and a lot of generous people. There are those that take advantage. It is human i guess. But it is tempered by guilt and the sheer number of those that are actually in need. The line for food is unbelievably long sometimes it takes hours. And they only take what they need to eat for the day. There are those that line up as early as 4am. Thats what desperation looks like. These pantries became a ray of hope to get them by the day. There are those that used to work for high end hotels that suddenly lost their jobs. Small businesses were shot down. Some business sectors had been closed for more than a year at that point. Those that were supposed to be self sustaining suddenly found themselves hungry, frustrated and hopeless. This was a way to help keep them afloat. As they worry about their bills at least they have something to eat. Thats why even the provincess put together their harvests to send to the highly populated cities. Everyone fears dying hungry here and no one wants to see others suffer it at all.

Our Elementary Batch did this community pantry also and we helped a lot of people with no work. We share money , went to grocery to buy good and sacks of rice. Then we packed it individually. We put signs that this is our project pantry sharing. People fall in line and pick what they like plus gave them kilos of rice, bananas, sweet potatoes and veggies. And can goods.
Our classmates from abroad donated money and we all put it in our Community Pantry. Sharing is caring that is one Filipino character that we are proud of. We all volunteer in packing and we feel great about it. ❤️❤️❤️

Please don't worry if who gets what...here in the Philippines we have our own system to see to it that help reached the most needy. We are use to disasters...as you know every year we are debastated by so many typhoons and people lost properties and unfortunately also lost loved ones. So helping others is not difficult for us. It's like our second nature even we dont have much but we are trained to give from the little we have. Please be inspired and help also others who are really in need. If you ask us filipinos how we see people regardless of race, culture or language or religions...many times we just see everyone as our "unknown brothers and sisters".! That's why for us to help is not difficult if we see them in dire need.

I think its just normal to majorities of Filipinos to be hospitable, kind, and generous. Here in Philippines there's no much foreigners you can see or meet everyday. When I first go abroad in Qatar, I learned that other nationals do not have the attitude that I have or we have. When I was young, I always smile and say hi to foreigners that I encountered and even talk to them. When I was in Qatar, when I smiled to a person most of them do not smile back, they just stared at me. I was ashamed and ask why, then I learned from other Filipinos at work that they are not like us. From there I learned to not do what I used to do (to be welcoming), I totally changed my attitude but it's not easy to change because it is not really who I am. Then, I realized and admit that I am just a worker here, nothing else. It was against my heart. It's unfair that while I was so welcoming back home, I was not given the same respect when I go to other countries.

The Philippine community pantry is free for all. It's not about who's rich and who's poor. You see the tricycle driver who gave back food? Obviously he is a poor guy. And mostly who contribute food to the pantry is not rich. Essence of this program is the "will to help." You are not oblige to give or to give back, but the food is free for all. The food is not for the poor but for everyone. That's why no one abuses the system because there are no malice on the objective. There's a warm-hearted feeling in this program that touches every one who got involved and inspired others to give more.

one reason why there are community pantries around is that we don't get sufficient help from the government itself. Since we are in lockdown and many of us lost our jobs we can't just wait for the help that we don't have any assurance of getting. By having community pantries like this, we can get what we need and we can share what we can share.

@@deliciousdelight7847 that's good for Japan. There are plenty of jobs a Japanese could struggle with no matter how difficult and stressful it could be because of well-paid salaries. In this pandemic times, i dont think it is necessary to be too critical when it comes to giving out help, just think that there's a lot of people who lost their job and cannot afford to buy basic necessities. Most of the people will take only a few portion, is not like they hoard a bunch of food and re-sell. Most Filipinos do not think negatively of others but will shame you on social media if you become too greedy so that's the repercussion should you take advantage of this community pantry. Only the thick skin would deliberately hoard food.

Fil dont expect you foreigners to understand our culture of social consciousness, meaning, no matter what our stations in life is, we are ppl. who embody the Christian spirit of sharing, of looking after our less fortunate brothers, of being selfless for the common good, even without asking for anything in return. This is bcuz we believe in what Christ said, " what you do to your brothers, you do it to Me." This means loving our neighbors (or the poor) by doing good acts is like loving God Himself.

Try to act like a beggar in Ph. Sing a song even to homeless people in the Philippines, +80% of them will give you money (coins especially) and others will give you some foods. So many social experiments tried it.
It's in the hearts of the people. Not in a super smart, crafty, cunning, tricky, social brains of people.
Only those same kind of people knows their true feelings or sincerity of doing it, not just by some negative super brainy judgemental bystanders who didn't even do a single effort to contribute to those who are needed especially in these covid times. 😎

There's a lot of community pantry in the Phils. This was originally and have been consistently done by the Phils. military. The lady that was featured here is not the originator. Be careful of what you believe in. This lady was exposed by the govt. to be a member of the communist group in the country, asking contributions worldwide, getting a lot of money from it and giving little. Whre's the rest of the money contributed? I leave it up to you. There's plenty of legit community pantry across the country. She's just one and featured by the mainstream media. Why her? Take your guess.
