People saying he's doing old material: You do know how shows like this work yeah? Its not a hotbed of new material being tested out, its BBC1 Saturday evening stand up. People dont want to see a circuit comic try out 10 mins of potentially un-ready new stuff, and neither do the BBC commissioning eds. They book people to come on and perform their best 5 or best 10 from the last 6 months/year and so on. Robins has been given 5 mins to make an impression on mainstream TV, and more then likely been asked to bring stuff thats tried and tested to work. Who cares if it relates to things that happened a year ago? They formed the basis of an award winning show.
And yet none of the other comedians who are doing 5-10 minutes of the material from their last year's show are painful to watch. Comics can (and do) do old material and it's still funny. This is just not funny. Therefore, he needs to write new material.
Nonsense. Firstly, this isn't even old material. He did some warm up gigs, but effectively this is part of his August Edinburgh Fringe show (Which won best show of the whole festival), and he's not even touring the show until this month through April across Britain. This material is 4 months old and is his current touring one, so it's not old. Secondly, to win the award mentioned above means your show has to be funny. It's OK to not like it, but your opinion is subjective and not representative. He audiences at Edinburgh loved it. You've come on here to whine, and called him a whiner. Also, Sara Pascoes show is basically about the same thing. I do agree that shows like this don't do his act great justice, because the show is an in depth 1 hour journey, and this is a 5 minute highlight reel that cheapens the act, but that's the nature of live at the Apollo, not the fault of the comedian. Anyway, stop posting Kass you are an idiot
Literally never seen this guy before, this was absolutely fucking smashing though, I really like how absolutely brutally honest this was, ya boy wrote an entire routine about his ex and padded it with nothing but ironic Christmas jokes. Crowd loved it too, not sure what the comments are all about, if this comes across as plain sad or pathetic or whatever the humor is entirely lost on you. Not everyone's coping mechanism is that funny. Try putting yours on stage.
Absolutely love John Robins. Look up his 'shame well' pods. Discovered him on Taskmaster. That's worth watching as well. So brilliantly competitive. Too bright is john, went to Oxford university from a state school, think he's still a DJ on bbc radio 5? Hope he's happy.
'Time to move on', 'let it go'??? You guys do know that this is his current standup show right? The one he won the show of the year with? He's not still doing this stuff because he hasn't moved on yet...
I looked for his work assuming that I'd like him, but I'm just appalled by this. Using funny voices or shouting things doesn't make the material funny. There's no wit in this -- no originality, no wryness, no irony, no taking-the-piss. Nothing exquisitely observed, nothing that makes me see life through his unique lens. Just pain. It's not art, it's not theatre, it's not comedy.
You've no idea why she left him, and thinking he could turn his grief into some material is not a crime. I've never heard of him until now but that's a load of shit.
I absolutely love John Robins, but this was excruciating to watch...again. He was doing this material when I saw him live months ago. Definitely time to move on John!
What a complete whiner! Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know you guys are saying this is part of his act that won awards, but lordy lordy I have no idea why. It's not funny. It's just pathetic. Much like Miles Jupp's new act where all he does is complain about his 5 children under the age of three or something. I suppose it means people can relate to his pain, but it's not funny. What's he going to do when he has to write new material?
Kass McGann With respect, it's not funny to YOU. I found Miles Jupp's performance about his kids quite funny. I don't expect other people to like it just because I did. You shouldn't expect other people to dislike it just because you do.

Kass McGann that’s a matter of opinion

spot on
Of COURSE he walks on to Queen 😂
How is he not more famous/on TV? Brilliant comedian.
Love this - comedy should make you uncomfortable at times, totally worth it.
Steven How's this make you feel uncomfortable? There's much worse then this around.
Umm... primarily, comedy should make you laugh, not wince.

Not sure "dialling as the door slammed" got quite the appreciation is deserved.

TheLucvD Hammer Legend 👑
How you win show of the year with material that gets more sympathy than laughs, I'll never understand.
It's absolute garbage either way
I saw this show last night. It's fantastic. See the whole thing before making your comments, this is 5:55 of a 1 hour show!
I looked for his work assuming that I'd like him, but I'm just appalled by this. Using funny voices or shouting things doesn't make the material funny. This is tremendous.
Sad he & Sara didn't make it.
Yeah...but John's much funnier when he's single.
Classic Robins
you had me at hello-ho-ho
Wish I could see the whole show!
I thought I didn't like his stand up but this was rly good
Hello ho ho happy Christmas
Oh John. 😢
He is funny. Prefer the radio show but I like this too.
he and Sara pascoe say guys in the same tone
Whoa !
There's something about him that reminds me of Daniel Sloss.
I assume the ex is sara pascoe?
Yes, the very one.
fuck me lee macks lost weight
cynical inclusion of emotional heft
Someone is on e-mail
1:23 into this and I can see why Sara left him. Good for her.
You've no idea why she left him, and thinking he could turn his grief into some material is not a crime. I've never heard of him until now but that's a load of shit.
themightysven Yeah, must have been hard for her being the shitter comedian. #griefisliving
themightysven yeah... maybe you should find out more about her
This is tragic.
Jesus this is sad
Not you He won an award at Edinburgh with this. Not sure how to ne honest
You see who he tied with?
Terrible
I absolutely love John Robins, but this was excruciating to watch...again. He was doing this material when I saw him live months ago. Definitely time to move on John!
It's pretty normal to still be touring the same material within that timeframe?
They don't come out with a fresh routine for every performance.
Get some material.
Joke is funny for the first couple of minutes...but you cant drag it out so long dude...please stop
Dude let it go.
Someone has obviously redefined the meaning of comedian. This prat is as funny as a broken egg.
This is appalling.
Absolutely. It's not even delivered well.
He's trying too hard to be controversial.
He didn't me me laugh... he's cringy
I tell you what isn't funny. Your stand-up. Just watched your videos. Now that's pathetic and painful!
Kass McGann With respect, it's not funny to YOU. I found Miles Jupp's performance about his kids quite funny. I don't expect other people to like it just because I did. You shouldn't expect other people to dislike it just because you do.
Kass McGann write new material obviously 🙄
Just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean they’re not funny
painful but im sticking it out out of morbid curiosity since they showed up as a couple on mock the week and made me give a shit
