- A stir bar is a laboratory device that lets you stir a solution automatically. Stir bars are used in scientific laboratories every day! In this video, Glorianna Tarlton explains how scientists used a stir bar to develop a method of detecting land mines using bioluminescent bacteria! Glorianna also outlines pro-tips on how to actually use a stir bar in the lab.
