    Excellent advice! Best idea is to simplify. Traveling, not running away from home, I tell my students and friends. Bring only essentals. Lock up vitals. Don't "show off": vanity is expensive and targeted. Blend, don't exhibit. You are awesome! Keep this up! Love and cheers! 👍👍💗💗😘😘🇬🇧

    A friend had his wallet stolen in South Africa a few days ago - luckily, he still had enough cash for the taxi back to the airport, since he kept a reserve of local cash hidden somewhere else! Paris is apparently particularly bad for this (every single member of a group from Houston had their pockets picked at least once on one visit some years ago; my brother found an unwanted hand in his pocket there too). A horrible experience at any time, but particularly if you're in a foreign country at the time!

      Hey James, yeah that does suck! It's sorta common anywhere you go though (even in your home country) if you're hanging out in the most touristy areas. Another reason why I encourage everyone to get away from the crowded tourist areas, and to also try to dress more like a Londoner so you aren't so obviously a tourist.

      I noticed that in Paris as well. I went during July this year and it was SO CROWDED. For my visit, the louve was the worst spot for people trying to get money from you.

    I went to Europe and Spain this past summer. My wife and I did not have any trouble in London, Paris or even Barcelona with pickpockets since we tried to blend in with the locals. In London, my wife and I even got mistaken for locals so mission accomplished.
    You hear people say Barcelona is the number 1 place in the world for pickpockets, that may be true but as long as you aren't waving your money around and being very obvious where your money is, you should be fine.

      Hey Daniel, you do need to be extra careful in Barcelona, they're very sneaky there, especially at clubs... this is again where the "only bring what you need" rule is very important! Even my local friends there say to be extra diligent. But I would never not go because of that, I love Barcelona to bits, need to get back there soon! :D

    I never use the lockers. I keep my passport, cards and money in an under clothing money belt so it can't get stolen

      Yeah hotel staff might steal them

      @Michael CMIELEWSKI They never tried to rob me and even if they did, because it's under my clothes unless they attack me or something, they would not be able to get anything

    Really excited for our trip coming up on Oct. 22! We will only be in London for 3 days, as well as Paris for 3 days and Davos, Switzerland 3 days! Your videos are fabulous and have opened my eyes to things I would not have even thought about otherwise...just purchased a Travelon bag to carry while shopping and touring...found it online! :)

    I have back pain so I can’t really use a side bag, if I use a backpack where the zips are hidden, I guess being super aware is key.

    Another thing is to always make copys of your documents. Its good to have on hand for authorities. That way if you do encounter a not so honest officer or what have you. You still have your orginals safe.

    All really great advice, I'll watch again before my trip, but what's the final word on "passports in London"? Do I walk around with it, or leave it in hotel safe? Thx!

      Hi Roger, people always vary in their opinion on this but I recommend leaving it in the safe.

      I never trust hotel safes. Bring a padlock and put valuables in the suitcase and lock it up. Get two keys. Keep one on your person (on a chain aroud your neck, on keys,in pouch ect) and keep another somewhere where cleaners won't look (empty butter container in fridge, taped to the underside of a table/drawer). If you get pick pocketed/loose the one on your person, you always have the backup one spare!

    Hi Jess. Firstly great channel very informative! Thanks :) Secondly I have a question: could you please suggest hostels/cheap accommodation options for students coming for internships to London for a month or more

    I'm doing a permanent move and will have to stay in hostels or air b&b rooms for a while, till I find an apartment. This is something I'm very worried about.

      Me too. I’m looking at hostels as an option coz im planning a month long stay and everyone’s been telling me to take the thefts that happen into account. Anyone have a solution for this?

    • @tinabraxton4906

      @@misbahfazalbhoy8607 Stay at a hostel with lockers and bring your own lock. That's what I did. It worked fine.

    Thanks for the info! How common is theft while visiting London? My gf and I are planning to sight-see during the day, but won't be doing much at all during the evening other than maybe dinner.

      I did find (after commenting) your other video "Is London safe?". That taken in account, if there i anything else you can recommend, that would be great!

    • @loveandlondon
      @loveandlondon  6 лет назад +1

      It's not terribly common but it can happen if you're not being careful. I've never had anything stolen from me and sometimes people sit in the underground stations with their laptops on their laps, working! :)

    How about you are travelling without companion inside the plane , when you need to go to the bathroom ? I always carry my IDs and money with me , we never know who the person by your side is .

    I am travelling to London from Canada in October and I am finding it quite costly to store my luggage for a day before I check into my hotel. Can you offer any suggestions?

    • @loveandlondon
      @loveandlondon  6 лет назад +1

      Will your hotel not let you leave it there before you check in? Most have luggage storage.
