We have the goomi bushes about eight feet tall we bought from Raintree with more berries thank we can use! It makes wonderful juice, a light pink and the tartness is less noticeable. I didn't know the pits were edible. Our most labor in taking care of them is picking!
I have Eleagnus around my home. They grow wild here. They bloom around Christmas and I am picking them now in January. I am very enthusiastic of the health benefits.
One of my favorites. I bought a whip from Raintree five or six years ago and it's huge. I get my fill and then the local robins know exactly when the berries ripen and they disappear overnight.
They aren't so much sour as astringent. My favorite preparation is to make a shrub out of them with apple cider vinegar and honey. Makes a lovely pink drink to add to sparkling water. @@dncviorel
Hello. Can you please tell us *which* of the cultivars are the larger plants and which the more compact ones? I couldn't find this in Raintree's goumi growing guide. Many thanks.
Thanks for the info! I’ve been wanting to plant a few of these to build a hedge & a visual barrier between my orchard & a roadway. What variety or cultivar would you recommend for a 6-8’ edible wall?
Would you have any advice for me growing from seed? I ordered seed online and it should be here soon. I started a few goji from seed and so far so good.
I've just discovered these growing wild with some oak trees. They are heavily shaded but have fruit on them. They have little stems out of the end of them. Do I wait for the stems to fall off before harvest? I picked one and it was really juicy. They are deep red with silver specs all over.
whoa i am new to nut trees. i have two chestnut trees in 10 gallon pots. when i tried to fertilize them with my healthy fruit trees the last two years they became really sad. this year I'm not feeding them at all and they are healthy. I'm surprised the are heavy feeders...
You say that the Goumi can be planted around nut trees. Does that include walnut trees too, that tend to put out toxins around fruit trees that are close to it?
Yes they can. Juglone, the "toxin" you refer to, is significantly overhyped, is not toxic or poisonous to people or animals, and doesn't really do anything but prevent seed germination of plants that may compete with the walnut.
@@RaintreeNursery thank you! Do you know if the Carmine cultivar would be okay to grow in zone 9A? I'm concerned we might be too hot in the summer for it.
Ok, for all those watching, goumis are NOT delicious. I dont know why people keep saying this. They're edible, got lots of good vitamins. But they taste bad. Theyre not terrible, but they are not good.
You must be thinking of its wild cousin the Autumn Olive. That's a different species still sometimes incorrectly referred to as "Goumi" and it's far less sweet with a lot more astringency.
You are getting it mixed up with Goji Berry. Even the computer does that. Goumi is delicious and even autumn olive has its own sweet tarts candy flavor when ripened fully. Goji us horrible period but supposed to be healthy.

Aren't too sour? Do you eat them with pleasure?

@@LittleKi1 Oh, I see, very interesting. I'm going to plant 2 or 3 plants in the autumn, just for curiosity. Thank you!
Great video

I got one of those neighbors, from he11. I welcome the birds to eat... and enjoy the hedge row. Love it! Lol

When will they be available for purchase again?
Hello madam, is it possble to grow this goumi fruit in Kenya, Africa?
Will it grow in hot hot humid Florida?
I don't know about this variety (multiflora) but umbellata is known to be very adaptable to any conditions. Definitely give it a try, if interested.
thanks for the videos... when there is a break in the speakers voice the music volume increases a bit too much

Where can I buy online?
Are Goumis sweet or tart. Would kids like them and will they grow in zone 4?
Both! Kids love them and they are hardy in zones 4-9.
Are these ever in stock?
I had learn German….

@@RaintreeNurseryagreed! I grow all kinds of things under and near black walnuts.
Excuse if i tell you that your hair is more beautiful than fruit Goumi

Maybe you haven't had improved varieties? Modern Goumi berries are sweeter with softer and smaller seeds than the wild variety.
