    That one you are saying is Red Gem has to be miss marked, that one has to be Tillamook. Red Gem is supper small.
    Do you sell Tillamook plants?

    Leave on the tree until "dead ripe", basically over ripe, and there will be no astringency or dry taste

      I agree, thanks for the tip! Netting for birds may be needed if the berries hang that long.

      @@PHNurserywe net ours very early on, after the pollinators are done. Not pretty, but it works!

    What variety is it? Just ordered two Carmine from Burnt Ridge Nursery. And probably will be grafting one of them to Pippi (the largest goumi berry).

    How far south will they fruit?

    • @PHNursery
      @PHNursery  5 месяцев назад

      Very far south apparently. I've seen them in the Gulf area grown as ornamentals.

      I grow them in New Orleans, zone 9b. They have fruited reliably the last 3 years, although I prune them
      heavily for chop n drop and nitrogen release, so fruit is not my goal. They did just fine the summer of 2023, which was the hottest and driest summer on record . Really wonderful, on my list of highly recommended plants.

    what makes them non invasive compared to autumn olive? Seems like they're very tough and with so many fruits/seeds it would be easy for them to spread. Also they can be grafted to autumn olive right?

    • @PHNursery
      @PHNursery  2 года назад +2

      For some reason they just don't seem to spread like autumn olives do. Seed viability? Maybe the larger pits are not consumed by birds like small autumn olive seed are, and thus not easily spread? I"m not sure exactly. But other growers who have been growing them for many years say they are non-invasive in their experience as well. They can be grafted to autumn olive, yes.

    Do birds like them too?

    • @PHNursery
      @PHNursery  6 месяцев назад

      Yes, birds will eat the berries. Robins and probably waxwings, likely others also.

    What is the flavor and size of the Sweet Scarlett TM Goumi Berry, how does it compare to the Red Gem you showed in the video? Also are you going to have the Red Gem for sale later this year? Thanks

      Hello, Flavor is similar but Red Gem is much larger and more luscious. We hope to have both available this summer 2024. peacefulheritage.com/shop/organic/sweet-scarlett-tm-goumi-berry/

    Do you know the nutritional value? How does this fruit grow in hot climates?

    • @PHNursery
      @PHNursery  6 месяцев назад

      I would imagine it will not thrive in hot climates, as it is a fruit of colder temperate regions. It needs winter chill time, but not sure how much. Goumi berries are high in vitamin A and E, minerals, flavonoids and proteins. Their lycopene content is extremely high.
      The fruits and seeds of Goumi are a good source of essential fatty acids
