There's a lot of great writing here. As a mother of three grown children and as a recovering alcoholic and addict, I absolutely feel for the main character. Her pain is dealt with in a realistic and respectful way. That being said, I also deeply dislike the main character, but that's a matter of taste. I went from dislike to despise when a woman who lived and suffered an alcoholic spouse and nearly lost her son to an overdose leaves a bottle of wine as a gift at the end of the book. The main character was, in spite of her genuine concern for her sons, extremely self centered and myopic, but the level of tone deaf she has to be to gift alcohol to an unknown person is painful. This woman needs Al-Anon and CODA in a big way. She's always so nice and caring in a way that's all about her and what she thinks should fix a situation. That's ok, characters shouldn't be perfect, but I found this woman profoundly unlikeable. Even so, I listened to the end. The writing is very compelling. (I'm a writer too)

That's really interesting that you felt that way. Most listeners and readers really like Holly and identify with her. That's what is so great about books, everyone brings their own stuff to them and it hits different. Thanks for listening and your kind words in spite of your feelings. Appreciate the message!
