Thank you Mark. from my heart. You are really serving the community and your personality is very easy to connect to. It's still unbelievable we can have access to all these info for FREE, especially in countries like where I live, affording high end schools is really not an option.
LOVE your channel and your documentaries. 💯 ... About the mattebox, I thought the basecamp would only take custom polar pro filters? Which Promist filter do you use? Thanks already in advance!! 🙏🏼
Started a file I call “Bone Up”. Am 73 with broadcast journalism BG. Living vicariously through you, Pete and Matti and others. I particularly benefit from your YT stuff. Love it! I didn’t think about the LAV trick, but that makes sense. On the other hand, I thought I was the only one who loves to use one lens for most of shoot! It’s usually a 35mm for me.
keep the the documentary tips coming. very much appreciated thank you, loving your guides on this topic. gl on the new project and as always stay strong!
Gimbal was my essential thing since i started to shoot short films without any equipments in need of mainly to shoot dolly shots without shake... This would really improve my short films #gimmedatgimbal
Dang it- I thought I was over my list for the Sigma 35mm...and then this video happened. Truly great advice though about sticking to one lens as long as you can.
Hey Mark, love your videos! But you mentioned using fog filters and pro mist filters in the Basecamp; however, I own one and it doesn't seem to accept regular 4x5.65 filters, only Polar Pro brand. Can you let me know what other filters work in it bc I would love to find more cinematic filters for the basecamp
Handheld and tripod. That really works on documentaries. I've been having problems with my Ronin SC2 since I can't get much out of it compared to handheld shots and using tripods for interviews while working on documentaries.
What are the specs (link?) for the SmallHD mounting setup you use on your FX9? Is that a smallrig ball joint setup? It looks very similar but different.
Hey Mark, what third party filter do you use for the Basecamp? I am looking for a mist filter but thought the Polarpro system only allowed proprietary glass? Do you have any recommendations?
Love this man. About to start shooting my first doc. All your videos have been super helpful to me. Looking forward to applying the lessons! Peace, Ben.
Hey Mark, thank you for all the valuable information you provide even outside of the AOD course here on YT. Your uploads are something I always look forward too. Now #gimmedatgimbal cos it will help me with my own creative journey. Cheers!
Hey Mark, can you do a video around what it means to work with a broadcaster? Meaning why you would want to do that, pros, cons etc. How you go about approaching them. Also, you mentioned securing a contract for an interesting story; what does that mean?
Mark, you said that 24mm + 15mm is all you need for entire movie. I have a several good primes, but the widest i have is 24mm. Do you recommend to add something wider to my set? Like 15mm? Do you think it's nessasery to have super wide lens?
So great to see you back Mark! I play your videos while making my coffee in the morning and LOVE all your tips. Buckets of gratitude brother. And I’ll follow you on Instagram! The only other celebrity I follow on IG is Tommy Lee. HA! #gimmedatgimbal
Mark at it again with the helpful content! I'd say most if not all of these tips are just great general advice for any sort of filmmaking, not just documentary. #gimmedatgimbal
#GimmeDatTopHandle ;) Man I'm so excited to see all these docs go live! Getting the inside scoop on 'em is already incredibly rewarding, but still I can't wait to see the final products :)
Been getting more and more into video since I finally got a decent camera and have been realizing how much I need a gimbal for shoots, especially quick turnaround client work #gimmedatgimbal ⚡️
Love your point about lenses! I’m still starting out and I intentionally only bought 2 lenses. 50mm and 16mm for my apsc cropped body camera (Sony a6400) The limitations have actually made things easier. It really helps to keep one lens on for a long time before switching. Now I just need to stabilize it. #gimmedatgimbal
as i am entering my second year of mediaschool that gimball would come in handy! #gimmedatgimbal ! PS love your work my dude! thank you for being a teacher for so many people online!
@@markbone I mostly shot with a prime lense and get so caught up in the details. These videos have been a big help on a doc im starting following someone on there journey to the heavey bare knuckle boxing world champion. If he stay on the path he's on it might happen as soon as a few months. This tips go a long way. Thanks for the effort Mark
As you sit the FX9 on the railing, with your right hand holding a different camera, and pat the Sony with your left hand... I realized, "What does Mark do for insurance on his gear?" Seriously, how do you insure your gear and how much do you pay for insurance? (Also, good to hear that Sony unlocked 24p for the FX9! I was never a fan of Sony's color style, but their recent changes are getting me more interested...) Great tips!
#gimmedatgimbal I've been getting into filmmaking and a gimbal would seriously help me out... Gimbal aside, love your channel, you've taught me a lot. Keep it up!

the audio tip is 100% accurate..a flawless video can be ruined by poor audio and WAY too many people are focused on good image buying the best cameras on the market but cheap out on microphones..(they also ruin videos with awful music but that's a whole another story).
