As part of mental health awareness week I hope that we were able to shed a light on the link between money and mental health and what you can do to reduce stress and anxiety when it comes to money. If anyone you know needs help with debt these are the organisations that Norma mentioned: - National Debt Line - StepChange - MoneyHelper She also mentioned breathing space which is a government scheme designed to give you time to receive debt advice and find a solution to sort out debt issues.
I pay off my bills first, put a big chunk in my savings second, and the rest is spending money. That way I’m not affected by mindless swiping so much. I can’t spend what I don’t have in that account. She is giving a lot of wisdom and financial council from a Christian perspective. I admire her qualities.
That property analogy is spot on - I drive a very ordinary car that is 9 years old, but I own rentals. I can’t live in my car, I much rather spend my money on things of value and worth. Absolutely buy a nice car, but if it’s at the expense of robbing your future, then that’s just stupid…
Thanks for sharing what you do in your day to day, it's a good way for people to learn and better their understanding! Completely agree it's about setting yourself up in a way where you have more assets than liabilities. Thanks for tuning into this episode
Thank you Norma! Really insightful and also in awe on how she made sure her children went on those holidays despite her circumstances at the time! Her children are blessed to have her - great episode!
Wow, I got a bit emotional hearing Norma speak about helping people at the end, there’s so much we can learn from our parents and grandparents’ generation about community building and supporting where we can ❤
I NEVER heard any one connect mental health like this and finances. This is amazing information that would make a whoooooolllllleeeeee lot of sene. Thank you so much Norma.
📝lymbic system - gratification part Pre frontal cortex - logical part The more you exercise one part the more you get used to it! Is it a need or a want ?! Good question
Love Norma, reminds me of my childhood and I am very money savvy because of my up bringing - Jamacian background. Nothing went to waste. Norma is so honest and stright to the point.
What an amazing podcast! Money is absolutely everything. Money is a tokenised storage of your time and energy. Even a £1 coin that you hold in your hand (provided you worked for it)is a manifestation of your skills, experience, energy, workload, knowledge, all stored into this simple metal object. Now a few more of these coins combined and invested will grow and grow. When I die, I will live through my kids and my money in the form of investments. My legacy to my kids is my portfolio of assets, equities etc. I can’t take my money to the grave but I shall live on through my money.
I really loved Norma and her insights. I came across this video as I recently found out my husband is £100k in debt. He's the complete opposite to me as I save/invest around 55% of my net monthly income and have built up a nice nest egg for pension age (I definitely have a "struggle to spend": scarcity mindset). His sisters and I are now helping him pay off his credit cards. It has been stressful!
Really glad you enjoyed this episode with Norma! Oh wow sorry to hear about the £100k debt and hopefully he can pay it off with you and his sisters help. Honestly we're not taught anything about personal finance so people can very easily get into that situation. I do hear you on the scarcity mindset, it's definitely difficult to overcome especially if you build really good saving habits, you can start to feel guilty for spending your savings. Honestly it's all a balance. A really good episode I did on money mindset and archetypes is with Natalie, that was an amazing episode. it's called "Money Mindset expert: these habits are stopping you from building wealth"
Norma insights into the psychology of money and how our upbringing influences our financial decisions are truly enlightening! 🧠 One effective strategy everyone can adopt is to periodically review personal spending habits, which helps in identifying and curbing impulsive purchases, fostering a healthier relationship with money.
Beautiful. I stumbled upon this at the perfect time. You guys are amazing. I consider myself exactly like this amazing lady. As a british citizen of Kenyan origin, I can relate. I consider myself amazing with finances too.
📝Tips for Budgeting mindset - a budget is like a picture of your mind - a budget is like a road map! - having a budget keeps you in control of your money - not having a budget keeps you anxious. - budgets let you see where everything is going and how.
Great podcast and so much respect to this lady. This advice is great to start but once you start understanding how money/currency is actually created, know what security instruments are, how powerful our energy and signature is then it's a total game changer and most will be shocked to realise how this game is actually played
Most people hear the word BUDGET and they completely tune out. They will say things like...I don't want to live like that! Sometimes you will tell them it's temporary and they don't hear the word TEMPORARY! Someone told me one time. I just want to live and spend my money the way I want to because tomorrow is not promised to me. Well, what if it is and you live to a ripe old age and you have no money because you spent it all in your youth? What will you do...live in your car? I personally live with spreadsheets. I fill in three spreadsheets every month. I can track every penny now and I love it. It's a little work but well worth it. Living frugally is not restrictive... it's freeing because you don't worry about money. 😊😊
Ahhhh bless this woman, her story sounds very similar to mine, same era and area, although I was the other side of vicky park in Hackney. Norma has it wrapped up, one of the best guests you've had on...well done.
Glad you enjoyed it and found it relatable to your story! It's crazy how many of us have similar experiences... Thanks for tuning into this episode I appreciate it!
Beautiful story I personally think schools and colleges should make money management be a must in teaching youngsters because most of them hasn't a clue how to handle their income
Thank you for sharing these great ideas. I do most of the things you talked about resonate with me. I'm grateful that I have the ability to plan and manage what I have. Glory be to God
Thank you for tuning in Deborah! Glad you enjoyed it! Yes debt really affects us all but talking about it means that people don't need to deal with it alone...Definitely I'm sure Norma would be happy if you booked in some time with her

Hi @savvywallet - this is my first time listening to your podcast. What episode would you recommend that I start from? I am generally into money management, investing in the stock market, and just all round good financial knowledge and would like to be well informed
Hey Charles welcome to the channel! I have a playlist called "take off with your finances" in that are all videos about finances. If you're looking for investing in the stock market then the episode I did with Andrew Craig title "No. 1 Finance Author: Do This To Become A Millionaire On A £25,000 Salary! | Andrew Craig" and the episode with Jacques covers this the most, that episode is titled: "INVESTING EXPERT: After 10 Years Investing, I Learnt THIS About Building Wealth! Jacques Opoku". Hope that helps
Thank you God for sending me to this channel! New Subscriber Here!🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿 Please Sir, address the older women and men as Ms. and Mr. They deserve the respect. Much Love❤❤❤
I am listening as a Muslim and I agree with a lot but I have to disagree with the interest elements. Maybe do a poll and see if it’s worth getting someone on that can advice on finances from an Islamic perspective. Someone like Ibraheem from IFG or tanim Zaman from sequoia homes. Keep up the good work. P.s I find people with a religious background are great with financial advise 🤷♂️

THIS💎👌🏽
SO GOD is Not FIRST?
There are many ways to count 10- right? I put away savings first, then bills, then divide the rest between long term goal and investment.
Excellent guest, shes speaking my language, clear and direct.
I'm glad that you enjoyed the episode! Thank you so much for tuning into the episode, we appreciate it!
And encouraging. She's great!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Your language is cool, I love her accent.
Not listening to the news is the best tip. I stopped doing that after covid. Best thing I did for myself.
Totally
You can listen and not follow. Learn what not to do.
I beg to differ. There are better things I can do with my time.
I will guarantee most people in financial trouble also don't listen to the news.
