Poor Queen Ena. You need to do a history video on her. From an assassination SM attempt on her wedding day to a blood stained wedding dress and her husband turning against her bc of hemophilia in her son and exile after the Spanish Civil war. So much tragedy.
I had no idea the Spanish royal house has so many tiara's. Some very unusual designs, most of which are beautiful. I just loved Queen Letizia's hair at Crown Princess Victoria's wedding. That softer look with that very pretty tiara really suited her. Thank you for the story.
Hi, Brittany. Francisco Franco didn't deposed the Spanish Monarchy. In 1931, Alfonso XIII renounced and run away bc the II Republic was voted, in part for his own behavior: a spoiled, coward and lazy brat who supported the Primo de Rivera's dictatorship in the 20's. He didn't lost the throne before thanks to his mother, deeply respected even for the republicans ("Republicans only hat off in front of God and the Queen Mother"), and his aunt Infanta Isabel, dearly nickname La Chata, The Short, who was beloved at that level, that the Republican Gov garanted her belongings and security if she want to stay in Spain, but her loyalty and family love was the most important for her, so she traveled very sick, only to die days later in Paris with her family. Francisco Franco, with a lot of others military higth ranks, started a coup in 1936. In his side where monarchists, national fascists, Italian and Germans militars, ultracatholic volunteers... His promise was to restore the SRF, but he hated Prince Juan, so he said he will to restored it if he could educated the heir. Later, he forced to Prince Juan to renounced to the throne to his son.
The Prussian tiara is a beautiful piece, and what an incredible history behind. It would be lovely that Princess Leonor wears this tiara when she marries 🥰
Great video! Love the fleur-de-lys tiara. It's gorgeous and regal --- but yeah, I think it suits Sofia better than Letizia, whose frame and bone structure are so delicate. On her I really like the floral tiara best, especially with that braided hair-style.
The Floral Tiara looks very similar to the Earl of Sandwich family tiara! The Viscountess Hitchingbrook puts it on in the Christmas special of “An American Aristocrat’s Guide to Great Estates.”
I love the Spanish collection! And it's so fascinating how the tiaras made the rounds. In addition it really shows how the different women can pull off different styles of tiaras and the clothing can also accentuate (or be accentuated) by the right tiara and woman and even hairstyle. This is surely an art form!
Thank you so much for moving away from the British Royal family for a little bit. I actually like some of the other Royal Houses' tiaras more. And the Spanish tiaras are absolutely stunning!!
This is great I absolutely loved hearing about the various Spanish tiaras, as well as the interesting fact about the one tiara being sold, and bought it back by the dictator. In watching the video you talked about how the queen wore the tiara to Princess of Sweden‘s wedding and it made me want to actually see the dress she wore with it. Perhaps in the future you might do royal wedding dresses for and attire for older weddings of different countries. Like the weddings of each of the current ruling monarch, since they’re all relatively young and more likely to have videos. Great job I love your channel you do a great job with it.
Great video! I love seeing the tiaras of a royal house featured like this. I’m especially looking forward to seeing the ones you do for the Dutch and Swedish collections. I think there is more to discover about the British RF’s tiara collection - it’s massive and there are some outliers and mysteries there.
There's so much plastic about her... almost nothing about her face and body today are original. Just compare the wedding and early marriage photos, it's quite easy to see that she's had a mother lode of work done.
I know this is a video about tiaras, but I just had to say that the rose-colored dress with white embroidery that Letizia had on at the 2:06 mark is drop-dead gorgeous. 😍🤩
The Niarchos Ruby Bandeau Tiara actually needs to be worn exactly the way it is. It is mounted on a red velvet headband now. Interestingly, Queen Sofia wore it once in a double row, meaning she added another, exactly the same band (riviere style) of rubies to it, all together worn without the velvet headband, which added much more height and, of course, value and sparkle to the whole thing. Then she had one riviere only mounted to the velvet base and worn it this way since.
My favorite tiara in the Spanish collection is the Prussian Tiara, I think when the time comes, It'll be a beautiful wedding tiara for Princess Leonor.
Queen Letizia looked so stunning in the navy/pearl gown. Personally I think Letizia looks elegant in all the tiaras she wears. Hard to pick a favorite.
So interesting about the dictator! Same happened in the former Yugoslavia where the post war dictator also appropriated all the royal family's possessions. People in power...😮
Franco did not appropriate royal possessions. In fact, as with the tiara here, he purchased back some things that the exiled royals had had to sell and then either gave them to the royals or held them in Spain for the restoration of the monarchy. Franco did not overthrow Alfonso XIII and send him into exile. It was those who established a republic who did that --- and then Franco overthrew the republic, supposedly to restore the monarchy. But .... as you say, "people in power." Mustn't rush this restoration thing! Have to make sure the nation is under control first! Took him almost 40 years and nearing death to make good on the promise. 🙄
Nobody overthrew the monarchy save for the people with democratic elections. There was no coup. Franco, in the other hand staged a coup which resulted in a 3 year long devastating civil war which he eventually won.
Love all the tiaras! We never get info on other royals over her in the US! Small suggestion- and maybe it’s regional, (I’m in Louisiana) but we don’t pronounce the “S” in Fleur de Lis. It’s pronounced “lee”.
Actually, the Ansorena Princess Fleur-de-Lys Tiara was purchased by now Queen Letizia, then Princess of Asturias, because Queen Sofia used most of the other tiaras and Letizia's options were limited. As she then became queen a little sooner than anticipated and gained command on the full range of the Spanish jewel collection, I now believe they keep the Ansorena Princess as a starter piece for the current Princess of Asturias, Leonor. That was the intention behind it, I believe. It might be a "Princess exclusive" thing.
The Spanish RF has a beautiful tiara collection It’s slightly surprising to me that there are no tiaras with coloured gems. (I don’t call that last ruby item on QSophia a tiara. It’s a necklace on a band - like how Diana wore a choker and then a necklace around her forehead, bandeau-style.)
🎉there were far more tiaras , but at the death of queen Ena, they were given some to her daughters , The turquese parure went to infanta count maria cristina marone. Thank you for this gorgeous video! I love learning about this subject! Just a litle note, King Felipe was Prince Felipe of Asturias before becoming King ( you said Infante but Infanta refers to the daughters of the King).
Infante is the title for sons of the king or ruling queen except the child who will succeed them on the throne, the only one to get the title of prince or princess.
Juan Carlos was a Prince. His grandfather Alfonso XIII was the last king of Spain before Fraco. His father was declared too liberal. Formal King Juan Carlos has a biography video that he narrates which is very informative regarding the early years & reign
Thank you for this, it was so enjoyable to watch. It's hard to choose a favorite but maybe I'm leaning towards the floral tiara! As for a mask with a tiara, it probably could have worked better if it wasn't your standard grade white mask. Look at the iconic photo of Princess Catherine with the black mask with her black hat and netting for Prince Philip's funeral. The mask actually added to the look. It wasn't with a tiara but I'll bet there would be a way to make a statement with a tiara as well!
Right Brittany, Stavros Niarchos was a Greek shipping magnet billionaire. (This kid must've been a grandson.) Niarchos' chief rival was the infamous Aristotle Onassis (2nd husband of President John F. Kennedy's widow, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.) Of that generation: Grace Kelly, or Princess de Monaco Graces's, beauty outshone even the sparkling tiara she was wearing. Grace really was the most stunningly beautiful Princess (ESPECIALLY American-born European Princess--you know who I mean), ever to 'grace' a Royal House. Pictures agree.
I haven’t been watching you very long, because I didn’t know about the channel, but I absolutely love your personality! I usually agree with your take on most things & I mostly agree with you about these tiaras, but I feel the 2nd to last tiara was delicate & lovely. True, not as grand, but the dress was very busy. Also, I’m going to be listening to you a lot, so I just want to let you know, in a kind way, you don’t pronounce the “s” at the end of fleur de lis… it’s fleur de lee… in French and means lily flower. The flower tiara was my favorite and the more grand fleur de lis.
Brittany - maybe sometime you could do a presentation of the men's jeweled neck pieces (i.e.Spain)? There is protocol for wearing tiaras, but what is protocol and significance of these pieces for men? *Or am I the only one who does not know, maybe?
The Fleur-de-Lys or La Buena Tiara. The Cartier Loop Tiara. The Cartier Diamond and Pearl (Scroll) Tiara. The Mellerio Shell Tiara. The Prussian Meander Tiara. The Spanish Floral Tiara. The Marichalar Greek Key Tiara. The Ansorena Princess Fleur-de-Lys Tiara. The Niarchos Ruby Bandeau Tiara.
I’ve noticed, not only with tiaras but with other diamond jewelry, that sometimes the setting around the diamonds looks almost black. It diminishes the appearance of the diamonds. In this video I saw it in the shell and the floral tiaras. Are the set in silver? Are they dirty? Why doesn’t anyone do anything about this?
Lovely Tiaras! I think the lady commenting on the tiaras spoke too fast, too long,, and seemed to think her opinion was more important than the information she was giving!
After so much research and editing it seems that pronouncing major words correctly would elevate the production. I’m thinking of “Buena.” Like Taco Bueno rather than boona.
@hennahannnah Yes, as a Spanish speaker, I noticed that one immediately, but there are many others words, in English, or widely used by English speakers, in which she transposes syllables or places the stress incorrectly. I used to think it was "stage fright" (the camera, time constraints, speaking without a script) but I'm beginning to think it isn't.
I am totally agreeing on the incorrect pronunciation in many of B's videos. That is not what pops into my mind when I hear in her introduction (main channel) "I provide compelling royal commentary"...
@@hennahannnah I believe Britney is a college graduate. I would expect that she has either heard the correct pronunciations or knows how to find the correct pronunciations when she is unsure.
