Nope!! The only times it gets gate checked is if the overhead bins won’t fit any sized roller bag. It happens very infrequently and only with older planes. It would affect you if you had the normal carry on as well, but again-that’s the exception more than the rule.

Every airline has different sized planes. For example, I can't bring the normal or bigger carry onto American Eagle flights in the states. Both are usually gate checked, because those American planes are tiny. I think the Medium will be perfect if you aren’t moving around a lot throughout your stay. It’s a pretty big bag, so the capacity is amazing, but it’s a little big if you’re changing locations and having to carry your bag up and down stairs!
You said you never had any trouble putting the Bigger Carry On in the overhead compartments, so does that include airlines like American, United, or Delta?

If you are just packing for yourself, I think the Medium will be plenty big! The Large is big enough to fit enough clothes for 2 people for a week or more, in my opinion. I think Medium is your best bet!
Hi! Thanks for the helpful video. Is the smaller carry on the one that you have to use for Euro travel? Because I know with the smaller/cheaper airlines they have very specific specs for your carry on. D.W.
I used the Bigger Carry On for past (and future!) Europe trips! The past couple of times I've gone, I was just taking direct flights to and from my location, and the Bigger Carry On hasn't been an issue. For my trip this summer, I ended up paying ~$180ish in bag fees for our flights between European countries, because their carry on limits are TINY (even smaller than the regular sized carry-on).
do you find having the carry on and bigger carry on suitcase redundant? i have the bigger carry on but want a little smaller size. i'm just not sure if it's worth spending the money.
I’d honestly say stick with your bigger carryon. I do give my regular carry on quite a bit of use, especially for 1-2 day trips, but honestly, you don’t need both and the Bigger Carry On is more versatile overall!!
Just got back from a 22 day trip to croatia and Sicily. All in a samsonite black label Richmond carry on. I’m now buying a bigger carry on with the outside leather pocket (in the colour of your medium) so exited
Around mid March! When I got my bigger carry on it came with international plug adapters for the suitcase’s charger. They may only include the eraser in the medium since it’s required to be checked!
I know this might be a year after 2019 but in 2021 in March for spring break I plan on going to Florida for 2 weeks what’s the best options for suitcases to get
Do you recommend the medium luggage for a college student moving somewhere? Or the larger carry one when u travel back and forth from college and home?
It depends on how much stuff you have, honestly! In college I would throw most things into my car, so I would say a medium should be fine assuming you keep some of your clothes on hangers. If you fold everything, the larger one may be better! But I think medium is more practical overall!
Thanks for this video! I found it very helpful! For the smaller airlines that you took around Greece, how did the bigger carry-on hold up? Did you have to check it and/or did you have to pay extra fees?
I JUST got back from my trip, and I actually filmed a whole video explaining when we had to check luggage, when we could carry it on, etc! You can watch that here -- I hope it's helpful! ruclips.net/video/0trAnYvHQIU/видео.html
Jason C honestly just get any packing cube. I got mine from Ebags like 5 years ago and still use them today. Brand doesn’t matter for this type of thing unless it’s designed differently lol
I honestly don’t use packing cubes! I tried them, and I just didn’t find that it was any more organized or helpful than when I don’t use them. I have the brand MyTagAlongs, but I agree with ohsobo in that you don’t have to have the fanciest version! If I could go back and buy some again, I would get some that are actually marketed as compression cubes. That would be the most beneficial!
I will be going to London, Paris, Pisa, Rome, Venice, Zurich, and Amsterdam this coming July for a 15 day trip. I will be getting an AWAY suitcase for my birthday in the next month. I would love to choose the Bigger Carry-On but I am afraid it of it being too bit. Do you think I will have an issue?
I honestly don't think so! With the bigger carry on, you will likely have to check it if you are flying while you are in Europe, but it will certainly fit in the overhead bin on your domestic flight that will leave the county.
Have you used your medium carry-on a lot? I’m thinking about buying one. I am going to have to check in a suitcase for our coming trip to Greece. We are flying SWISS and we are only allowed 17 pounds per carry-on. I am not sure if I want to commit to dragging a big piece of luggage throughout Greece.
I primarily use my Bigger Carry On, and I only turn to the medium sized suitcase when we were taking 1) direct flights to destinations where we 2) stay put for an extended period of time. When we went to Greece, we also went to Croatia, so we were moving around quite a bit! It was nice to have a carry on for lugging it through the stone streets; however, on the smaller planes that flew between Croatia and Greece, you had to check every size of rolling luggage. If you're not changing locations often while you're in Greece, I personally would pack in one checked luggage (the medium size) if you're going on a longer trip, since the carry on requirements seem strict on your particular flight with Swiss!
This is GREAT! And very helpful! I'm going to Europe for 15 days and I'm debating between the Medium and the Bigger Carry On. I initially thought the medium because I'll be there this month, so it'll be cooler. But I'll also be taking a lot of trains/buses and worry about the size. Do you have any suggestions?
I think you should honestly be fine with either! If you are doing a lot of moving around, it's always easier to travel with smaller luggage, so I would say get the Bigger Carry On rather than the Medium. But you do have a point with the weather! When you have to pack bulkier clothing, it tends to be harder to fit everything in a carry-on. On the whole, you'll be totally fine with either -- especially if you are primarily traveling by train and bus. You'll have no problem with buses, as luggage is typically stored underneath, but double check train allowances!
Hi! Great video. I was thinking of getting an Away luggage in Pink but I’m torn between getting the Bigger Carry On or the Medium one. I’ll be going to Disney World in May and I’ll be staying there for about 10 days. Which one do you recommend? Thanks in advance!
I think the Bigger Carry On is the most versatile overall, BUT if you're someone who doesn't mind checking a bag for every trip, then you can't go wrong with the medium.
Have you taken the trip you mention where you were taking smaller flights? I’m curious if the ran into problems with the larger carry on. I’m doing something similar in October and am really torn on what carry on to buy since I’m afraid of it being too large to carry on the smaller planes. Thanks.
I haven’t taken the trip yet, BUT I did do further research on luggage allowances for each flight we booked. We prepaid baggage fees for our bigger carry Ons for the shorter flights on smaller airlines. The only bags they allow in the cabin on those flights are backpacks, basically. SO I would advise going with the Bigger Carry On with a few extra inches of space, because you won’t be able to have either the Carry On or Bigger Carry On in the cabin with you, regardless. For long haul, larger planes the bigger carry on will fit in the overhead bins no problem!
I'm now (sadly) home from the adventure, and I filmed a whole video explaining when we got to carry on the suitcase, when we had to check, etc: ruclips.net/video/0trAnYvHQIU/видео.html I hope it's helpful for you if you still had questions!
Can you store these all inside each other? I know the bigger carry on will fit in the medium, but will the regular carry on fit inside the bigger? Nice review :)
I would have appreciated if you’d just told us how much weight can they hold. I’m in the process of buying one and I’m not sure which size should I take. The 20” or 24” or 29”? How much in pounds or kilograms can each one hold ?
That’s not really a known metric when shopping for luggage, at least in my experience. There are 50 pound limits for airplanes, so that’s usually a good guess. Typically capacity is the known metric, which for the bigger carry on (the most versatile size) is 47.9 liters.
@@MaggiesTwoCents Thank you! We have a limit of 50 pounds here as well. And we're allowed two bags 50 lbs each plus a small 22 pounds one to take with you on the plane.
Wait so is the bigger carry-on allowed to be carried on? I know it fits into the overhead compartment, but sometimes they will have you put it into the "luggage measurement" thing before TSA. Does this fit in there?
It fits in the luggage sizing thingy for Air Canada for sure. And in spirit and united. I would be careful for European airlines though (except Lufthansa and British which I also know works). The bigger carry pn luggage is about 0.5 inches more than what is permited in air canada in terms of height I think. But the sizing device doesn't account for such a small fluctuation.
Hi! I wanted to know if you recall how much your medium suitcase weighed when it was packed to capacity? Typically I’m limited to 50lbs for my checked bags and my current luggage is an XL. packed at capacity, is easily overweight, so I’m in the market for something smaller.
My most recent trip with my medium suitcase was 4 days Denver in the winter, and I was hauling a bunch of gifts with me. It weighed 35 pounds, which I was pleasantly surprised by!
Hi-how did the Coast color hold up given you had to check it? I'm looking at that color for the Bigger Carry-on which I will probably end up checking some of the time on domestic flights. Thanks!
So far so good! The outer shell will get scratched and scuffed a bit-there’s just no avoiding it because of the type of material that it is, but it holds up extremely well given all it goes through in the unknown bag sorting world!!
I am a bit confused! You mention that the "bigger carry on" (baby blue) is 21.7x13.7x9 but on the "carry on" (navy blue) you stated that is 21.7x13.7x9. They are exactly the same size. So which one is the bigger one of the lot? (of those 2)
It was great! You will have to check it on smaller regional airlines, but as long as you give yourself enough time it really isn’t too much of a hassle! Almost no rolling suitcases are allowed on on the smaller planes, so be sure you research your airline ahead of time!
I know this sounds dumb but i dont have enough brains to work this out- *so in march i think im going to Barcelona for 4 days i know when you pack bulky clothes it takes up space and vice versa i dont know if should get a the carry on or that light blue one which one would you recommend?*
Hey I’m not her but if you have bulky clothes that you’re planning to pack, you can get the vacuum seal Ziplock type of bag... that way, you can fit more. It did help for me when packing winter clothes. But if you can’t get any of them vacuum seal bags, just get the light blue one. Having a little more room is good in case you need to fill it on the way back. Have fun on your trip by the way :)
@@adeline6876 tbh i dont really care who replies back as long as they give me advice or instructions and thans for the help and I'll trt get the vacuum seal ziplock things thanks :)

We don’t leave until late June! We did do some bag research recently, though, and realized that the bigger carry on (in fact, hardly any carryons besides a small backpack) were required to be checked. We’ve prepaid those bag fees for Agean and Olympic Airlines, because you save money by paying for that up front rather than at the airport.
I recently posted a recap video of the whole trip that goes into great detail about our baggage allowances, when we got to roll it on, when we had to check our luggage, etc. I hope it's helpful!! ruclips.net/video/0trAnYvHQIU/видео.html
I now have the bigger carryon, the everywhere bag, and just delivered today was the medium. Now I’m in a quandary about whether it’s big enough. Have you decided that the medium is big enough for whatever you may do?
I honestly use smaller luggage more often than larger luggage, because I'm a nut about carrying things on to save time and simplify the process of traveling. I would consider the Bigger Carryon to be the most versatile. I think the medium is plenty big for any type of trip! In fact, I'm going to be packing for a 15 day trip in the bigger carry on to avoid super high fees overseas. The medium would be ideal for that long of a trip, but since we are moving around so much, I'm making some sacrifices! Hope this helps!
Beware that the measurements supplied in this review are identical for the first two pieces; the second one is actually 22.7” x 14.7” x 9.6”. Converting to cm: 57.6 x 37.3 x 24.4 it is 4.3cm over the115cm limit imposed by many carriers. Would they catch it - who knows, but airlines love to assess fees these days. I know for a fact that Singapore air will require the second one shown to be checked. The first one will qualify as carry on with virtually all airlines and, as she says it will fit into the overhead bins.
It totally depends on the actual plane versus a full airline! Definitely do your due diligence ahead of your trip to determine when a bigger carryon will be allowed and when it will need to be checked.

I've just purchased the Carry On and Large, thanks for the review :)
You're so welcome!!
do you find having the carry on and bigger carry on suitcase redundant? i have the bigger carry on but want a little smaller size. i'm just not sure if it's worth spending the money.
Yayayay!! I promise you will LOVE it!
I keep waiting for you to explain why a suitcase would have a battery.
Does the bigger carry on fit inside the medium for storage?
Super cool!! Thanks for all the great info☺️😉♥️
You’re quite welcome! Glad you enjoyed!
when did you order the medium? I ordered my bigger carry-on on the first of April and didn't get a magic eraser!
Around mid March! When I got my bigger carry on it came with international plug adapters for the suitcase’s charger. They may only include the eraser in the medium since it’s required to be checked!
I ordered my bigger carry-on on the 5th of April and a magic eraser was included
I know this might be a year after 2019 but in 2021 in March for spring break I plan on going to Florida for 2 weeks what’s the best options for suitcases to get
This video is the one for you!
Does the Bigger Carry On store inside the medium bag?
Yes!
Can you do the review for the The Expandable Bigger Carry-On
Sooo could you carry on a 24” suitcase
Hi! Will the bigger carry-on fit inside the medium size suitcase for storage purposes?
Yes!!
@@MaggiesTwoCents Thanks 😄
What I just got mine and I didn’t get a magic eraser 🧐
I didn’t get one either!
It must have been included for a certain time only -- sorry about that! The magic erasers from the store work the exact same!
If you could only get one of the away bags would you go with the medium or the bigger carry on? Thx!
The Bigger Carry On, without a doubt!
@@MaggiesTwoCents thanks!
You can watch that here -- I hope it's helpful! ruclips.net/video/0trAnYvHQIU/видео.html
do you use packing cubes? if so, which brand is good?
Hi Erica. How did it go with the bigger carry on? I am also planning to use it.
@@IamBlessed-xb9cj I have not gone on my trip yet. I leave from Halifax, NS Canada on July 6, 2019.
Do they fit into each other for storage?
Yes! They do!
Great Video! Does the bigger carry on fit inside the plane (like over head bin) ?
Most standard size planes, yes! If it doesn’t, they will let you know while boarding and will gate check it for you.
Qantus also approve the bigger Cary on
Came here because Away is having a huge sale so stock up!
Hopefully you snagged something great!
This was so helpful! I decided to get the bigger carry on 😁 very informative thank you !
Glad it was helpful! You're so welcome!!
@@MaggiesTwoCents Thank you!!!
Whew. $200+ huh? I need an Amazon dupe stat. Lol.
All luggages are expensive😟
Did they get rid of the light blue? cuz I can’t find it, what is the color called
I think they did discontinue Sky :(. My hope is that they bring it back in the summer!
Wish I can get that I love the blue one and rose gold color
Can you store these all inside each other? I know the bigger carry on will fit in the medium, but will the regular carry on fit inside the bigger? Nice review :)
Is the large suitable for 23kg packing or the medium size please
Has anyone used the bigger carry on on volaris??? I’m scared I’ll have issues
So do you think the 21" is large enough for a 2 day trip?
Most definitely! You can pack for 5 days easily in the smaller one.
Do they really hold up? Just received mine n they feel so fragiled.
2 years in and not a single issue! They definitely hold up!
9 times out of 10 it fits in the overhead bin!
It weighed 35 pounds, which I was pleasantly surprised by!
where the heck can i get the measurements and weights of these suitcases
Their website!
Can I carry 20 inch cabin bag in flight
I am a bit confused! You mention that the "bigger carry on" (baby blue) is 21.7x13.7x9 but on the "carry on" (navy blue) you stated that is 21.7x13.7x9. They are exactly the same size. So which one is the bigger one of the lot? (of those 2)
Oh weird, sorry! The bigger carry on is the bigger one.
If you're still wondering about the dimensions: 22.7” x 14.7” x 9.6”
How was traveling with the bigger carry-on for international travel while you were flying between the European countries?
It was great! You will have to check it on smaller regional airlines, but as long as you give yourself enough time it really isn’t too much of a hassle! Almost no rolling suitcases are allowed on on the smaller planes, so be sure you research your airline ahead of time!
Hi! Can size 24” inch pass as carry on?? Specially in delta airlines?
Very good question
Does the Bigger Carry On fit inside the Medium?
So what's size is the bigger carry on? The dimensions you showed in the video is wrong.
22.7” x 14.7” x 9.6”
I know this sounds dumb but i dont have enough brains to work this out-
*so in march i think im going to Barcelona for 4 days i know when you pack bulky clothes it takes up space and vice versa i dont know if should get a the carry on or that light blue one which one would you recommend?*
Can we get an update on your Greece trip? I'm flying United to London and hoping to carry on the Bigger Carry On. Did you run into trouble in that phase of your trip?? And what about going in between the European countries? I'm taking Aegaen and Volotea. Any idea if they'll let me carry on?? THANKS
@@MaggiesTwoCents Thanks for the input! But you had no trouble leaving from the US to European countries on the US legs? Thought you mentioned United.
Yes, I did you’re right! We flew United last year and had no issues. Usually the bigger planes are safe bets! You should be good for that leg.
I recently posted a recap video of the whole trip that goes into great detail about our baggage allowances, when we got to roll it on, when we had to check our luggage, etc. I hope it's helpful!! ruclips.net/video/0trAnYvHQIU/видео.html
Thanks for the advice! Does this discount code still work? I don't see any applied discount after clicking the link
Yes! You follow the link, create a profile, and check out. The discount will be applied at the payment screen. Hope this helps!
If I had a carry on luggage it always ends up being checked because its heavy
Where do you buy the stuff I wanted to buy
Bigger carry on can be takin in flight???
Such an informative video, thank you so much!
You are quite welcome! So glad to hear it helped you out!
Hi what is the link to the coupon code? I selected that link in the description and it didn’t work. Thanks for the wonderful review!!!
