Watching this after playing ratchet and Clank rift apart and can agree there are several instances in that game with where I thought sounds were coming from around me but it was just the game with headphones on
I love Playstation, Xbox and PC systems because they all have bring value and different experiences, but I will give PS5 a huge bonus: their Unreal Engine 5 demo running on a PS5 without the need for normal maps, at full res assets is incredible. The software integration with hardware is some of the best we have ever seen and it’s amazing it’s coming from the console market right now. So good props for them, they’re doing a great job across the board right now.
Them load times are gonna be nice. Games are gonna run on a new level. Cerny made virtual memory super dedicated. Huge worlds with massive detail will load in a blink of an eye. Will be interesting to see what developers can do with the hardware
I'm a PC gamer but i like to know how the consoles are evolving and the thing that made me smile in this presentation, was not the way the guy talked or that raytracing is coming, I could care less for it, audio was what made me smile, i'm 36 years old and I gamed at the time where PC audio was king, the time where A3D and Creative EAX, audio acceleration was in its peak, but when Microsoft killed 3D audio with Vista, because of Xbox with their "good enough audio for all" bs, audio in PC games after that became a shadow of what it once was, happy to see that it is being looked at again even if for consoles, my hope is that this translates to PC has well.

I think it’s because they didn’t want to pay the licensing fees to Dolby, which is totally fair. I think it will be really exciting to hook a new PS5 up to a surround sound system and utilize the new 3D audio. The changes in movie audio too over the years has been pretty incredible too.
People are all caught up on hardware and forget that Xbox didn't even release one new AAA hit Ip lastgen not even one. Just halo and gears over and over and over and over.
People don't realize that devs will optimize their games for the weakest consoles. It doesn't matter that the Xbox has better hardware because it'll just play PS5 games anyway. However, MS seems to be adamant in getting on players' good sides this gen. I would personally put my money on Xbox this gen even though the PS4 dominated the Xbox in the beginning of last gen.

This loading time & level design is BEAUTIFUL example of how working under constraints breeds creativity. I used to LOVE Doom / Quake / DN3D "secret rooms" and game layout instead of Predator 2 to Mass Effect "THIS WAY STUPID ->" signs.... and compare it to "phiuuuuuuuu---wizzzz" M1PRO and M1MAX presentation with very little tangible data.

Xbox won't ever hit 12tflops cause of all the bottlenecking the ps5 was made with no or very little bottlenecking. Hint why alot of games play better on ps5.
What a lot of people don't seem to understand is that the custom SSD's speed will allow the PS5 to use much more game data (meshes, textures, shaders) instantly, while the XBox Series X will still be bound to the old streaming strategies. I'd rather see more variety in my environment than more of the same stuff with a bit higher poly/texture res.
So a quick 2 year revisit. How much of this was gimmick/tech speak for sales? I have heard literally nothing about PS5s sound superiority, or anything innovative about it. Its controller rumble has gotten more noteriety than that. I have also seen the trend of people just buying SSDs for their systems, in fact Microsoft and Sony promote that. So is the built in SSD even that important? Modern SSDs will continue to innovate and be rapid as well.

I’ve been a PS fan for a long time, unfortunately I wasn’t able to Pre Order one this time around and had to grab an XBX. Maybe I’ll grab one down the line depending on games. What about Dolby Vision? I know XBX has it, will the PS5 have an update of some sort to support it?
i think it will be much of the same but the 3d sound solution seems to be a unique since they actually did some software development while making the LOU2 it has the best score from the community (differently abled) to be able to experience and complete the game.
What a superb and interesting presentation. Both Sony and MS next gen consoles are going to be game changers in many ways - great for the developer and consumer. I can see some PC gamers going over to consoles - it'll take high end PC systems (or RDNA 3 / RTX 40xx) to out perform these, and with Sony's custom IO-SSD and scheduler hardware giving such apparent advantages in game design/play, it's going to be extremely interesting times ahead. Ultimately, good for the consumer. Edit: as @Fallendice05 said below (and as a PC user myself) there are huge advantages in using keyboard and mouse, and yes, with a PC you will always have the opportunity to upgrade and at a rate faster than a console release cycle.
Two problems with PC gamers going to consoles is that in a year, PC will be again far out performing, and each year that gap will grow. The biggest issue though is the fact that PC gamer's want a keyboard and mouse. Controllers will never replace the accuracy and control of the good old keyboard and mouse.

I already own a PS1 PS2 I own two ps3s one of which is PS2 backwards compatible, I have a PS4 so to me I'm loving this coz I don't need backwards compatibility coz my game room is doing great. What I care about is the exclusives which we already know Sony are the best at. And as long as those exclusives are fast loading and look beautiful that's all I care about.

Nope, pc gamers are glad consoles are finally catching up so developers can focus on making amazing games for all 3 modern platforms. (Not counting switch because its hardware is really weak and probably won't too many 3rd party games compared to the other consoles and pc)
This presentation was obviously aimed at people who understand the tech ("Due to friggin' radical design decisions, the whole is way more than just the sum of the parts"), not at people who think higher numbers in a table means "DUH so must be better!". Keep an eye on Digital Foundry's assessment of the PS5 as they are usually spot on interpreting the real world implications of the tech used.

Both consoles offer very significant leaps compared to previous models. Good times ahead for developers and consumers. It's the proprietary tech that's going to be particularly interesting for PC users (Sony makes use of NVME gen 4 fully all the time compared to PC equivalents (low QD abysmal), and Sony's Geometry and Tempest engines look very interesting too).

As a owner of both I get what both are pushing for in their systems. And the DF article reiterates this vid because he quotes it and explains the same thing. What the article doesn’t do is state which system will offer the better experience. In truth it can’t. That’s up to the consumer. Sony will likely load faster, especially for its first party titles, and may require less disc space for its games, but will it pull off the same visuals Microsoft will? Who knows. What’s the better experience? Faster loads, better looking game (will we be able to see the difference) only time and the consumer will tell you what they want. In truth it does appear that Xbox has better overall power in every category but the SSD. The question is does the Sony SSD make up for it? I’m not sure. I’m telling you that you can’t be sure either because we haven’t seen a side by side comparison. I will still buy both. I win in the end for getting both and enjoying both companies.

@ TopGun Daddy I've absolutely no doubt that Sony will crush M$, again, just for the exclusives.. and as you said, cheaper price will just help. For the rest my understanding of PS5 hardware make me think the opposite of you, higher clock speeds usually mean higher thermal problems (and it's not like Sony can afford to again produce very noisy consoles..) and the last decades of développement all targeted more computing units as clock speeds of both cpu and gpu reached some limit point.. To me Sony indeed aimed at a 400$ price.. with the rumored 9.8 tflops and trying to bring something better with ssd (sorry but storage/ssd has near nothing do with raw 3D computing and rendering..) The delay and "last actions" rumored seems to me to be that : - Sony absolutely aimed at a 400$ console (with great power and price) - MS indeed came with an "all-in" console with more power for a higher price - In reaction Sony obtained to overclock that 9.8 Tflops Ps5 by overclocking both cpu and gpu.. late design changes which never are a good thing... And this make me worry quite a bit about ps5 thermal dissipation solution and noise.. I already own a PS1 PS2 I own two ps3s one of which is PS2 backwards compatible, I have a PS4 so to me I'm loving this coz I don't need backwards compatibility coz my game room is doing great. What I care about is the exclusives which we already know Sony are the best at. And as long as those exclusives are fast loading and look beautiful that's all I care about.

This presentation was obviously aimed at people who understand the tech ("Due to friggin' radical design decisions, the whole is way more than just the sum of the parts"), not at people who think higher numbers in a table means "DUH so must be better!".
Keep an eye on Digital Foundry's assessment of the PS5 as they are usually spot on interpreting the real world implications of the tech used.

It mirrors pretty much what we see in the video above. Once both consoles are released, together with a few cross-platform games, we'll get a better idea of the tech (and custom chips) used. Both consoles offer very significant leaps compared to previous models. Good times ahead for developers and consumers. It's the proprietary tech that's going to be particularly interesting for PC users (Sony makes use of NVME gen 4 fully all the time compared to PC equivalents (low QD abysmal), and Sony's Geometry and Tempest engines look very interesting too).

As a owner of both I get what both are pushing for in their systems. And the DF article reiterates this vid because he quotes it and explains the same thing. What the article doesn’t do is state which system will offer the better experience. In truth it can’t. That’s up to the consumer. Sony will likely load faster, especially for its first party titles, and may require less disc space for its games, but will it pull off the same visuals Microsoft will? Who knows. What’s the better experience? Faster loads, better looking game (will we be able to see the difference) only time and the consumer will tell you what they want. In truth it does appear that Xbox has better overall power in every category but the SSD. The question is does the Sony SSD make up for it? I’m not sure. I’m telling you that you can’t be sure either because we haven’t seen a side by side comparison. I will still buy both. I win in the end for getting both and enjoying both companies.

I'm really surprised that Sony can afford to release a weaker console !! They are the leaders since 4 generations! They crushed Xbox one.. thx in big part to a stronger hardware., and now what ?? That 10 % weaker GPU !?!!

I've absolutely no doubt that Sony will crush M$, again, just for the exclusives.. and as you said, cheaper price will just help.
For the rest my understanding of PS5 hardware make me think the opposite of you, higher clock speeds usually mean higher thermal problems (and it's not like Sony can afford to again produce very noisy consoles..) and the last decades of développement all targeted more computing units as clock speeds of both cpu and gpu reached some limit point..
To me Sony indeed aimed at a 400$ price.. with the rumored 9.8 tflops and trying to bring something better with ssd (sorry but storage/ssd has near nothing do with raw 3D computing and rendering..)
The delay and "last actions" rumored seems to me to be that :
- Sony absolutely aimed at a 400$ console (with great power and price)
- MS indeed came with an "all-in" console with more power for a higher price
- In reaction Sony obtained to overclock that 9.8 Tflops Ps5 by overclocking both cpu and gpu.. late design changes which never are a good thing...
And this make me worry quite a bit about ps5 thermal dissipation solution and noise..
But most important, to me :
- the Xbox will show better 3D performance (just a consequence of better and more expensive hardware)
- the ps5 will be the "king of load time"
But me would prefer Sony to have that 3D advantages instead of being "load time king"
Ps : and the PS5 pro rumor just make sense.. but the problem will of course be that the bar ps5 will determine the lower end performance.. but I would be very pleased if a Pro model comes to completely destroy any Xbox prétentions.. just imagine a 600$ ps5 pro .. hmm 😋

Me think Xbox will show some definitive raw 3D performance advantages, no hughe difference of course, but definitively sensible one, as far as 10% Fps on a multi-plateforme game whose editor will put the energy to use and optimize that 10% tflops advantage and more CUs..
You think that ssd and these frequencies advantages (despite many CU missing) can and will bring definitive advantages to the PS5..
Just keep our opinions and see what facts/history will show ok ? ^^
In anyway both are incredible hardware for the prices... and we for sure can't wait longer to play next-gen games isn't it ?? !!
And most important, we both know which plateform has 99% of the best exclusives ;) and which éditor is pure evil trying to scam everyone in every way (no gamers should forget nor forgive all these DRM scam M$ tried to impose us with the Xbox one launch..)
Just imagine Horizon 2, the next GOW, LoUS2, the next gran turismo, an even better ghost of tushima, a Ps5 remake of MGS would be pure heaven.. and so many many ones !! ^^
