This was the excuse for the massive waste dumped into United Launch Alliance’s over budget and very late system that after all has to be bailed out by who? SpaceX. This is exactly the argument of why startups are better at what they do than traditional defense contractors. SpaceX does it safer, faster, better and cheaper to boot. I went to Cape Canaveral in 2018. They had a mock up of the new Orion spacecraft. It looked like an Apollo holdover. The guide said that it would be ready for flight by 2020 and would go to the moon by 2024 and then to Mars. As far as I know that thing is still under construction.

This machine could potentially cause a fatality.
