Realistically though, they could probably get away with waiting for a long while if they felt like it.
@@theravinator1458 Well lets see here the switch is incredibly underpowered compared to the competition so when gen 9 consoles come out it will be near impossible to port games and it's even already getting to that point with mk 11 running poorly and even breath of the wild a launch title draining the battery way too fast. No amount of optimisation can get every game eve ron switch so that's less third party support just like another wii u situation, The controllers are 70 dollars but still drift and break easily so that's another major issue, internal storage space is a major issue with 32 gb as the only option, the kickstand is flimsy and poorly placed, and the lack of bluetooth headphone support is not a good thing.
@@bt3743 You need 8K Mario then? Why would they need to port gen 9 games when their main selling point is: Mario, Zelda, Pokemon etc.(in other words; console exclusives). The other points you made were a controller which has nothing to do with the system. Internal storage space is not an issue when you can easily buy a micro-SD card(in other words; NOT their problem). Also, a flimsy kickstand? Yep, thats a reason to design a whole new Switch for😂. Then the bluetooth thing is really only a problem for a select group of people. Main point i'm trying to make: 1. It still sells. 2. It's unique (portable console) 3. They've got great exclusives 4. The Switch is targeted towards kids(not professional gamers), even i have a Switch Xbox and a PS4 5. They JUST made a Switch Lite Why would you throw all of that out the window, just for some minor improvements. It's gonna sell regardless.
@@XXLRebel choosing to keep 32 gbs and force the customer to pay more for semi decent storage is anti consumer. The wii u also had mario zelda and pokemon games and we all know how that went. Yesit sells but so did the ds and wii but they still made consoles after those. Nintendo has an entire team dedicated towards console design. Do you really think they've been sitting on their asses for 4 years? No! they are as we speak working on whatever the next system is. Thats how product development works. The switch is a great system but it aint perfect. Console developers lose money on every single console when you factor in development costs, production, tax, shipping, Consoles are not profitable? You know how they actually make money? The games, and first party games can only get you so far, Nintendo games appeal to a relatively small audience compared to 3rd parties who can make far more games than 1 company ever could. But unlike Nintendo, 3rd parties prioritise tec specs more than anything so will thereofre make more physically demanding games and since the switch is significantly weaker compared to upcoming consoles then when 3rd parties move onto those systems then the switch will have basically no new 3rd party triple a games within a year or two. I feel like the Switch concept has an evergreen interest factor so long as they push the envelope in the power department, if they can keep surprising us with how much power they can fit into a handheld, whilst maintaining the battery the Switch revision has brought to the table they can most definitely go another gen with the same concept

Personally I would call the next Nintendo Switch the "Super Nintendo Switch" as a call back to the SNES. It almost has the same initials, just minus the E.
Sounds like a cool idea; although I think Nintendo Super Switch may roll of the tongue a bit better, and also keep people who already call the SNES the Super Nintendo from mixing them up at all. (We all know someone would.)
Honestly, Nintendo has created such a strong and reliable first-party library that they can realistically do *almost* anything they want, and people will buy the next console just to play the games.
Not me. The games have stayed the same since gamecube. I haven't played pokemon since black and white. Havent played Mario kart since the 3ds way back in the decade. Mario party you need friends and family. Havent played a 3d mario game since super Mario for ds. Not a huge fan of fire emblem. Never played I before tbh. Not going to. Donkey Kong and yoshi games are just the same games with better sprites. Its getting old now.
Smash bros too. Times are changing. Gaming is not the future. For the past couple of, decades it was, but now we are, starting to move out of it. There's nothing more to explore from games.
While it is a good possibility that they will work on their version of VR, I don't think they would switch (haha) to it fully. It is not accessible to a lot of people because of motion sickness and a few other hurtles. I would love to see their Virtual Man though.
I feel like the switch is already a ready made VR machine. With one of the headsets uses a mobile/tablet made for the switch, and then the joycons as motion control/controllers. It’s ready to go, and they could certainly do more with it than they are currently doing with labo.
I highly doubt that will be the case if switch 2 will be more powerful. If its more powerful it will consume more energy. So even if it will have better battery it probably still wont last longer.Remember that the old ass gameboy had the best battery life of all nintendo handhelds.
@@mattjackson2799 that's not necessarily true. Yes, being more powerful means draining more energy but when you are talking about electronics what really matters is energy dissipation. Chips can have many different architectures and physical properties. One of them is resistance. If your component has a high resistance that means you need more power to accomplish a certain task but if you can reduce that resistance then you need less energy and that's exactly what Nintendo did in the Switch's revision. The newer models are much more power efficient. That's why they have longer battery time.
Best Guess: The Super Switch with a 1080p screen that’s does 4K when it docks, power is comparable to the PS4 and XBOX one Also there’s a deluxe model with a VR headset :)
It's not enough. The current gen competition already smokes Nintendo on the graphical front, and VR. They've got to leverage gameplay, unique new hardware, and that monster IP library
Hunter Brittell Yeah probably if they wanna bank on getting ports from next gen consoles.. the difference between current switch and Xbox one is gonna be massively smaller than Xbox one and next gen consoles so there’s not a good chance of ports gonna be possible if they just make a Xbox one comparable switch which wouldn’t be that much more powerful than the current switch but I have no idea where that hardware is gonna come from. Current phones don’t match current base consoles in graphical power and the new tegra chips aren’t gonna cut it. We have to keep in mind that a hybrid console has to have a chipset that can be utilized as a handheld device because it’s essentially a handheld that powers to a tv. So that means we probably have to hope form some massively huge gains in mobile technology to reach ps4 pro level graphical power
Nvidias next Tegra chip will probably be at least 5 times faster than the one in the switch. Performance is not really important anymore, though. The hybrid model is the winning concept. Next step is making it smaller and thinner, like a phone, in fact I really hope Nintendo makes a phone, and competes with Android and Apple, but I really don't think they will.
Nintendo has no business playing around with new controller ideas when they can't even make sure freshly made joycons in 2019 aren't drifting and malfunctioning.
Yeah, that's probably the big selling point of more power and a better screen. Keep crazier motion control controllers for VR, where they'd actually be useful - with modern technology and games, they could easily have some Power Glove sort of thing except actually good.
Nintendo has a big emphasis on party games and the VR model would just do what the U platform did and segregate players into two camps which was never fun. That's why I always look at VR as a separate style of gaming, rather then the absolute future of the medium.
They should do an April Fools video and say something like: This is the Wii UU. The sequel to the WiiU. It's main gimmick is that the controller IS the TV. S just a Massive Gamepad
I actually would really like a sort of Nintendo 3DS HD, one that renders 3DS games at higher resolutions. Not necessarily saying that is the smartest option for nintendo, its more of a gaming necessity. Not only i really enjoy the "gimmick" of the two screens, but the DS and 3DS have a huuge library of games that are not so easily emulated in every place, unlike say... wii games. You pretty much need a hardware solution for lots of these, or at the very least to get an experience closer to the original. And as the years go by, it will be harder and harder to both buy the console and the physical games.
You can’t just make hardware that renders 3DS games at higher resolution. You’d need to remake and rerelease games for said hardware, and no way will they remake every 3DS game. Making a console dedicated to being able to play a select few 3DS games at a higher resolution wouldn’t sell well nor would it make sense on paper.
@@joj5150 Actually it doesn't need all that stuff. Just need a hardware that reads the cartridges and make a machine that renders the stuff on it on higher resolution. Of course the textures will look low resolution but it is what hardware running higher resolution without downloading new assets can do.
Aline Piroutek It would look awful, and definitely would not be optimised to run at that resolution. It would need a whole makeover, so yes while technically you could just upscale it, it would not look appropriate for release and definitely could not be considered a HD version of 3DS games.
I can tell you exactly what the "Switch 2" could use: A stylus I was genuinely disappointed when I found out I wouldn't be able to use programs like Photoshop or Autodesk on my Switch, not to mention, it would allow Nintendo to port a ton of DS / 3DS games
@@majkati69 Because the appeal of the Switch is having a system that's both a home and portable console. I would like to be able to draw things when I'm not sitting in front of my computer, and also have the convenience of multiple things on one device as opposed to owning a Switch for Nintendo games, and a separate device for drawing. I'm sure Adobe could streamline a version of Photoshop that would work on the Switch, even if they remove a few features. If not, Autodesk could likely port Sketchbook

@@fornkly Just refine the existing controller set up to make a super-resolution HD gyro, so you get PC point n click levels of speed, control and precision. Or just bring back the Nunchuck + remote and implement the same as above
A PC Gamer's perspective on what features a "Switch 2" should include: 1. Enough performance to run Wii, Gamecube, NDS, and 3DS emulators at full speed in HD resolutions in the form of the return of virtual console, and full Switch 1 backwards compatibility (yes, I know it's a lot to ask for, but I can do most of that on PC and the current Switch is almost there if you soft mod it.). 2. Proper online functionality (I don't really feel the need to elaborate on this). 3. (This one's a long shot, I know, but I'm going to say it anyway) High refresh rate support. A lot of smart phones are starting to get 90hz and 120hz displays and I don't see it as unreasonable for a dedicated gaming device to have this capability. Variable refresh rate would also be nice to make sure games always appear to be running smoothly, even if it's not locked at a stable frame rate (no stuttering ever). Pair this with the previously mentioned increased performance and backwards compatibility and it would enable games locked at 30 for the Switch 1 to run at 60 on the "2", and games that run at 60 on the Switch 1 to run at 90+ on the "2" for buttery smooth motion. More powerful hardware along side higher refresh rate capability would make the "Switch 2" the definitive way to play Switch 1 games, and when you add virtual console back into the library, it also makes it the definitive way to play basically every Nintendo title of all time. You would, also, of course, have access to any new titles they release specifically for the "Switch 2". Making an upgraded Switch with more performance and a better screen to boost the handheld experience as much as possible while keeping the controller as compatible as possible with older games could cover literally all bases. People that like retro games would get virtual console, people that like new games can play them at peak performance in handheld mode, people that like competitive games would get a wide variety of control schemes and decent online, and people that like all their games on one platform (like me) would get it in a portable form factor. The current Switch is so close to the perfect gaming device and in my opinion there are only a few minor changes necessary to get it there. The biggest challenge in my opinion is getting a powerful enough processing chip that's still backwards compatible inside a handheld device with reasonable battery life and without melting.
Nailed it. Graphics now are coming closer and closer to a point of diminishing returns, where certainly cartoony/painterly nintendo games would not see that big of a benefit from increased realism. What needs to be fixed now is the subpar 30 FPS experience that comes along with many switch games. And I even have hope for nintendo to do this since they seem to understand this problem more than other console manufacturers, as seen with their insistence that Mario Kart 8 run at a steady 60 FPS. With the next PS we'll see PC-like graphics locked at

This is my theory: "Mustard" is a condiment. Condiments are "accessories" to whatever consumable food item you are currently, well, consuming. Ergo, I hypothesise the future of video games will be "accessories" i.e. Hardware sold separately, DLC (an accessory to the "main" game), Season passes (an accessory to your purchase, find out what it is later), Online subscription services (a premium accessory to your gaming platform of choice); all the while the focus on the "main course" dwindles. Got to be honest, when I started writing this theory I didn't expect it to end up being so depressingly accurate @_@
I dont see them releasing a new platform anytime soon. They should milk this one for as long as they can get away with it. But that will depend on what games come out that people *want* on switch, that it wont be able to run.

Nintendo 64 analog stick wear is staring back at you. Seriously, Nintendo is no stranger to issues with controllers. They usually have at least a few that take a generation or so to fix.
I'm pretty sure you're being facetious but in case you aren't, that wasn't the point of that quote. The drift issue is a manufacturing one, not a design one. When it comes to controller design, Nintendo takes the cake, and not just because they've been doing it longer, but because they're not afraid to try new things.
@@EasyCure0 I agree for the most part but Sony also deserves a lot of credit for coming up with the Dualshock 1 controller in 1997 by taking the face buttons from the SNES controller, then adding dual grips, 4 shoulder buttons, two analog sticks and creating a timeless design which became the template for most controllers since then including the Xbox, Wii Classic, Switch Pro and even the Google Stadia controller. Plus they always add meaningful features each gen like the sixasis (gyro) on Dualshock 3 and the touchpad + the light bar on Dualshock which turned out to be essential for VR even if a bit gimmicky for regular games. Nintendo is certainly more experimental but what I like about PlayStation controlles is that they never remove features and innovations from previous gens and only add on top whereas Nintendo often abandons them and move on to a different thing.
I don't. 30 FPS for an action game just doesn't cut it, much less for an FPS game. Motion controls would be a plus, but they've taken a step back from the Wii in this regard.
11:50 Yup. The Kokiri Kid Awesome idea, is definitely possible, yet I don’t feel as though they’d go for something like that. I guess it would be something like a miniature Wii U? Cool idea though!
Slowly transforming the Switch with more DS elements would probably be the best idea they could do if they want to be unique. It would make it really easy to port DS and 3DS games too, which would appeal to both the core and casual crowd.
I can see a "Switch 2" with backward compability as it's starting hook. Give/sell the old one, get the more powerful one without worry as to finishing building your switch collection of games. Or...The crazy crazyness...The one and only "Virtual console". Like litterally, a VR hybrid system. Think about it, the wiimote was a good start but the precision that the joycons can achieve in Ring-Fit makes me think that having them in your hands and two "leg accessories" having only the tracking function in them (making them cheaper than buying a second pair of joycons just for that) would be close to rudimentary fullbody control. So, why not make an hybrid that's even more hybrid? You can play standard games, and use the console like a Switch (portable and TV modes) or you can dock it in a VR headset. The Quest gained traction so there's already something on the market to observe how the technology goes. A Console that does VR, but not only VR would be enough for most people to give it a chance. Just imagine it, VR with joycons instead of big controllers. Joycons that can be separated in their classic fashion or host a new accessory with 4 buttons for your fingers instead of just L/R, making them quite the controller in VR games that don't utilize classic mapping. And if you don't care about VR? Just don't buy the headset-dock and it's already a more powerful Switch. Don't buy the TV-dock and you just got a handled (base price model) at this point. Nintendo loves accessories, making the "Virtual console" you buy only the componnents you want so YOU tailor your gaming experience to your very needs would be quite the craze yet be straight-forward enough. *"It's virtually any kind of console you'd want, just pick an accessory and play!"*
Clearly this child is too young to remember the Atari Mustard and the Sega Coleslaw. There was a massive console war, lots of children were killed by one another, the companies pooled their resources to clean up the mess and to wipe out all traces of those consoles ever existing. Edit: This is totally the same guy, please disregard the comment above, I am a lunatic and don't know what I am talking about, I am also completely fine and have not been abducted from my home.
I think it will be the same concept with better specs. I use to dream up consoles and write them down when I was younger and the Wii U and Switch were both concepts that I imagined that became reality... A lot of people did actually. There's not much room left for innovation. Maybe VR? But I doubt it.
Haha, I did that too with my friends. Here’s the thing I worry about. If the Switch is the end game for Nintendo, that sounds kinda boring. Imagine if video games never advanced past 2D. I think a desire to innovate is very important.
@@CorporalCool647 Yeah, and now everyone can easily see, even for us non-tech savvy goofs. *sigh* once upon a time, apple meant reliability. now it's more like "The Emperor's New Clothes".
Apple has really played it well. Small design changes. No gimmicks (apart from the face tracking emojis) just more powerful hardware (processing. Power, better camera etc) Instead they have focused on improving the UX and ecosystem. I have always felt Apple and Nintendo shared this similar approach so I hope Nintendo do the same with switch. Just make it more powerful. Tighten controls. More compact. Better battery life. Easier game management. And also better companion apps (for iOS and Android) All this will keeping the 200-300 price point. And keep doing fun special controllers to keep in contact with physical stores (as games on switch will be more and more just digital download) and to keep reminding people.
I'd say that Nintendo needs to make a Switch 2. It already has handheld, home console, and VR capabilities in one decent package. The joy con can be attached to literally any accessory that Nintendo throws our way, and it's on track to being the best selling game console of all time (just give it a few more years and games)
My guess would be Switch VR (or AR) . Handheld with detachable joy cons, docker with motionsensor camera and improved graphics capabilities. It's mostly already there, but the small improvements and offering smooth change between all three modes would still be interesting, both to players and game developers. Making it AR (camera at the back) would actually be very Nintendo.
Pokemon Ketchup and Mustard Versions, located in an island chain near Unova and based on Coney Island. You spend the game wondering if your dad will arrive from Galar on the SS Anne in time for your 10th birthday, the antagonist team is trying to get control of the a New Jersey Devil themed legendary, and you have to save the region from a hurricane during the World's Fair.
That would defeat the purpose of combining their studios though. If a switch 2 remains a hybrid (and I think it should) then perhaps studios might still release switch versions for the first year or two, the way ps3 versions of games still came out during the PS4, because those games will still be developed with scalability in mind, since devs will have to take both portable and docked modes into account. eShop exclusives though... I can see them releasing some eShop only titles that run on both.

I think a good idea would be a merging of the 3DS and the Switch into something like the Switch DS. Unlike motion controls or a game pad the DS's two screens didn't intrude on gameplay much and it was easy for developers to just slap a menu on the bottom screen, call it innovative and we on the other end wouldn't mind one bit. Plenty would even say that it enhanced the experience. If Nintendo's looking to innovate next console this is the best thing I could come up with, a switch with 2 screens that acts as a DS Switch fusion. You know those keyboard slider phones? Well instead of a keyboard when you slide the screen up why not another screen, that will the base for the Switch DS. You could keep the screen slid down and it would behave like a normal switch (this is how backwards compatibility with the switch would work) but for the new Switch DS games you could slide the screen up and have 2 screens the top for gameplay the bottom for a map, menu or whatever. You could also include backwards compatibility with the 3ds and ds for the cheery on top. All of this plus a stronger battery, better graphics and souped-up joy-cons now with zero drift and a IR camera on both.
@@@raandomplayer8589 Good point actually, I imagine that it would have a dock you just set the Switch DS in like a normal switch and both screens would appear on TV. Of course you could alter the configuration of the screens in the main menu. Then you'd have a cursor for the bottom screen controlled by the gyro. Yeah its a bit unintuitive but I say it could work, and if not maybe a joy-con grip attachment that allows for bottom screen functionality. And if anyone has any other features or ideas they'd like to add on or take off I'd love to hear them.
Maaaan I've been saying the same thing since the Switch launched! The Nintendo Super Switch! It's not unlikely, considering the SNES is just that: a Super NES.
@Jack Wouldn't stop people dropping it in abbreviations though. People just so Switch, not Nintendo Switch. Second, given they were run by the Nazis I don't think adding N to the SS solves the issue
2150 - all small, personal electronics, watches, phones, tablets, game systems and their controllers are assimilated into a programmable morphing matter, taking the shape of whatever device you currently need. Companies give programmable matter product company right for the matter to morph into their product. Nintendo: Nah, you have to have a separate object for our games a hundred a fifty year old me: Wouldn't have it any other way
I personally would love to see a switch system that has a high enough pixel density so you can play VR games. You could slide the system into the back of a headset similar to the Samsung Gear and use the two joy-cons like any other VR remote. The system could also play games in portable mode or be docked like the original switch.

@@theravinator1458 I will say, it's probably going to be a *little* scary for them in 2020 when other 8th gen stuff comes around. If it weren't for the fact that they have the portable space cornered, they would be in a pickle.
They just picked an awkward time, not too dissimilar from the Wii U.
Main point i'm trying to make:
1. It still sells.
2. It's unique (portable console)
3. They've got great exclusives
4. The Switch is targeted towards kids(not professional gamers), even i have a Switch Xbox and a PS4
5. They JUST made a Switch Lite
Why would you throw all of that out the window, just for some minor improvements. It's gonna sell regardless.
@@XXLRebel choosing to keep 32 gbs and force the customer to pay more for semi decent storage is anti consumer. The wii u also had mario zelda and pokemon games and we all know how that went. The switch is not targeted towards kids, every switch commercial from launch had young adults and do you really think it took them much effort to make the switch lite? Hunter Brittell
We need to wait at least another 3 years for something to be equivalent to the one X and be at $400 or less.
One can dream
Nvidias next Tegra chip will probably be at least 5 times faster than the one in the switch. Performance is not really important anymore, though. The hybrid model is the winning concept. Next step is making it smaller and thinner, like a phone, in fact I really hope Nintendo makes a phone, and competes with Android and Apple, but I really don't think they will.

Nintendo has a big emphasis on party games and the VR model would just do what the U platform did and segregate players into two camps which was never fun. That's why I always look at VR as a separate style of gaming, rather then the absolute future of the medium.

DSA that can play gamboy advance games and 3DS games at a higher res and faster ram

A PC Gamer's perspective on what features a "Switch 2" should include:
Taco Toad if I could like something twice I would
With the next PS we'll see PC-like graphics locked at
What I am hearing is the successor should be named "Switch Melt"

Wow, Nintendo! That's such a great idea!
I feel like nintendo’s next console will be like a VR focused switch. Like it functions as a more powerful switch and the dock makes it even more powerful, but it also can be used as a competent VR headset because of its shape and better screen resolution. And the new joycons will be able to function like normal joycons but also be more VR focused. Also it would be cool if it came with a headset shaped thing that you slide the switch into

Good point
Nintendo is certainly more experimental but what I like about PlayStation controlles is that they never remove features and innovations from previous gens and only add on top whereas Nintendo often abandons them and move on to a different thing.

wow. Props for imagination

I feel like when the Switch’s successor comes out, they will still develop games for the Switch and treat it like a 3DS.
I don't think that we would see any Nintendo games then anymore. The situation with the 3DS was a very different one.
@@EasyCure0 The thing is that Switch games are already very hard on their limits because the switch has too little hardware power.
Omg, I want this now xD
You're onto something big here!

Good point actually, I imagine that it would have a dock you just set the Switch DS in like a normal switch and both screens would appear on TV.
