Also, he is responsible for suppressing the biggest secret about oil (which remains pretty well under wraps to this day), namely that oil is not a fossil fuel. Oil is literally manufactured by the mixture of hydrocarbons and other substances which are subjected to extreme heat and pressure within the depths of the Earth. This actually means that there is practically an endless supply of oil, something which the conglomerate of oil producers didn’t want to become common knowledge because they wouldn’t be able to justify constant price increases due to diminishing supply!
Oil is drilled and pumped from depths far deeper than the fossil remains of anything that has ever existed.

Yes, always thought partnering with railroads was a big key to his success. Up front he would sell oil cheaper than competitors, but got a kick back from the railroads. Video also skips the part about transitioning from lighting fuels to gasoline which at one time was a useless byproduct, kind of like the crud left over nowadays that goes into pavement or PetCoke. Rockefeller didn't have the monopoly on the National Guard interviewing in Bloody Mine Wars. 1921 Battle of Blair Mtn, WV was the largest uprising since the Civil War. Ironically, another New York Rockefeller would become the governor and state senator of WV.

The town where he was born boasts a small iron plaque amongst the hills & hollers of New York state's Southern Tier. There's not much expansive farmland near there, such as is pictured in the opening images of this video. Even so, the state road runs along an insignificant waterway, but who knows what productive farmland may have lain above and beyond.
Rockefeller seemingly never returned to improve his birthplace, and back when I would drive by Richford, more people still heated with wood than with oil.

First, I liked this video because the narrator has what seems to be a Scottish accent. That resonated with me because I watched a PBS documentary on Andrew Carnegie decades ago.
I have not been in awe of the rich snd famous - yet I find their stories fascinating and they give me a glimpse into human nature. Just watched a short video on J.D. Vance, current candidate for Vice President - and was reminded of J.D. Rockefeller's humble start in this video.
This videos thumbnail teased that Rockefeller's "dark secret" was someting he did. The man was a sinner as we all are - or have been. Still, the secret was the sins of his father. I'd done some research on the younger Rockefeller a few years ago - and vaguely recalled his dad giving him a loan. I didn't realize what an influence, "Devil Bill," was on his son - or that his son fought to overcome the shadows of his dad's dealings. Thank you!

When I was a kid reading the Guinness Book of World Records there was a story about some gal named Henrietta who was worth $95 million.
She was such a mizer her kid had to have his leg amputated because she wasted so much time looking for a FREE CLINIC.
Would love to see a production about that. G'day!

Whatever Rockefellers later monopolies, as a 6 yr old selling newspapers on the street he, reportedly gave a tenth to his Sunday School. When he was employed as a telegraph operator for the railroad. he said, He got his start in his career when he discovered that two trains were going to collide on the same track. He took immediate action to avoid this w out consulting his bosses. He later said, He found that the more he contributed to church tithes, the richer he became.

      exactly.
their stories never make sense, see jimi hendrix for example, he was trained as an airborne ranger and then discharged cuz he didn't want to be in the army anymore(total nonsense)
mark twain, somehow did not serve in the civil war, they say he joined a unit that disbanded for some reason and that was that(total nonsense)
elon musk, his story is he made millions off some map service he sold in the early days of the internet(as someone who was on the internet when, literally, there were no women, that is preposterous)
      it goes on and on...
and standard oil is still relevant - see the song last great american dynasty by taylor swift and then the marvel show agatha all along whose main character is named agatha harkness - Stephen Vanderburgh Harkness (November 18, 1818 - March 6, 1888) was an American businessman based in Cleveland, Ohio. He invested as a silent partner with John D. Rockefeller, Sr. in the founding of Standard Oil and served as a director of Standard Oil until his death.

🙄Their Jews, their name wasn't even originally "Rockefeller".
They were a Jewish-German immigrant family who bore the name " Steinhauer " BEFORE obtaining American citizenship.
Also shortly before immigrating to America, the Rockefeller family's name was Rockenfeller. The name originated from the village of Rockenfeld in the Rhineland, Germany, which was abandoned in the 1960s. The name is derived from the Middle High German words rocke meaning "rye" and feld meaning "open country".
