    I learned to shoot Trap with my Dad and Grandfather. The first time I tried Skeet I thought to myself, “why would anyone shoot trap over skeet”. I was hooked instantly. Then a friend invited me to go sporting clays shooting and everything changed lol.

    I have been shooting skeet for about 40 years twenty of them in the NSSA and I can’t find anything better to do and have as much fun with the family. Wish I could do more!! I am glad you finally did the video I asked for about sub gauge tubes . Also covering the World shoot was a great choice. Awesome job as usual!

    After a 25 year hiatus from skeet, I’m just now getting back into it. I shot competitive skeet in my 30s went to one world in Savanna, Georgia and after watching Wayne Maze and Todd Paxton put on a clinic I thought to myself how much do I have to shoot to get that good? In the end, I decided it wouldn’t be fun for my wife who wasn’t really into shooting to spend all over vacation time following me around, so I just stopped and bought a boat. Older now and Retired. I decided I’d give it another go. In about two or three years I hope to be good enough again to go to another worlds. Maybe I’ll see you there. Either way great video. It makes me keen again!

    Love the videos of the more traditional shooting soorts like skeet. I feel as if in the sporting clays mad shooting world of today, the traditional trap, skeet, DTL etc are dismissed by some as "too easy". They're only easy until you're on the last station with one shot to go to your first 25/50/100.
    Will we see Johnny at The Grand?

    Was American skeet really that different from English skeet to where you still considered this your first time? I know you said the targets were a bit faster in American skeet but I didn’t imagine the difference would be that big

    Johnny, Skeet is totally mental...My last World Skeet Shoot I broke 646/650...Talk about not having my head screwed on and totally engaged...I missed high 1 in the 12, 20, 410 and doubles...The only event I ran was the 28...There were several 650s so I didn't get a sniff...The shoot-off in 28 took 2 days to determine the winner...In those years the shoot-off was shot using the standard round of Skeet...The next year shoot-offs were doubles at stations 3,4 & 5...I shot a 10 pound 4 ounce Briley tubed Perrazi MT-6...I shot the 28 in all events except 410...As I've been telling you if you want to be successful in 410 it must feel exactly like the 12 that fits you and shoots most consistently...My 28 average was 99.8 and when I was shooting all 4 guns my 12 and 20 averages were lower than 28 thereby determining that I only shoot the 28 for 12, 20, 28 and doubles events...Jim at Longthorne could fit your 12 frame with sub bore barrels that balance exactly like your 12 or whatever O/U your shoot the best Briley or Kolar could fit you for tubes and my money is on you to win the British 410 Sporting Clay Championship...To get sub bore consistency the gun you shoot must feel and look exactly like your 12 bore ...I purchased a Kriegoff 32 years 4 barrel set and it was a beautiful gun but I couldn't hit an Angus bull in the ass at 21 yards so I opted for one of Perazzi's ugliest guns as what many called the Buck Rogers special a MT-6 with the stripes on the sides of the receiver...Lots of 100's and 400's with Briley tube set...Go win that 410 championship!

    Love the channel. I’ve only been shooting trap n skeet for a couple years. I’ve also only been in RSO a range safety officer for a couple years, I am 45. Ultimately I would like to get proficient enough that I could join a competition such as this. As an RSO though I just had to get in the comment section and mention a couple of things I see pretty consistently that really bothers me. The old habit of resting a double barrel shotgun on foot has always put me off, it goes against the basic rules of never pointing a gun anything you don’t want to destroy. The other thing that bugs me are the fingers on the triggers. I noticed you and People on your channel mount shotguns fingers on the trigger and even in this video earlier on, you’re literally noodling your trigger, I know these are just habits, but they’re bad habits. I realize they’re exclusive to shotguns and in particular double barrel shotguns they’re still bad habits.
    Just saying my trigger finger doesn’t touch a trigger until after I’ve said Paul and sometimes not until I’ve identify the target. They’re called safety rules for a reason not safety suggestions.

    • @johnwells8270
      @johnwells8270 День назад

      I understand where you’re coming from but from a competition standpoint, some of these guys break the target so fast that they don’t have their finger in the trigger when they call, it will delay the break which changes the lead and results in a miss. Plus it’s just one more variable that would need to be the same every time. As for the foot thing I personally don’t do it but at least with an over under you are looking into the barrels the whole time so nothing can physically be in the chambers. That aside, seriously consider trying a competition. You’re only really competing against people around your skill level from D class with an average in the 60s up to AAA which is around a 99 and you’ll find everyone more than willing to help if you ask. Either way I wish you the best in your shooting endeavors and as a friend of mine would say as long as you shoot your average or better, you did good and if you didn’t, we’ll the targets were awful anyways

      I think it’s about a 90 degree acr the machine moves so 45 left and 45 right from center. I mean I don’t disagree but I’ve also been shooting competition skeet since 09 so I’m a bit biased
