  • Jesus said, "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends."
This weekend, we remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to secure and preserve the freedoms we enjoy in America. They did so for their friends fighting along side them. They did so for their family and loved ones. They did so for their country. They also did so for those Americans who actually hate our country, those who burn and trample on our flag, those who are not worthy of the sacrifice they gave.
Take a moment to put yourself in their shoes. If you were a soldier in the continental army. Congress didn't have enough to pay you. You were under trained and under armed. You may not have even had shoes. Maybe you were one of those who marched through the snow with blankets wrapped around your feet and your feet bleeding. Under those circumstances, would you lay down your life for your friends?
If you were a US Soldier storming the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, would you volunteer to be one of the first soldiers to land on that beach, knowing that you would likely be shot and killed? Would you lay down your life to allow other soldiers may come behind you to take the beach and ultimately the continent of Europe? Under those circumstances, would you lay down your life for your friends?
Time and time again, the American soldier has done just that, laid down his life for his friends and even for those Americans who are not worthy of their sacrifice.
Similarly, Jesus laid down his life for us, not for those who were worthy of His sacrifice. Jesus dies for us while we were still sinners. He died for us while we were without strength to save ourselves. He died for us while we haters of God.

Abba Father, you know who and when to call a friend. I trust you with my life Abba Father. In the name and by the blood of Jesus Christ at the foot of the cross of Calvary, amen and hallelujah! Annelies Bakker, the Netherlands.
