- SCP-001 is a 001 proposal also known as The Way It Ends.
To know the nature of SCP 001 is to know the nature of the Foundation. The Foundation Overseers, also known as the O5 Council, have altered the fabric of reality for the benefit of their own wicked desires. These alterations are the source of all supernatural activity in our universe. The First Overseer aas established a council of monsters and demons that answer at his beck and call, all so he may sit on his foul throne atop the putrid wound of the Foundation and lap like a dog from its seeping, pustulent orifice
Calvin Lucien and his team have hunted down and destroyed eight of the Overseers, and now only four more remain. The rest must be killed if the world is to continue. None can be allowed to survive.

If i don't remember badly the administrator is a multy dimensional being, so he could just force him to become the new O5 and he wouldnt know.
I doubt the button would do anything.
The button is actually a fake. No matter what calvin did, he was going to kill all the 05s, end up in that room, and talk to the administrator. The administrator himself started all of this, he contros the chaos insurgency. The chaos insurgency, as I've mentioned in another comment, is just a group to select the new leaders of the foundation.
Even if through some strange means, calvin decided to press the button, nothing would happen and the administrator would kill him. Then resurrect the previous 05s and wait for it to happen again.

Maybe The Administrator actually helped and/or protected Calvin, because he wanted to eliminate the current members of the 05 Council ? After all, the previous 05-1 initially wanted to end the SCP Foundation. Even though he changed his mind, it was mainly to prevent an even bigger threat and there was the possibility that he would be the one to betray them, sooner or later, feeling he had made the wrong choice, when he accepted the job. Maybe, once in a while, The Administrator senses that the current 05-1 is about to reach his or her true breaking point and desert or destroy the SCP Foundation - hence the need for a replacement ? Maybe Calvin was just the most promising replacement candidate ?
Possibly.
The theme of this whole story is 'The end justifies the means' Its the core of calvins and the 05s actions.
It all ties into the whole ouroboros thing as something that will keep happening over and over again. Btw ouroboros is the snake eating its own tail from norse myth i think. Its used as a symbol for infinity, hence the whole story.
The ends will always justify the means, which in this case means that in order to prevent the world from going kaput due to countless anomalies being released if the foundation got suddenly destroyed, the foundation needs to exist. Its what the admin convinces calvin of and why he becomes what he hates; starting the whole cycle once again.
@Gaibriel Melnyk the administrator controls everything he is the true god of the SCP world and it’s unlikely that he has a corporeal form, the idea of the ouroboros cycle is that the SCP foundation cannot be destroyed or else there would be no SCPs and therefor you couldn’t read the ouroboros cycle. The story must continue and no matter how many infinite attempts there are to destroy the foundation the administrator won’t let it happen. The administrator likely represents the actual administrators/ creator of the SCP website. The reason Calvin has plot armor is because he is being guided by the administrators will, it’s not bad writing it’s part of the story.

So to clarify, these videos are a summery of the events of the actual story, having read it, assuming it hasn't been changed, the reason why the foundation needed to be destroyed was because the foundation is the reason anomalies exist, the administrator, back before anomalies were a thing, tampered with the vary fabric of reality, and in doing so caused it to start unraveling, and that unraveling of reality is why anomalies exist, if the foundation continues to exist reality will continue to unravel.
So Calvin was aware the foundation was the cause, the administrator informs him of what would happen if the foundation were to be destroyed, and Calvin has to make a choice, he chooses to take over the role of 05-1 and keep the foundation working so that the anomalies aren't set free, and the man who loved him becomes the leader of the Chaos Insurgency, essentially seeking to do exactly what Calvin did, and so the cycle begins again.

This dude Calvin just fought his way through over a dozen different reality bending scenarios to destroy the SCP foundation and he was all set to push the button that would end it all, and then all it takes to convince him to not do that is for some guy to say "But if you do, people will die", and Calvin is just like "Oh yeah, I forgot about that!"

Well no, this video actually does a terrible job of explaining why Calvin switched sides in the end. You need to read the SCP document for the full context, but actually Calvin discovers that the administrator (a supernatural interdimensional being) is the true evil behind the foundation and the reason why Calvin decided to defeat the foundation in the first place, and that the O5 council was actually just trying their best to help humanity.
Killing the O5 would do nothing to the administrator, and that it'll happily exist while the rest of the world (and the foundation) burns. Calvin's defeat of the SCP foundation would thus be useless as the administrator would still live.
The only chance Calvin would have against the administrator would be to use the powers of the SCP foundation against it, and so Calvin takes up the position of O5-1 and appoints his own council.
And thus the cycle continues, (heavily implied but never stated) with each O5-1 taking up its mantle with the purpose of killing the administrator, only to be killed and replaced before they could accomplish it.

I just wonder if this is a cycle that is consistent, eventually 05-1 will reveal the administrator to be the real evil. Someone will take the idea to either unplug the phone once entering or bringing a reality anchoring device and placing it down before using the computer thus stopping any interdimensional beings from interacting in that said moment.
Granted that may also be the reality that the scarlet king decides to manifest as the scp organization is effectively killed.

The fact Calvin willingly saves Adam's life with the elixer from the fountain of youth, and wanted to stop him from being shot is just oddly wholesome for a video about the SCP foundation, but also is really sad when you consider that he goes one to betray his own friend and someone he loves (whether it's platonically or romantically you can make the argument for) is very heart wrenching when you stop to think about it.
Did... Did this actually pass for a legit scp story? It really feels like an entirely different property.

Actually, the room is just a setup, a prop. In this very room, the administrator has lured the new 05-1 of every generation and given them the choice. The thing here is, that the one who ends up in the room never has a choice. They realize that that very moment that they've been played.
The administrator is said to actually control both the chaos insurgency and the Foundation at the same time. The chaos insurgency is actually sort of a scouting program for the next 05-1, made by the administrator.
Even if calvin somehow clicked the button, nothing would have happened because it's fake

For those still confused by the ending, here's a few bits from the original entry (scp-wiki.wikidot.com/djkaktus-s-proposal-iii if you'd like to read for yourself) that for some reason didn't make the cut in this video:
- The Administrator is a living metaphor, of sorts. They're a physical manifestation of the foundation and it's morals, in the form of a person. The root of the foundation, and the anomaly to end all anomalies. If the foundation itself gets shut down or ceases to exist, The Administrator will be set loose upon the world, and... well it doesn't specify what they do, but it leads to the end of the world in some form. They aren't the *actual* administrator, by the way. That title belongs to some guy named Fredrick Williams, and in this SCP canon he's (apparently) dead, killed by Aaron.
-Aaron was himself previously a Chaos Insurgency member, and was sent along with Sophia Light and Anthony Wright (the guy who died to O5-7, in case you forgot) to kill the O5 council. They succeeded without any of them dying, but Aaron picked up the phone just like Calvin did now, and became the new O5-1. Sophia joined him and become O5-2, The Nazarene, but Anthony went back to the Insurgency, becoming it's leader for a time. Aaron hand-picked each of the O5 council to keep The Administrator in check somehow.
-After the conversation with the Administrator, Calvin becomes O5-1 (nicknamed "The Usurper" for obvious reasons) and takes charge of the Foundation. He makes the same deal with death that was made with O5-13 except on Olivia instead, and she becomes O5-2. Unfortunately, bringing people back from death takes a toll, and Olivia is a walking corpse, more or less. The council are immortal once more. Adam finds out about Calvin becoming O5-1, and vows revenge on him.
-The author of the journal is nicknamed "Ukulele" a famous codename of the infamous Dr. Clef, a prominent figure in the SCP stories. He's well known for being one of the most dangerous people working for the foundation that isn't an O5. His most famous story regards him trying to kill SCP-239. (scp-wiki.wikidot.com/incident-239-b-clef-kondraki)
The figure known as Purpose is also famous in SCP lore; it's implied they're actually Agent Lament, a well-known containment specialist and operative.

It has been 10 months already, so probably very few people will see this, but I wanted to write it down in case someone was still confused about the ending.
It was not explained here, but the existence of The Administrator was supposed to be the reason anomalies started to appear, but he was supposed to have died decades ago. The Insurgency thought that anomalies kept appearing because the Supervisors (the 05 council) had taken whatever The Administrator was using for that and decided to keep it in order to expand their power.
The big reveal was that The Administrator hadn't been killed because he could not be killed. He is the first anomaly, born when humans found a slight wound in reality. He is humanity's knowledge of the possibility of anomalies incarnate and, as such, will remain alive as long as the foundation exists.
But even if the foundation ceases to exist, the other anomalies will still be there. They will kill millions once they get outside. Humans not noticing their anomalous nature would be impossible. Thus the Administrator would be reborn and everything will have been for nothing.
And anomalies cannot be fully eliminated. 682 exists. Therefore, the only way to get rid of them is to keep studying them, thus keep The Administrator alive, with the hope that one day they will have enough knowledge to end the cycle once and for all.
Until then:
Secure. Contain. Protect.

it was more of a civil war that calvin happened to be a pawn in. Half of the overseers straight up killed themselves, and the other half were too busy screwing each other over to do anything. the point of the ouroboros is that it swallows itself. Calvin did nothing but survive the crossfire and beat a dying old man with no will to live.

The pain Calvin had felt in the end was so strong I can feel it resonate within me. He had not only lost friends to the SCP foundation and sacrificed everything he knew, but now he had to become the very thing he hated the most. Adam had almost died for the one who he loved, and Olivia and Anthony had been killed for nothing. If he had in fact, accepted the O5 position, he would be forced to carry that guilt until the next cycle occurs. And who knows what would happen then?

In his defense This isn’t entirely how it goes.
Adam gets paralyzed from the shot, Calvin gives him some of the remaining fountain of youth water and is healed, Adam gets the bullet out and they continue on their way. There’s a bit more nuance to the whole story but it’s basically all there.

They left out a lot of important details throughout the story.
The Administrator is an SCP himself. Hes formed from the collective thought and will of the foundation to secure contain and protect. Even if Calvin terminated all SCP sites and let the anomalies run loose on the world, the Administrator will still be there because he isnt a person.
They also left out Aaron Siegal was also a chaos insurgency member who was on the same exact path like Calvin but betrayed the insurgency. Which is why they wanted him dead. But he was also given the same choice as Calvin. Become O5-1 or terminate the world with the Administrator still alive afterward.
Hence why the SCP is called the Ouroboros Cycle. It's a never ending cycle of the O5 changing hands because they once believed in destroying the SCP and allowing the world to heal.
The story was supposed to end with Calvin being the new O5-1 with a new team of O5s and Adam becomes the next person in the cycle to kill Calvin for his betrayal. Calvin knows this and hopes he can reason with him when the time comes.
