@@michellekirkendall818 Oh I know, but some artists/groups that have been on there weren't really "Unsung" but it would be a good way to get there story out.
@@Miketendo93 Those BORN in the era know Martha and The Vandellas. And, surely, those who don't know about the group, can find out about them through historical footage (example, Motortown Revues, 1962, 1963 or 1964). They were second to The Marvelettes with the first hits of "The Detroit Sound." However, NEVER "unsung."
I had the pleasure of meeting the legendary Martha Reeves as well as the late great fellow Motown pioneer Mary Wilson. It was an honor to meet them both. I even told Ms. Reeves I honestly liked her version of Dancing in the Street with the Vandellas even more so than the 80s Bowie/Jagger version. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I don't remember when I first learned of the song Honey Chile. However, I remember how smitten I was when I heard it. Sounds like a mama scolding her child. I think some women need to hear that song and take it to heart. It's still relevant to this day. Love that song💛🌻
I'm really glad you did this. I am a huge Motown fan. And someone once said that Martha Reeves & The Vandellas were a 'One Hit Wonder' and I said Nooo they had a Lot of hits Come And Get These Memories, Heatwave, Dancing In the Street, Quicksand, Love Makes Me Do Foolish Things, Nowhere To Run, Honey Chile, My Baby Loves Me etc... So no they were not a one hit group At All! Also Martha's albums post Motown were good too!
So glad you could educate someone on the illustrious and very rockin' tuneful hit songs of Martha and The Vandellas. I was a young kid then working in a downtown Detroit record store, and their records sold out (and were restocked) quickly. It was a glorious time only a few short years before "The Troubles" came to Detroit. Always rely on the music, though; always the music. Once it's in you, it never leaves--and you don't want it to.

This video was very well narrated: You defiitely have refined vocal skills for rhetorical narration. The bio material was on point: nothing more or less than what is needed to present an overall viewl of Martha Reeves' career.
If I'm asked if I had to choose between Martha And The Vandellas or Diana Ross and The Supremes, I have to say Martha. Nowhere To Run is in my top 3 songs ever written next to Louis Armstrongs' It's A Wonderful World and Proco Harum's A Whiter Shade Of Pale.

Barry Gordy was ‘dancing in the sheets’ with Diana Ross that’s why Martha & The Vandellas were pushed out. In my opinion, it is Martha & The Vandellas for me. Back thrn folks could sing. Berry was always infatuated with Diana Ross and put her above every other Motown artist even the Supremes! They were just backing singers Diana was the one Berry pushed forward all the time eg allowing her to sing lead vocals!
I have heard all the Supremes LPs, Martha and the Vandellas, and Gladys Knight's LPs on Motown. Martha and Gladys throughout had what can only be described as "soul". Diana and the Supremes were pop. Room for both of course.
When Berry and Diana got together the supremes had 5 number one singles...Martha had zero number ones on the pop charts. Berry fell in love with Diana and knew she had what it took to take him and his company to next level and she did. She made him millions...
@@martinpensom5103 How do you explain the fact that Diana had 12 # one hits...the public favored her. Why would Berry change the formula by letting someone else take the lead? Come on now...He didn't push her forward the public did and he followed what the public wanted and they wanted Diana...who ended up with a grand total of 18 # ones. 12 with the Supremes and 6 in her solo career. The public favored Diana first with 12 number-one hits. Martha had zero number-one hits. So why wouldn't Berry back a winner? Diana's success had nothing to do with who she was sleeping with. Berry looked at her and saw he had a gold mine. He said he fell in love with her just like the public did.
Martha and the Vandellas were more popular in England but Berry sabotaged them to promote the Supremes instead. Why couldn’t he let both perform? He had to have Diana become the star no matter what.
Good morning some people don't know or don't want to hear the truth. Berry sidelined everyone including writeers Flo Ballard Glabys Knight and many others to satisfy his agenda to make Diana a star. Those facts are well known now.

Why was Martha Reeves given the privilege of putting her name before the Vandellas, the more I read about the music industry, the artists, I can't help but wonder, if these artists who are still living do they regret entering this Business, of course we must keep in mind during this era 😔😥 and even today, African Americans had to do what ever it took to at least try to get out of poverty, since opportunities to acquire some wealth for African Americans was unattainable for the majority who sought after it, sadly 😔😥 for those who made it successfully, only to fall into drugs, alcoholism, or victims of a crime, sometimes ending in Death, this is more common today more than it was many decades ago, especially with Hip-hop, Rap music artists dying so young during the nineties to the present, it's quite obvious this Business is so toxic, and there are many who enter into it, just cannot handle the rigorous work it takes to maintain their own success.
