How about using the correct flag for the period? That is what one does with German.
The first conflict South Africa entered in WWII was the East African campaign, when Italy declared war on Britain, South African Airforce struck the unexpecting Italians in Abyssinia from Kenya.

Hi ..I'm from south-africa ..yes the flag is incorrect for the time period. However, the old south-african flag is a big nono in modern times , displaying the flag in any way is highly illegal here and considered a racial hate crime ...
I think he avoided showing that flag in fear the video might be flagged as inappropriate ..
South africa was a respected country but slowly started following the wrong path , which ended in the country getting handed over to a crime syndicate..
      Things are pretty bad now

@@FransOfficialMusicSA First, the flag is older than Apartheid, no excuse there.
IF the flag is a no no, than they should make the parliament buildings a no no, anything from the whites a no no.
I once saw my grandmothers drivers licence, it had a swastika stamped in it. My mother told me it was the official government at the time and is a valid document, despite West Germany banning Nazi symbols.
I wish you well in South Africa, I'm aware what happened there, Marxist government that does not govern for the people, but for their own pockets.

Thank you for that video. At the start of the war the SA navy was called the Seaward Defence Force (SDF) which became the South African Naval Force (SANF) in 1942. My father served in the SANF on board whalers and trawlers converted into minesweepers and anti-submarine vessels, including T 42, (HMSAS Brakpan) pictured at 6.06. He described them as being extremely wet and uncomfortable in the heavy seas around the SA coast. My godfather served on HMSAS Southern Maid in the Mediterranean. Don't forget the majority of South Africans would have preferred to fight for Germany considering what Britain (as well as her Empire troops from New Zealand, Australia and Canada) had done to their civilian population and POW's just 40 years prior.
So it took huge parliamentary debate, and even a change of government, to get the bill passed.
Even so, South Africa managed to scare up 335 thousand volunteers. Not bad considering the population numbers were on a par with New Zealand's in 1939.

South Africa in general has never had an affinity for the sea ( or navy) reason is simple. South Africa’s geography it has a small coastal belt and a large interior, and almost no navigable rivers. South Africa if necessary can survive on its own .. it does not need to import much. Unlike Australia or NZ it’s not surrounded by water. Being so far away from a front there is almost a zero chance of an amphibious assault which can be defended using an good Army ( Which is what South Africa has always focussed on ) …

We got problems a navy won't solve at this point, electricity is just the tip unfortunately. We recently and very narrowly just escaped a state capture event for an example of how things are going,

Not only the wrong flag, but the story is not correct. Simonstown Naval Base fell under the Royal Navy until the late 50`s earl 60`s. Shortly after SA declared itself a Republic after the 31st of May 1961. The UK handed back the Simonstown Naval base back to the SAN
(South African Navy) and the SAN rebuilt is naval capabilities' and was duly assisted by the SAF (South African Air Force) that had WW2 Shackleton's old bombers that patrolled SA coastline from the Kuene river on the Angolan border to the Mozambique border.
SA also had ships that the UK left behind and managed to purchase three small diesel-powered submarines from Germany.
The world implemented sanctions, so the SADF South African Defence Force focused on Manufactuing its own weapons and bought a few strike craft from Israel. Fast forward to post 1994 (Mandela Government) that's when the wheels came off. They retired experienced white Naval staff from command to engineering and installed unexperienced former ANC Cadres into the new SANS (South African Naval Service). We are the only country in the world that has 5 Admirals, 10 Vice Admirals a couple of ships. Oh, and I forgot 3 subs of which one I think is operational.

The Shackleton was a dedicated maritime reconnaissance aircraft.
The RN operated out of Simons Town under the 2957 Simons Town Naval agreement.
The SAN operated out of Durban.
The agreement was scrapped in the 1970's if my memory serves me right.
The submarines were 3 French built Daphne class subs. They were replaced by German built subs under an arms sales agreement.
The SAAF operated Buccaneer aircraft from the UK and at one stage Piaggio aircraft in the inshore maritime reconnaissance role.
Under the Simons Town naval agreement, SA purchased British built Frigates, destroyers, minesweeper and seaward defence boats.
The SAN acquired a tanker which was converted to a replenishment ship.
They later built a second in Durban.
3 new build strike craft were purchased from Israel and a futher 6 i think were built in Durban.
De Klerk dismissed/got rid of a number of senior military officers when he took over.

The SA Navy did pack a punch above its weight during the Angolan bush war in 80s.

Rhodesia did not have dominion status as the other commonwealth countries did it had 0 control over its policies with you logic Palestine declared war first as well and yes concentration camps were first used in the second boer war in 1900 by the British against both boer republics
(Edit) and the declaration means nothing due to Rhodesias standing as a colony and not a dominion which makes any diplomatic action irrelevant unless given by the British government
