    I also change mine on a T/A from a 3.08 to 3.73 Richmond Gear and bearing set( 1st timer). I did turn the old pinion bearing on a lathe to get the right sims in . I think the back lash was .008 so you do need a dial indicator, torque wrench and a impact driver.

    I hate to be Debbie Downer but that doesn’t look good at all. The other guy should have known that the pinion depth was way off. No reason to cut corners when you have that much invested brother. Your drive side pattern needs to be centered on the tooth side to side, and on the bottom 1/3 toward the toe side on a hot rod setup. I knew you were in trouble when he thought that backlash was going to bring the pattern in. Backlash moves the drive and coast side up and down. Not side to side.

      Exactly, pinion needs to move closer to ring. In other words pinion set too deep. Carrier shims only affect backlash. If someone is watching I would never run this setup.
