You can make underground dungeons...use the stone base terrain and then just build it, from top down it will look like a proper dungeon, you can also set the base level and then dig down to place the walls.

The next update, which hits tomorrow, adds several new biome types, a ton of new items, a video capture and screenshot system, as well as integrating your Heroforge figures for placement. There is a first person mode as well, they have fog of war and few other things on the to do list and this could become a proper VTT.

That would be amazing, seems like they are doing serious development on it. There will have to be an update video soon with all of the content they are adding.

I'm always looking for better ways to make maps, this is perfect.

Are they planning on modern and scifi assets? Chronos launches soon and it does the modern scifi stuff. Would be great to have it all in one spot

But is it not a waste to build a 3d world just to have it export as a top down 2d map? I was thinking it would be like a more advanced talespire.

I dm'd pathfinder for years and I'm thinking of starting an online campaign so i can play again. But I suck at virtual map making. This kind of program looks awesome. My only gripe is the $44 price tag + $10 a month for roll20 premium is pretty steep.

Check out FoundryVTT, that's what we use. It's 50 dollars but no monthly subscription, and it's much better. We also use Dungeoncraft to build maps and it's a very good tool as well, we'll have a video on it soon, but worth checking out.

@@denji20 Does the Foundry work for Pathfinder 1e? I saw on their site it supports PF2 but not PF1?
Appreciate the vids/feedback I do miss running a game and would love to find a way to get back into it.

@@justinc882 It does support PF1, it's pretty well integrated as well as far as I remember. We've been running 5e for so long it's been a bit. But it's open source and there are tons of third part modules you can easily put in for it as well.

Is there a staircase and second floor type situation? I really want a balcony for the second floor of the great hall. Throw a PC off there to the first floor!

As of right now, no. Buts it should be coming in a future update.

    • @ehgodfrey

You can do multiple floors a couple of different ways. Easiest is make the main floor map, save it, then use the same floorplan to make the second floor or basement and save it under a different name, then load them as different scenes in your VTT. There are several stair and ladder options. There are also a lot of stackable pieces so you can visually give some things multiple floors, but will need to make seperate maps to actually have a floorplan. They do plan to add multi floor options in the next update or two, so probably by end of year. They have a very robust update schedule and have been keeping to it.

This is a cool tutorial for making multilevel maps, where you have rooms on different levels, but not on top of each other.

Will this work for making maps for a digital tabletop using real minis, like a tv or monitor face up. (Don't know the right term), or is it for online gaming or is there no actual difference lol?

It will absolutely work for that purpose. You don't have to use walls, etc. if you are using real minis, it should be pretty easy to do.

@@HillbillyHobgoblins Don't need to export it I play it right where it is at. And If I need a map I go to Tales Tavern and just click open it in Talespire. Can get a map on the fly and players on it less than 30 seconds.
