Fun, but scary fact: Mark Hamill(Luke Skywalker) was in an automobile accident prior to the filming of this movie. And his face was scared up pretty bad. That's why he looks a little bit different in this one. And the Wampa(snow creature)attack scene in the beginning was added in to explain the scars on his face.
This is pretty much my favorite movie of the original trilogy. And maybe tied for first out of all of "Star Wars" movies. This one introduces us to Yoda(performed and voiced by puppeteer Frank Oz) and Lando Calrissian(played fantastically by Billy Dee Williams).
7:34 One thing about this scene, is that I never saw it as Leia having romantic feelings for Luke. And her kissing him was just a way to get a reaction from Han.
Yoda stalling Luke in the beginning to test his patience is definitely one of my favorite Yoda moments.
31:38 Fun Fact: Han's original line during this scene was supposed to have been "I love you too". But Harrison Ford thought it wouldn't be something that Han Solo would say back. So, that line was improvised by Harrison Ford himself. And the "I love you" "I know" exchange between Leia and Han became one of the most memorable moments in the movie.

Thankfully you don't have to wait 3 years(like us growing up in the 80s did)to find out whether or not Vader was lying about being Luke's father, and finding out the fate of Han.

The wampa scene was NOT added to explain his facial reconstruction. The accident happened in January of 1977, months before the original premiered in May. Filming of Empire began in March of '79, two years later, long after his scars had healed. The wampa scene was set-up for a subplot in which wampas attacked the Rebel base the same time as the Imperials, but the wampas in those attack scenes looked like crap so the scenes were dropped. This is all documented in The Making of Empire Strikes Back by J.W. Renzler.
But, you know -- never let the truth get in the way of a good urban legend.
Thank you I appreciate that!! I always love the behind the scenes creative additions to classics like Star Wars. The bit with Han Solo saying "I know" takes me out 😂that is very on brand for him. I can't wait to watch Episode 6!
The failure at the cave refers to the fact he had fear, which then conjured up an image of Darth Vader.
Regarding Luke's failure at the cave: Remember that Yoda instructed Luke that the Jedi use the Force for knowledge and defense, never attack, then later stated that he would not need his weapons when in the cave, but Luke brings them anyway. Once within the cave and confronted by the vision of Vader, Luke's immediate reaction was to attack. Seeing his face in Vader's mask was a warning that if he continued to allow fear and aggression to guide his actions he will *become* like Vader.
That's a great explanation! Those feelings are the dark side of the force as yoda was saying which means if he lead with those emotions he'd join the dark side. I love the nuance with the force and the Jedi Code
Top reaction dude, really entertaining! I read recently that they didn't tell Mark Hamill (Luke) that the snow creature scene involved cutting its arm off, and he was pissed when the movie ended up that way -- a Jedi either wouldn't do that or would be more merciful and kill the creature entirely.
After the next movie, you'll have to tell us if you'd take blue or red saber :)
Thank you that means alot! I am still learning the ways of the Jedi but its starting to seem that Jedi and the force are more religious in nature so I can see the mercy aspect. I'll be ready to let you know red or blue saber after my next reaction!
Darth was indeed saying Luke could destroy the Emperor. That’s why Darth hoped the two of them could unite to overthrow the Emperor and rule the galaxy as father and son.
Okay okay I get it I was wondering what his angle was because he was loyal to the Emperor. That means Luke really is THE Chosen one
@@StephanThaPhenom That’s why these movies become richer with each new viewing. You’ll gain insight into this after seeing Return of the Jedi. You will gain even greater insight as you watch the prequel trilogy.

So you wanted to know some facts: when Luke was lost in the blizzard he was actually right outside his hotel in Norway, Yoda’s swamp was completely man made and last but not least Harrison Ford & Kerry Fisher , well fill in the blanks!! 😜
Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher's affair was during the filming of Episode IV, not Empire. She was 19, he was 35 and married at the time.
Many consider this the best. I say 3. Now you have to get thru 6, 1, 2. Brace yourself, you won't be the person you are now after this journey
