I really love the priest, Willibard, and the way he responds to his circumstances here. he was the only person who tried to warn the villagers of what was about to happen last episode. he got the shit kicked out of him for it, and it didn't work, but he tried. and now here he is, questioning god, for the role that god has played in humanity's suffering... whether through the challenges he's making them face intentionally, or the way he's simply neglected and abandoned humanity to its own devices. in general, it seems like both Willibard and Anne (red haired girl from last episode) share a perception of god, sitting in heaven, aloof, and unwilling to intervene in the trials he sets before human beings, who are not empowered to make a difference as they weather it all. but Willibard's questioning of god, the father, seems to strike a nerve with Canute. when Canute says that "all fathers love their children," his assertion seems like an insecure statement about the king... his own father on high, powerful yet distant, sometimes inscrutable and yet... always loving. right? Canute can hope... but it may be right for his faith to be shaken. this may not be the time or place for naive hope. and Ragnar has known this since before their journey even began. back when we caught our first glimpse of Canute, there was already a scene of Sweyn giving the order for Canute to handle the siege, and Ragnar protesting, while probably in the process of coming to the horrible realization of what that assignment really meant. Ragnar was already aware of the political situation between Canute and Harald's respective factions. the love of The Father might not extend to all of His children... and Ragnar still wants to shield Canute from that reality. and on the subject of absent yet loving fathers... after Canute storms off, Thorfinn once again has cause to think of Thors. and I think it's very relevant that Thorfinn is missing him here, now, after this dark deed. Thorfinn is living very far from the love his father displayed so readily. if there were grace and compassion in the person raising him... who might Thorfinn have turned out to be? as for Ragnar... I think I said already, but he breaks my heart because he's not good at this. the show has made a point of displaying this on multiple occasions. when he calls out in the midst of the forest fire and identifies himself even to the enemy, or when he demands three warships for their travels when Wales isn't equipped to provide them with such an extravagance... it's not just that Ragnar is used to high society (though it is partly that) but also... Ragnar is not good at playing the field strategically. he has very little tact, and poor instincts. his main method of protecting Canute is to keep his hackles up, indiscriminately, all the time. and then he still fails to notice really obvious stuff, like the setup in this episode. it's horrible, because that annoyingly defensive helicopter parent tendency of his from early on, is really just this man trying his absolute 110% maximum to keep one child safe. and when he talks to Canute about cooking, you can see the interest he shows in it, and how engaged he is... even privately going and asking for recipes when they eat something that tastes good, because he knows Canute would like that. in general, cooking together and sharing a meal is such a distinct indication of care for another person... something sorely lacking from Canute's relationship with his actual father, who would rather destroy what Canute made, than take a single bite. but this is why it makes sense that, when Ragnar asks to speak with Askeladd... it's not because he's thought of some brilliant plan. he's not a strategist in the best of times. but he does deeply care about Canute. so he straightforwardly asks Askeladd to take care of him, and warns him about what may come. Ragnar knows that many, many people are against Canute in this world, and Ragnar was one of the most dedicated people that would always be in his corner, for Canute's sake... not for the sake of anyone or anything else. so he makes one final blunt plea for his safety. because at the end of everything, that's who Ragnar is. if he could've lived as an honest man with a simple life, I think he would've done that well and successfully.

Hello again, here are the explanations from episode 6 (no spoilers). 1) From this episode, it became known that when a demon dies, its power disappears, that is, if a demon is dead, its abilities no longer affect you. 2) So, now you know that demons can make contracts with people, where each side must fulfill its part. That is, if one side has fulfilled its part, then the other side must fulfill its part, the one who breaks the contract will die (I will tell you that contracts in the Chainsaw Man universe are very important and will play a big role in the future). From this episode, we also know that demons cannot make contracts with each other, only with people (you should remember this part for the future because it is important). 3) Eternity is not particularly feared because in everyday life you do not often think about eternity, because you are afraid of eternity only if you think about it too much, so the Demon of Eternity is not particularly strong and has average characteristics, but do not forget that he swallowed a piece of gun devil's flesh so that it would become much stronger. I would also like to talk about the abilities of the demon of eternity, namely that he can occupy a certain space and close or duplicate it and stop time in it, which in principle corresponds to his concept of eternity. I also wanted to mention his other ability, which is eternal regeneration, meaning he can infinitely regenerate his body without the need to drink someone else's blood (if you remember, demons can regenerate by drinking someone else's blood, but emu doesn't have to do that, which is his specialty), and the only way to kill him is to destroy his heart, which he can MOVE INSIDE HIS BODY (that's why Denji's plan is to just torture him with pain so that he kills himself). By the way, the Demon of Eternity is a great example of the fact that there are demons with peculiar concepts, fear of which is not particularly strong because of this, they have average characteristics, but can have completely unique abilities due to their peculiar concepts, and these abilities can be quite strong and combative under certain conditions that compensate for their average characteristics. And the Demon of Eternity is a great example of this. 4) Did you read my previous comment under your reaction to episode 5 of Chainsaw Man?

YOOOOOO so hype about part 4. the artsyle is so much different because Araki changed it during the whole, maturing his art during this part. So the animators just took the artstyle of the end of pt4 and applied it to the whole part. Josuke Higashikata is named jojo because one of the kanji in his surname can be red as "jo", his appearance is based on the singer Prince, his hair are based on the '90s Japanese bullies one and his stand Crazy Diamond refers the song "Shine on you crazy diamond" by Pink Floyd. Koichi's surname Hirose is river near Sendai, the city Araki was born and which is an inspiration for Morioh. Anjuro Katagiri is a reference to Angelo Badalamenti a singer, and his stand Aqua Necklace refers the album Aqua by Asia.

for this episode, I want to copy over something I'd already written... it's lightly edited, but there's very little else I'd want to say: I think the really severely important thing about this episode, is the theme of the conceptualization of love from different angles. when Willibard is trying to explain it to Atli and Torgrim, you can tell that the priest is trying to describe something more complicated than he knows how to say, and more complicated than they know how to feel. for our purposes in the story now, I think Thors resonated with Willibard because he was acting with this understanding. basically, he saw Askeladd's men, destructive as he understood them to be, and still felt like killing them was wrong. their lives are experienced by them with as much importance as his own life is experienced by him. he has no right to rob them of that. and I think that empathetic base lays the groundwork for this type of "love" that is broader than personally knowing someone. it's imagining someone with just as much depth as you feel within yourself. I mean... Thors even used to kill on a similar scale to how they do. anyone who loved a person he killed would have every right to feel bitter toward him. and, likewise, if he wants to believe that he himself can be reformed, then he also has to acknowledge the potential of these men. it would've been hard to guess that Thors could improve someday, before he did it... how can Thors pretend to know whether these men have that in them or not? if you've actually, truly considered this... then you should feel that their deaths would be a tragedy. if not to you, then at least to them, from their perspective... or to someone, somewhere. it takes a different type of love to make a goal out of saving people who wouldn't save you. but when Askeladd's men decimate the village in this episode... we see the other side of that coin. Askeladd's men can't imagine that feeling on behalf of people they don't know. even someone that Atli and Torgrim do kind of know, like Willibard, wouldn't gain their protection. and they may not even want to understand their victims as people, given how bad they should feel about what they've done. their victims are people who have a right to hate them. Askeladd and his crew are vikings. their whole job is to create victims of their violence on the regular. and when you take a step back, you have to wonder... do they understand what it is to love at all? do they know, like, _really_ know, what it would feel like to fear losing someone, or something? do they understand what they're doing to these people? are they capable of imagining how much it would hurt? or did these men lose access to that? where does love come from when your goal is superiority, to the detriment of anyone who encounters you? whatever positive qualities you think love gives to a person... these men probably can't experience that. if they could, they might value it... Thors left the battlefield after the birth of his daughter, which gave him an attachment to a fragile human being that he loved, and didn't want to lose. but as it stands, arguments in favor of love aren't compelling to these men. but it goes even further. the girl who stole the ring is so afraid of divine punishment, even for something as minor as taking a piece of jewelry. and you can understand her motives... she's young, and poor, and probably has never laid her hands on anything this nice before in her life. she doesn't deserve to go to hell for it, but she doesn't know that. she's terrified of retribution. and it's to the extent that she's actually relieved to see men who are truly evil... because she understands that her small misdeed is nothing in comparison to them. but that's how terrifying retribution can be as a concept. what are you owed for your crimes? what is the purpose of punishment... what effects will it truly produce? Thorfinn has been putting himself through hell on earth, for failing to kill a man who wronged him. could he ever fix the fact of Askeladd's existence or behavior like this? by making him pay with his life? what is the purpose in that endeavor... and is Thorfinn actually on the path to achieving it? who deserves love, and what does it even mean to give it to them? is it possible to show compassion to people who do evil things, and probably don't even understand love enough to feel it at all? could they feel that, with the right intervention? or is their cruelty a foregone conclusion, now and forever? what about Thors? he got out. was he doing something right? if so... what was that? I think we are, once again, confronted with Askeladd, his men, and their nature, because this is the conundrum that you have to engage with when you think of the phrase "you have no enemies" and try to reconcile it with the world. even if this one girl from the village were to forgive Askeladd for killing everyone... Askeladd wouldn't care. he'd move on, and his whole crew would keep doing this, over and over, until someone got angry enough to hate him in a way that matters. that's what Thorfinn is. and Askeladd has no right to say that he doesn't deserve it. he made sure that this would happen someday... his actions made it inevitable. you can't live like that without making someone hate you. but once you've done your worst... what does one more crime matter? this village is just another tally mark on a very long list. he knows he'll deserve any punishment that comes his way in the end, so it's all the same to him. he's already as hated as he could ever expect to be. these men are the farthest from love that they could ever be, and they've done this to themselves, unflinchingly. they might not even understand why they shouldn't. and they avoid empathizing with their victims, because they can't face how bad they _should_ feel for the things they've done. their only defense against the fear of retribution, is to avoid engaging with how much love matters, and what they deserve for destroying it.

yooo we finally made it. Jotaro always had the ability to stop time, remember when he took that drink immediately in front of darby or when he jumped suddenly behind Ndoul. Thats because Dio obtained the stands similar to the ones of the joestar lineage, cause they are related because of Dio having Jonathan's body (you will understand this later). Also during the opening, Avdul was posing for saving Polnareff and Iggy from Vanilla Ice, Kakyoin was doing the 20 radius meters Emerald Splash, and Joseph was trying to warn Jotaro from Dios power. 45:46 Dio can stop time for the whole universe. 48:06 Jotari said this because his character is based on Clint Eastwood western movies, indeed Araki made a special art work for Clint himself cause he's a fan of those movies. Hype for part 4!

also, yes, the devils in this series are a lot like JJK demons... though I actually like Chainsaw Man's version better, because it feels like there's more of a direct cause/effect correlation between human fear, and devil power. literally, if a devil wants to become strong in Chainsaw Man, they can just go out and terrorize people. for some devils this might not even be relevant, if the concept they spring from is feared naturally. the most powerful devils probably don't have much reason to terrorize humans, if people are afraid of the thing they represent either way. and the weaker ones are probably so weak that they'd do better hiding than fighting. it's the middle ones that cause the biggest issues. in this way, fear is a resource... and the devils who don't have much of it have to find a way to earn it, while those who already have a lot can live relatively unbothered. in essence... this is a class issue. and the way human poverty links in with this is fascinating. I mean, it's no accident that Denji ended up with public service. they offer pay incentives in order to get people to hunt devils for a living. the poor are probably more likely to consider doing a dangerous job like this, as we see with Denji in this episode. there are more examples as we go along, and I'll say more later, but thinking about the way devils and humans each have a class hierarchy that pits them against each other is really interesting.

hey, so, I regret disappearing from these reactions for a minute, but I'm back now... this is about where the season has built up enough material that I can start really talking anyway, so I figure this is as good a time as any to jump back into it! this is the episode where I really started feeling sorry for Denji, because like... I think that what Denji actually wants is pretty obvious. he's looking for genuine affection. he got what he "wanted" from Power, but... no he didn't. he did the physical act of touching her, but there was no emotion to it... no care. to anyone watching this situation, the emotionally sterile nature of the deal was obvious. but I think Denji has a harder time seeing that, and it's not just because he's stupid. Denji could imagine this sort of encounter all he wanted, but I think his life has taught him that he _had_ to pay, if he ever wanted it to happen to him for real. he doesn't know how people become loved... he has no experience with it, and doesn't know how it works. all he knows is that nobody would ever want it from him, just for being himself. instead, it's all about transactions, bartering, or trading. he's been trained to expect that no one wants anything to do with him, if he doesn't incentivize it with some form of payment. and since childhood, this became his normal. from the beginning, we've seen Denji live off of scraps, not just in terms of physical resources, but in terms of meaningful relationships. in the first episode, he basically says that someone as poor as him has no shot at dating, because he's completely undesirable. but more than that... his self worth is 100% transactional, in a very literal way. he knows how much money each of his body parts is worth. he has the expectation that people will rip him apart and take pieces of him, even knowing that it hurts him, and his quality of life is irrelevant. and so, he made that deal with Power... "I'll get your cat back if you'll let me touch your chest" is just another transaction. without the payment, Denji knows he couldn't expect the end result. he knows that nobody finds him worthy of anything... he's always had to put up some form of collateral. but even when he pays for the act, it doesn't mean anything. he wants to receive some form of genuine sentiment... but he doesn't know how to give sentiment either. it all goes back to his financial insecurity. he grew up in a situation where nothing was truly his. if he had anything valuable, it was instantly forfeit, due to the massive debt he was saddled with. so he learned to desensitize himself to loss, remove his expectations of ever keeping anything, and never truly feel desire or affection for anything... not so much that losing it could hurt him. losing everything was a foregone conclusion. even losing Pochita hasn't really hit him the way it would hit a normal person. how could he have ever expected to keep something that good? but this leads to these massive intimacy issues, where Denji isn't willing to invest hope, or love, or desire into any particular person. and he doesn't realize what the roadblock is. why isn't this thing he wanted actually satisfying to him? why isn't there any warmth, or comfort? this is the way that Denji has been dehumanized, in every sense of the word. and then Makima comes in, and plays right into it. she shows him the kind of physical intimacy that would actually feel good. something that comes from observing people, and figuring out what they respond well to, at least on a physical level. you can almost believe the affection is there. but as soon as she gives him even just the smallest taste, it's "kill the gun devil, Denji." because nothing is ever free. nobody would give Denji anything just for being Denji. there's always a catch. it's the transaction again. and Makima knows how much importance Denji puts on this goal of achieving physical intimacy... so she sets the price sky high. but this is actually a transaction that Denji is already familiar with. being willing to put himself in danger used to be the only thing anybody ever thought was valuable about him. he made the bulk of his money devil hunting with Pochita, and people paid him well, because nobody else wants to do that job. facing things that are dangerous and scary was the only worth that Denji could squeeze out of his meager life. so when someone asks him to hurt himself for them, he doesn't bat an eye, or think it's weird at all. he doesn't question it, even a little bit. if someone truly cares for you, they should want to keep you out of danger, not send you into it. but nobody has ever really wanted to protect him before. Denji has only ever had maybe one other entity that wanted to keep him safe... and Pochita ended up dead. Denji couldn't keep him. he couldn't protect him. there's no sense in giving care that will be guaranteed to cause you grief later. as long as Denji doesn't feel affection, he'll never feel the fear of loss. as long as you never expect to be treated well, you'll never fear being treated poorly. if you're at rock bottom, even being told to eat a cigarette for pocket change makes you feel like it's your lucky day. and in a world where fear lends power to the enemy, being desensitized to it is a pretty steep advantage. the only cost is all of the love that Denji could be feeling if he ever aimed high enough to let something really matter to him.

Hello again, I'm ready to answer your questions (no spoilers). 1) The anime cut out the information about how many specific Gun Devils killed from each country and how long it took for each country to die, the anime only said the general figure of 5 minutes 1.2 million dead. Here's the list: Japan - 27 seconds, 57912 dead: United States - 124 seconds, 548012 dead: China - 37 seconds, 316932 dead: Canada - 7 seconds, 8481 dead: Soviet Union - 210 seconds, 155302 dead: Hawaii - 0.4 seconds, 780 dead: Mexico - 2 seconds, 6088 dead: India - 15 seconds, 29950 dead. 2) You might have a question, since the gun devil is so strong and caused such great destruction, then what about demons with more terrible concepts like death and nuclear weapons and so on ..., why did they not show themselves and do not cause great destruction? Well, this question will be indirectly answered in the upcoming film about Chainsaw Man, which will be a direct continuation of season 1 or in season 2. 3) And so the demon Ghost, well, I think there is no point in explaining why people are afraid of ghosts. I will explain about his abilities, namely invisibility and intangibility, quite consistent with the concept of ghosts. Let's start with invisibility, he can turn it off if he wants to show himself to people, now regarding intangibility, he can touch others, but at the same time they cannot touch him and, accordingly, cannot physically harm him, but if you see further in the series how someone manages to harm him, then there are quite understandable reasons for this. 4) By the way, did you read my previous comment explaining episode 4 of Chainsaw Man?
