- / @youcartv 2018-2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class takes another major step towards autonomous driving, elevating Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive to the next level. The range of driving assistance and safety systems features a modular design and as standard includes Active Braking Assist, Crosswind Assist, ATTENTION ASSIST, Traffic Sign Assist and also the occupant protection system PRE-SAFE. New and also part of the standard specification is PRE-SAFE Sound (prepares human hearing for the anticipated accident noise when there is a risk of a collision).
Active Distance Control DISTRONIC and Active Steering Assist now provide even more comfortable support for the driver to keep a safe distance and steer. The speed is now adjusted automatically ahead of bends or junctions. This is complemented by a considerably improved Active Lane Changing Assist and additional functions of the Active Emergency Stop Assist (country-specific variations may occur in terms of the individual functions).
Thanks to enhanced camera and radar systems, the new S-Class has an even better view of the surrounding traffic: In addition, for the first time it makes use of map and navigation data to calculate driving behaviour.
This means that DISTRONIC Active Proximity Assist is able to assist the driver in many situations based on the route, and conveniently adjust the vehicle speed.

Do not worry my friend. Some of this safety features will become standard in the future mid range cars. Like the ABS, which is now common in most cars.

Just think 50 years from now... lol 😂 my 87 Lincoln LSC had ABS, heated side mirrors, told you how many miles tell empty, oil pressure, MPG, and other shit people didn’t really need ... that was an 87!!!!! More shit then most people have in cars today

N B Well that's not all true, my dad has an S Class (2015) and that shit has left him stranded about 5 more times than my 1988 (0 times.) And while of course technology breaks there are definitely some cars that have the tech factor with insane reliability (lincolns, Lexuses, Etc.) They're over engineered and sure it feels great to walk out of the dealer with your 100k $ car and watch the fancy features work and shit but I'd rather drive off the lot knowing that while I may not be in the prestige of a MB, my car is most likely not gonna leave me stranded. I know that of course any car could break down but seeing as, with 12k miles, my dad has shelled out over 6,000$ to fix the car and well, I drive a 50,000$ MKZ that I bought CPO or $33k and I have tacked on addl 55k miles (60k total) and I don't pay for shit (literally just got brake pads and rotors done for free bc they warped). I really wanted an S Class but chose to place an order for the new Continental instead bc at 81,000$ optioned out WITH 50k miles of maintenence it's a no Brainer. I drive currently 60,000 miles a year so that whole maintenance thing really shys me away from Germans

I'm talking rubbish when im simply stating an ownership experience. and I don't have to even prove to you that my dad does, it's not difficult (and his brother does too! only his is the 2017 coupe.) Very special car indeed. didn't say it wasn't, and it's quite beautiful and kept decently up with a GTR when I had the chance to drive it, so quick would be an understatement. that being said, I could not get one as a daily. don't know why the heck u got so butthurt.
cocoadog1998 because I know your talking rubbish that's why, there is simply no way a new s class would break down 5 times (once is even surprising but can happen as with any car) and comparing it to a Lincoln or lexus is embarrassing. I'm speaking from experience my family have owned Mercedes for the past 20 years.

The thing is that people who have money and can afford to buy this car new will not buy it after 10 year, so the sellers have to lowball the price to those with less money available so they can get rid of the car and buy a new one.

The park feature does not do well parallel parking on a slope. I got a new E class as a loaner and three times it hit the curb hard. Serious curb rash on the rims. Lucky it’s was a loaner lol
