- Brushwork is essential to paint expressively. Each brush mark in your painting should be intentional. This video is about impasto brushwork to create waves, rocks and texture on a beach. All part of a seascape painting. These tips are part of my Art Coaching program and you can find more details about it here: www.malcolmdeweyfineart.com/p...

I could watch you paint all day. Just retired, taking art lessons has been on my bucket list. Which I’ve just started taking locally.

Do you have a recommendation for a French Easel or Pochade Box that would serve me well in the studio as well as on site?
Hi Matthew - I do have both of these but use the pochade outdoors and the French Easel as a portable indoor easel. Truth is a French easel is big and heavy. A full size pochade can work in both situations. A sturdy tripod is essential. I use a Guerilla French Resistance pochade I imported from the US. Of course the pochade is best for small to medium size paintings. For large works an H-Frame easel is best.
Thanks Malcolm for this tutorial. What do you exactly mean by " juicy Paint"? Do you mean paint mixed with linseed oil?
Hi Reza - no that is just me describing thick and generous paint. But you raise a good point - I do not add linseed oil or other mediums as the paint should be easy to manage straight out of the tube.
Thank u for the demo
How much time does this thick oil painting take to dry. ?
Lot depends on weather conditions etc. I find about two weeks is fine, but in humid conditions up to a month.
Thanks a lot Malcolm. Can I use modeling paste as an alternative for impasto medium?
That should be fine if it does not desaturate the color. If it does then apply the paste as a texture and paint over it with acrylic paint.
@@MalcolmDewey Thanks a lot!!
Do you sell full video tutorial?
I don't have one for this painting, but there are many full tutorials here: www.malcolmdeweyfineart.com/painting-course.html
Do u let the first layer dry before adding the white?
No I try to complete the painting wet into wet. It is mostly about carefully layering clean color notes over wet or semi wet paint.
@@MalcolmDewey thanks.
