I keep coming back to rewatch videos and marvel how there is always something new to learn or a technique to be reinforced. Thank you for these great teaching videos!
You can get good highlights and even decent zenithal highlights without an air brush, glad someone is making a point of this. Yes its more tedious but I enjoy hand brushing in general. I live in a very humid part of the US so I rarely get to airbrush so drybrush became my to go to and I haven't considered airbrush for majority of my project's. I'm really loving your glazing layering technique, seriously gonna have to try that. You get such good results and its inspired me
I find brush painting more fulfilling. Coming from the gunpla hobby, where airbrushing is mostly what you do, I prefer brush painting a lot when it comes to minis. Glazing with mediums is much easier than the usual glazing with overthinned with water paints. Thanks for watching! ☺️🎨🎨🎨
@@DonSuratos Yeah same route. I too came from gunpla as well. 40k has taken over my hobby space a good bit so I'm anxious to try techniques Iv learned in mini painting. I haven't had the chance to try glaze mediums yet as I just got into glazing buts its definitely on the list.
Cracking video mate. Nice and clear/ easy to understand the technique. Also, I've always been told that if you want to teach someone to do something well... you teach them WHY they should do it that way. This is another thing you did very well here in my opinion. Keep up the good work. Peace from the UK. ;)
Thank you! Both my parents are retired professors. They told me to always focus on the whys... not the hows. Reason why I share my thoughts in all my videos a lot. Thank you sir. ☺️🎨🎨🎨
Wonderful, simply wonderful... In the armor world drybrushing have such a bad reputation, but after seeing your videos, I will try on 1/35 figures... Thanks for such masterclass.
I’m a big fan of drybrushing and using multiple colors. Your video explains it very well and the results are fantastic! Thanks for the tip on applying a light dusting over the lazy wash! I’ll try that.
Thank you for the wonderful content and creativity; For the "Lazy Wash", I noticed the Black Ink, what was the medium? Thinner, Flow-Improver? kindest regards.
Great technique! Can this be done with just spray cans if you don't have access to an airbrush? Also, for the "lazy wash" what do you use to thin the ink? Thanks!
Thank you bro! I miss gunpla, but my daughter Nico got that covered. I hope to do gunpla once in a while though. But miniature painting has been sooo fun. ☺️🎨🎨🎨
Absolutely perfect instruction! I notice that your dry brushes are flat not round. Which brushes do you use and what sizes. So gladI found your channel.
Old school fine arts drybrushes are flat bro... well as far as I remember. ☺️. I use mostly the large citadel drybrush, Redgrass drybrush and some hobbymate filbert brushes. Cheers! ☺️🎨🎨🎨
I've been using round drybrushes for some time now and have used them for this technique as well. I can say that if they are good for the first layer and perhaps for the second, when you arrive at the third and fourth layer it is necessary to use the classic drybrush brushes ... they are more precise 😉
@@zipzorp8858 You can use a plate bro, an old tile or a piece of glass. Fine artists have been using glass palette for ages, both for acrylics and oils. They are great for washes, glazes, metallic paints, pigments and oil washes. ☺️
Very interesting. My understanding that drybrushing with a glass palette (or dish) is different than using a paper tissue for drying the brush. Is that correct? Have you noticed any differences?
as you know by now, I love this technique Don 😍 As in any other, a little training is needed, but in terms of effectiveness and results it is unmatched ... I also like the name you invented 🤣 We needed a specific video😉🙌🏻👍🏻
So when you finished the dry brushing, you painted it with just glazes? Or where the base colors a standard brush dilution? Finished mini looked bad ass.
Roughly Same, IF the dark grey was painted via zenithal. Leaving undersides and crevices black. Also the point here is that this is for people who does not like to use the airbrush. Cheers!
I love your channel it’s fun, it’s helpful, it’s real, it’s educational and most importantly inspirational. Please keep it up! I have a request? Can you do one more video of dry brushing but this time using a mini that has a little more detail like armor, metals, belts, leather rings, that show how to dry brush those areas and not cutting out the glazing layering details and highlighting details. So painting the mini from start to finish dry brushing style and glazing method no airbrush and your thought process behind how and why you make your decisions. It would be the missing piece for me to up my game. Thanks!
@@DonSuratos Oh my gosh, I’m screaming (good screaming) that you actually answered me back. your like my celebrity that you never think is real. Thank you, Thank you… Thank you… so excited! Can’t wait to see it! 🤩
@@jerryburton3846 Oh! Havent painted yet, had to arrange the studio. But will make the video asap. Hopefully will be up tomorrow night my timezone. Glad you like the channel! Cheers! ☺️🎨🎨🎨💙
Drybrushing really looks stunning. I have a question: I have learned that when drybrushing you have to get rid of most of the paints. But to me it seems that you don't do that and use drybrushing more like a basing ans or layering technique. So which way is better?
@@DonSuratos Thank you for the advice. I tried your glazing technique on my Vampires from the Crimson Court. Still a long way to go for me but i Think i am improving.
I love your videos man!! I believe the guys from artis opus would disagree with you about some of your drybrushing thoughts though but still loved the video
Damn dude, you're like a machine pumping out videos this frequently! I'm used to like 1 every week or two from most channels 😂 I hope it pays off for you soon
I also use this technique but I cut some corners, I think. I always spray my miniatures with black primeir and a grey or a white zenithal highlight, and then I go darker base colours into lighter colours, before the lasy wash 😜 I love your terminology! And after that I still do a soft glayering to conect everything! Your content is awesome! And I really want a RG Mate like you but there are outofstock 😪

What is this white mat under glass palette? Looks nice.
Painting / cutting mat from Redgrassgames sir. I will never use it as a cutting mat though. 😅
@@DonSuratos Thanks a lot. Honestly, me neither, I just like the fact it have different paints proportion shortcuts on it ;)

Just out of curiousity but to make the 'lazy wash' What do you use ?
Water or some kind of flow improver ?

The glass palette seems to unload the paint, but without rubbing on tissue, I feel the dryb brushing is not too dry and I love it! Wet drybrushing! 😅

Wouldnt it have the same result priming in dark grey instead of black? then youd save one drybrush-run.

May i pls ask what you used to thin the ink to make a wash sir as i am out of nuln oil 😥ty in advance sir!
Water will do, but glaze medium will make the ink softer. So glaze medium and water is best. ☺️🎨🎨🎨
