  • Mikkelsen Harbor is a small and beautiful bay indenting the south side of Trinity Island in the Palmer Archipelago, Antarctica. It provides excellent anchorage for ships, and was frequently used by seal hunting vessels in the first half of the nineteenth century. This striking harbor has a huge Gentoo penguin population.
The continent of Antarctica makes up most of the Antarctic region. The Antarctic is a very remote area in the Southern Hemisphere. Antarctica is the fifth-largest continent in terms of total area and it is larger than both Oceania and Europe. Antarctica is a unique continent in that it does not have a native human population. There are no countries in Antarctica. Seven countries made defined claims to Antarctic territory prior to the Antarctic Treaty of 1959.
