The shotgun is that thang… Started with the Mossberg (USMC) 7 years. Currently Married to the baby. Mossbergs Maverick 88 combo 12g. Came with both long and short barrels, takes 3 minutes or less to change out. Easy maintenance, reliable and durable. Was Inexpensive at $210, currently between $230-$300 @ Big5 sports. 👌🏾✊🏾love it
I had a 590 in marine coat finish. I had it for almost 20 years with no problems. I sold it because I was thinking of moving overseas. Well my plan has change so I'm staying back in the good ol USA. Now I have the Mossberg 930 spx tactical. Still misses my old 590 so I might get me a 590a1 tactical in the future.
My Dad bought his Sweet 16 in 1962 when he gave me his Ithica 37 to start hunting with. He shot many deer and other game with it. When he passed my brother got it and was going to sell it when he came on hard times. I told him if he sold it to anyone but me he would die. I used it for many years on all kinds of game. My oldest son now has it and it is the holy grail within our hunting family. My other son has the Ithica. They both look like new. The guns that is.
73 yrs. I have the Mossberg 500 A1. Over 40 yrs, even shot skeet with it. In the military, II truly lucked out and got an Iichia Model Combat 37 9 rds. Loaded, ejected rds from the bottom and Gold hunting engraved scenes on both sides. Thought about stealing it, for about 5 seconds. 15 yrs had a few 410 shotguns, the double barrel was my love.
@rafehr 1378 There is a HUGE difference between the Mossberg 500 and the Mossberg 590. 410 shotguns are not near as useful for home defense. Unless one uses slugs they are rather ineffective at ranges beyond 15 yards. The largest shot size for them that I have found is #4. Plus their shells are surprisingly expensive. Cost MUCH more than 12 gauge shells. As far as the gold engraved hunting scenes, I fail to see how that makes it more effective for home defense or anything else for that matter. Course, if you just want a firearm to impress others, I can see why the gold engraving would be desirable.
The Mossburg 590 is by far the best choice. There is no need to get the A1 variety unless you believe you are going to be engaged in battles that last for hours. I have had and used a regular Mossberg for over 20 years without a problem. It still works the same as it did when it was new. The only modification I had done to it was to have the barrel tapped and threaded to accept screw in chokes. The regular Mossberg 590 has a suggested retail price of $445. The location of the 870's safety is easily accessible IF one is righthanded. It is MUCH more difficult to access if one is lefthanded.

My Benelli M1 Super 12 gauge that I bought from a friend’s friend for $500 was a steal as it also came with a Benelli hunting barrel plus I have a Remington 870.
If you have a 5 +1 shotgun, I'm thinking the first two shots are #4 buckshot, followed by a slug and the final three the #4 buckshot! Just my opinion! I like the pump but I DO LIKE the pistol grip, it just feels better in my opinion but if you're hunting birds, it might feel weird!
My Mossberg 940 Pro Tactical is a P. O. S. Bought it new, w/ the Holosun red dot factory installed. So many failure to feed issues with many different types of ammo, including Mossberg recommended ammo. Two different gunsmiths went through it and couldn’t determine the problem, they said to send it back to Mossberg. I did. Mossberg did nothing, said it was fine. 😡

These are all top shelf home defense shotguns.........but hear me out a second. Kel-Tec makes a lot of "meh" guns, but the KSG is just a fantastic home defense shotgun. Mine has run flawlessly with everything I've thrown at it. It'll take 12 mini shells in each tube, + one in the chamber, for a total of 25. That's awesome in a commie state like mine, where I only get 10 + 1 in everything else. Mine is jacked with seven 2 3/4" 00 buckshot, plus one in the chamber, for one tube, and 7 slugs in the other. I know......I know.......Kel-Tec.............but they hit a home run with the KSG, especially when you consider the price.
I own the pump action Mossberg 590A1 shotgun. It holds nine rounds. In addition, i own the Mossberg 930 semi-auto shotgun. It also holds 9 rounds. Get some!
You never told what gauge these guns are. Why should one do pump action for every cartridge, a huge time gap between two firings. Elderly ladies and older men may not be very fast. They may hate pump action. You are also very sensitive to the price of guns. A few hundred dollars extra won't hurt, in a life and death situation, when faced with an active shooter outside your closed front door, shooting through your door.
There are pros and cons to pump vs auto shotguns depending on the application. However, for self-defense purposes, pump action is better. I say this because it is easier to pump that action than to clear a jam, which can and does occur in many auto-loaders depending on the ammunition.
Its not! With the price of just one benelli you can buy three shotguns! So you tell us which is a smarter choice to have 3 shotguns or the idea of having just one for the same price????
The a300 is more like $1500 in my area. I picked up a mossberg 940 pro tactical with a red dot from the factory for just under $1300. Same features as a300

Anyone thinking about a pump shotgun will be fine until you run in to someone quicker than your racking abilities then it’s game over. You’re kidding right? The Judge is not effective past a few yards and it’s a .410…. Just get a Maverick 88 for half the money or a 590A1 and be done with your need for any other shotgun
Auto loader all day A300..... This comparison is like saying I'd take a lever action over a semi automatic.... AR-15 as a example..... No way pump guns are yesterday's news. 😂
