  • This is the third video exploring the Apache Trail in Arizona.
Fish Creek Hill has been closed for several years due to heavy rains and the lack of cooperation between the state and federal governments.
Recently, almost 34 million dollars have been approved for the repair of this historic cliff drive.

Thank you. I used to keep my boat at Roosevelt Lake and I would pull it over to Apache Lake. A little hairy since it’s a big cabin cruiser and takes up the whole road. One day we decided to take the drive from Roosevelt to Canyon Lake. Breath taking. Can’t wait for it to open up again

Thank you for a great video. Brings back many memories. I haven’t been down through the Apache Trail since 1982-83. We have tried to come through a couple of times but road closed for some time. Thank you again. Hope it opens soon. It’s on my bucket list.

Amazing to see. My wife and I drove the Trail back in the late 1990's and it was scary then. It really should be a one way road with weight and length restrictions. I laughed when I saw the "guard rails" I had forgotten just how pathetic they were.

Thanks for the comment..ya, I doubt the guardrails would keep a bicycle on that road. I'll have another video up as soon as the road is fixed. Thanks again

I use to do this road at least once a month to the bottom and down the road a bit. I would lead a small group of about four to five jeeps down this. The newbees were worried some but after a while you get use to it. Thanks for showing this I am going to send this link to other jeepers.

Excellent job on the Apache Trail videos. I spent my childhood in Mesa, Arizona (1960's early 70's). The all -dirt road up to lake Roosevelt was a frequent outing. At that time you could drive through the tunnel and across the dam. Your video brought back fond memories of the trail. Tortilla Flats at the time, was a small wood building. The memory of the wooden Indian on the porch of the store has stayed with me for my entire life. My family and I had many picnics along Fish Creek and at that time, among cottonwood trees. Keep the videos coming!

A few miles on down the road from the bridge there used to be a campground you could drive into and camp. My family would stop there occasionally on our way to or coming back from Apache Lake. There was a cave that you could enter at the base of a cliff and hike through to an opening at the top and get a nice view of Fish Creek and the campground that used to be there.

I'm anxious awaiting them to finally repair the road so I can drive it clear through for the first time. I've been to the closed gates on both ends. I imagine this project to reopen the road will take some time as I believe there will work to mitigate future flood events, but it'll be worth it. It's a unique road that just adds to the tourist magnetism of Arizona.

Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking scenery. I'm looking forward to a time the road reopens, at least for 4x4 vehicles.

dam that holds back apache lake. Spent the night at a big pool of water half way. There was small chubs or minnows of
some kind in it. So you can find fish in fish creek. That was back when we got alot more rain.
