Wow, brings back memories! It was 1970 or 71. My parents had a 30' Gibson houseboat and they took myself and 3 siblings down the Kentucky river all the way to ft. boonesborough. It was a bunch of locks and we pulled alongside the shore each night. It was an incredible trip and the memories just explode in my mind as i watch this video 50+ years later. Thanks
This was in my suggested videos to watch. I clicked on it just to have some background noise and I ended up watching it. I didn’t think I was going to enjoy this video but I did! Thank you!
It literally hurts me to my core that you didn't fish at all on this trip. It is unspoiled fishing at it's finest. Those fish never seen a lure in their life.
@@Cscottsss I've heard that fish stack up at the northernmost lock, and that it's pretty good once you get a ways upstream from Frankfort. But I have no personal experience.
What a cool freaking trip. Definitely making me miss Kentucky. Thanks for sharing this. Looks like you’re here in FL, so maybe we’ll cross paths someday. Nothing beats simple camping and a good steak over a little fire.
Canoed from Lock 14 all the way to Carrolton and the Ohio. A buddy and I made the trip in three days, but the river flows to the Ohio so we had some help there. Another friend picked us up and drove us back to the Lock 7 area where I live. Jim's Seafood restarant is a Frankfort destination on the river. Thank you. God Bless and stay safe.
Highbridge/Wilmore I think is the best section of the river above lock 7. Thanks for posting this video brother this was fantastic. Hope you enjoyed the river.
I hope some day soon you can come back and take us through the Palisades, upstream from where you stopped. I've seen them in person from above, but only photos from the river.
Nothing like being out there on your own, you're on your own time you had don't have to please anyone but yourself, I live here on lake Cumberland I think they say it's got like a thousand miles of shoreline around it, I've spent many years camping and boating this lake is always just amazes me every time I go on it, always something different and beautiful as always, oodles of places where you can get a campground that's just right up the bank 30 ft or go around the bend and plenty of nice sandy beaches or giant rocks to build a camp on, I'm getting up in years and hate to be there by myself hard to find someone that has time to take loaf around, if you get a chance try lake Cumberland good deep blue water most of the time, enjoyed your video that is the first one I saw planning on looking for more thank you

That huge rock face is an old abandoned rock quarry in Frankfort. Large neighborhood on top with some great views, but there’s been a couple collapses just to the left of the houses you could see in that shot.
I've never been through a lock we don't need them in West Coast Florida. I got a brother that lives in Kentucky. I'll be checking out your spots someday bro. Keep adventuring!
As someone who has grown up on the Kentucky river, just near lock 8, I can tell you, you should always sleep on the boat! Also it’s always muddy! It’s where most of the rain water in eastern Kentucky goes to!
Hey guy, youtube Al Gore rythms brought your video up for me. I've been enjoying and will immediately subscribe. That maneuver at 9:20 had me on the edge of my seat. I broke a leg doing such a thing and the f***** took six months before I was outt've the cast. And then I was hobbled up for months. I ain't your mamma but listen up, look after yourself haha. You had my cringe alert on number 9.
Is the video mirrored at the start or are you driving a right-hand drive car? I thought I was watching something from Australia where I'm from. Nice light and scenery at 8:10 and the distillery at 28:28 is interesting. Great video!
Great question. I camped on a small shoal in the middle of the river but from what I can tell the banks are all private land. That said, it’s very rural farm land in most cases and I doubt you’d even be noticed. As long as you’re respectful, even if you were noticed, I can’t imagine anyone would much care.
@@thepathlesstraveled8194 Seems like perfect size boat b/c gives you option of sleeping on boat if needed and you don't have to worry about beaching too much b/c it's aluminum. 👍

You gotta worry about getting out on the bank on private property on the river. River people are sometimes insane meth heads. I’ve ran up on some wild characters on the river.
Found this after looking up skiffs to show my wife. We currently own a driveway tax burden “aka sailboat” and want to sell it to fund a river runner. We live in Frankfort. The Ohio river is superior in everyway but its a shame not to use ours when its right here. Ivd been here for 8 years and I really dont understand why the river isnt a focal point for recreation but it really isnt. I think the demographics here dictate that.
The RUclips algorithm sent me here. Excellent content good sir! Keep at it. I think you have something great!

Surprising how few boats, no boats, on such a beautiful river
It's a very rural area, plus the Ohio River isn't far, which is a lot bigger pull.
I love to watch ...a lot story and really enjoy your trip while learning on english listening

Awesome stuff dude
Thanks for showing me my backyard. I’ve never had the opportunity to fish Kentucky river or take a boat through it. Now I just need a boat lol
Thanks for the comments everyone. Getting a lot of questions about the type of boat. It is a G3 bay 18 DLX tunnel with a 115 Yamaha SHO
Good luck Matt.

There's locks on the east coast of Florida entering Port Canaveral on the banana river.
You also have to be really careful on the ride to lock 5. There are several very shallow spots.
If you at a lock on the Kentucky river, chances are, there’s a decent national forest campground nearby!
