- This isn’t about which Ford off-roader is better - it’s about whether a ute or an SUV is right for you 👉 Full Review: www.carsales.com.au/editorial...
The Ford Ranger has been carsales’ Best Dual-Cab 4x4 Ute for almost a decade and the latest generation set a new benchmark when it was launched in 2022.
But this is not another comparison with its arch-rival, the Toyota HiLux, nor its twin-under-the-skin, the Volkswagen Amarok.
This time we’re comparing Australia’s best ute with its seven-seat off-road SUV sibling, the Ford Everest, because our data shows many people cross-shop both models, so this is about highlighting the differences between the vehicles and what each one does better in popular Wildtrak form.
Both Australian-developed models are based on the same ladder platform and share the same V6 turbo-diesel and 4x4 driveline. But to help you decide which vehicle is right for you, we dig into the significant differences beyond their body styles.

The Everest is the true successor to the original Explorer. I wish we had it in America.
Yeah that's a fair call. It's a super impressive machine, on road and off road.
yes wish we had the Everest true low range ,as the new explorer is more mall mobile -cop car look
If Toyota finds room for a Highlander, Land Cruiser and a 4Runner.. maybe Ford may find room as well for the Explorer, Bronco and Everest.

We are caravan people and chose the Everest Platinum with AT tyres. Don’t like any sunroof but there wasn’t a choice. We bought it to tow a 3.5t van and are waiting for a gvm upgrade to become available just to be a little safer. For towing we wanted a shorter overhang between the rear axle and the hitch and the enclosed wagon form over having a dusty tub with a longer vehicle length. We could also have ordered a 300 cruiser but the price, waiting period and a GVM that looks worse than the Everest with two adults, a full tank and the max 350kg ball weight convinced us to go Everest instead with its impressive V6 power and torque.
Great comparison, will use this test definitely to decide. Thank you!
Most welcome. Glad we could help.
Great video!
As a comparison between 2 models it was very useful. I think a lot of people myself included would have liked to have seen a comparison between 2 tow vehicles, including more specifics. Towing a camper trailer is almost not a towing test for rated 3.5t tow vehicle. Thank you
Got the grey wildtrak Everest , it is so comfortable and quiet . Tows the boat very well.
Also hard the Ute wildtrak and raptor. I prefer the ride of the Everest
It would have been a much better comparision had you been supplied with an Everest with 18" and A/T tyres. Thanks for the content
Around the 8:30 mark where you mention rear AC in the Everest, it doesn’t have its own compressor. It has its own evaporator and fan, but it’s all run off the same compressor as the front AC
Quite right, we'll reprimand Feann 😆
You confirmed my choice. I ordered an Everest Unobtainium. Just wondering when it will turn up. 16 months and counting.
Everest is my choise❤
You CAN’T buy the Everest Wildtrak - it was unfortunately a limited run by Ford … very strange given it would sell very well
More supply is coming, Ford is planning to release another batch and may even make it a full time model in future, given how quickly the first lot sold out.

No, they limited to 800 and ford have said they aren’t getting any more.
Great video. Could you do a similar video for the Ranger and Everest Platinum model?
It's all the same shit bro just different seats
We'll pass on the request for sure. When we look at carsales internal search data, on Australia's largest automotive website, we're finding more and more than buyers are cross-shopping within the same brand.

Thank you for this review. I will soon be in the market for a large SUV, currently considering the soon to be released 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus G550. I was considering a Defender but after reading multiple reviews from actual owners have decided against that given the reliability issues, high servicing costs and extremely poor customer service. My first choice will be between the Toyota and Lexus but it is good to know should these be beyond my price limit then Ford offer a great SUV.
Thanks for the feedback. Always good to hear what car buyers are thinking.
Everest Wildtrak was not available with B&O sound system or matrix headlights or the fancy light switches in the roof like the Ranger.
Which one have softer suspension? For everyday and for off-road/bad road?
The Everest
Ford edge is gone in north america. i would love an Everest diesel to replace my aging Edge, the Explorer is way to big for my daily driver.
Someone should take the body of the Everest and weld it onto the cab of the ranger for a extra long full size Everest ranger!
Hmm 10 speed feels worn after 17000 klms. Not a great sign!
Journalist kilometres are like dog years. Multiply by seven 🤠 No mechanical sympathy from these testers.
nice we cant have diesel's in the U.S my pick is Everest please ford bring it to the U.S. as its a true off road wagon ,we have the explorer timberline , independent rear axle, soft road -mall wagon 2.3 4cyl. gas turbo @$49k U.S. same price as a Everest wildtrac
Can u explain why the wild track is being sold around 50k aud in china?
Not sure. Economies of scale perhaps. Can anyone else with knowledge of the China car industry chime in here?
That’s a totally different car. Set aside the left/right hand drive difference, the Chinese rangers have 2.3l ecoboost petrol or 2.3 puma diesels, paired with 8 speed transmission compared to our 10 speed. Lots of equipments are different too. Lastly, Chinese ticket price is usually not the driveaway price, you have to pay about 10% tax extra
@@SimonJ-lq8et Buddy I’d take the 2.3 diesel version all day at 50K. Aussie dealerships are charging 30-40K more for a outdated diesel engine and made in Thiland plastic man toys. Look, when I was working in china I drove my 150 K aud F150 raptor made in the USA , that was a proper truck to drive. How much is a F150 raptor in Australia? Oh no… don’t even have one. Ford Au is bullying hard working Aussies because they ain’t got no options
Everest because of the Boot easier to use ie shopping 🛒
Ute tub makes the Ranger much much more versatile. Ranger is still very comfortable and great to drive.
@@rickhambrook7860Rangers ride like a Russian tractor.
Ranger
What rubbish are you talking about the transmission not been good at 17000km.
How about a comparison between a Ranger driver and a shit driver? Oh yeah theyre one and the same
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahahahahahaha.
GOOD 1.
Hehe
Two big barges not suitable for suburban use...like most people are doing...What...cant find a parking space...what a joke...Fuel guzzling DINOSAURS !!!
Then don't buy one, problem solved.
I use the Everest daily in the city and it’s brilliant in every aspect, no different to a small car.
Utter rubbish and not all of us are cafe latte drinking suburbanites.
