    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Russian tortoises are small, terrestrial tortoises that are native to Central Asia. They are known for their hardy nature, digging and burrowing behavior, and herbivorous diet. Russian tortoises require a dry, warm enclosure with a basking spot and a hiding spot, and may experience health issues such as respiratory infections, shell rot, and digestive problems. They are adapted to survive in harsh, arid environments and are popular pets due to their small size, hardiness, and long lifespan.

    These animals are smart and make great listeners. Our tortoises had a difficult time when we first adopted them and after my kids wrapped them up in towels and talked to them & snuggled them - the tortoises really did seem to understand. Their behavior shifted after that and became a lot more confident. They are so curious and love coming out in the mornings to walk around our house. They are so sweet!

    I’ve had my Russian Tortoise for about 6 years now and he’s been my closest friend ever since. Great pet to have as a companion if you cannot afford to keep a dog or a cat. Cannot recommend more

      He or she will probably be a good friend to you for a long time to come 😊. They live until 50. Who knows what wonderful things we have then. Perhaps an AI system that can better interpret what he or she is feeling and wanting to communicate.

    Every family should have one. Ours is named "Smirnoff," like the vodka. You know, because he's Russian. 😁

      May, I ask.. Are they female or male? Are you keeping multiple males in one enclosure? I have a male currently, and Ive heard mixed things about keeping them together. Some people insist that a little fighting is healthy, and as long as they have a place to escape.. its okay. Some other people tend to say to avoid to male russians in the same enclosure at all costs.
      I am asking, because Id love another.. but I don't wanna stress out "Mr. T".
      Yes, that's his name. Mr. T

    • @kelleyrancher
      @kelleyrancher 4 месяца назад

      In the winter I keep them in the house just as regular I don't let them roommate some people put them in the refrigerator and let them roommate but that there is a certain system you have to do scale down and not feed them and all that and I don't want that I don't want to enjoy them so I have them in the winter just in their enclosure just as normal in the summer they're outside in the winter they're inside

      Its worth it. Just get a 5x2x2ft cage and youre fine. Bigger the better since they love to roam but 5x2x2 is max for one, just let it roam about your house and play around with it, give it enrichment, make it work for its food. You now just need to know its food list so research this and keep a list and look up its temps and youre good to go

    Hi,can a Russian tortoise use a nebulizer when they have a RI? Seeing how they live in dry climates

    Question: Can they choke on food?
    My understanding was most animals have different channels for breathing and eating. But mine seemed to be stuffing its mouth to much ( 0:30 ) lol...and was having obvious difficulty swallowing. Ultimately he was able to regurgitate the food, but it didn't look pleasant for him, and a cause for concern. Moving forward i minimize the size of food, but I'm still curious if this is something i should monitor. Thanks for any input.

      I personally think keeping an eye on your tortoise when he has a big plate of food is best. if he continues to choke on bites then please take him to a vet or call your local vet to see what they say as it could be a sign of respiratory infection. wish you and your tortoise all the best!

      Yes, u can however it's advised to use a spray bottle. Also don't over wet it as they aren't used to wet climates and prefer hot and humid

    • @Jinx-z2g

      Nope just dont spray them. They get their water from food and well, drinking water lmao. Spraying them can lead to respiratory issues
