I am a mother. I see people even looking weird to my son and I want to punch them. Imagine knowing that my son was ab*s*d to the level she was by this person and their family and that they have the nerve to now say "I'm a victim just like you..." I would feel like he's saying "I shouldn't have to apologize to you... I did nothing wrong... I was forced to... I am the victim here... Why are you blaming me as well? You should apologize for making me feel bad for being manipulated and lied to by this monster that had hurt you in the past... As a religious person (christo pagan, yes, that's a thing. People in my country were christo pagan until early 1920) I have never understood using religion as a weapon. To me, religion is very personal thing, I only talk about it more with people who are interested to talk about religions in general. I have never felt the need to try to convert anyone, because like I said, religion is a personal matter to me, I don't care what you believe in or don't believe, as long as You are respectful to others and their believes. Using religion to manipulate others is extremely gross and shows that those people aren't actually religious but just hide behind it and use it for their own personal gain. That's just vile to me .

Natalia is engaging in behaviors that could possibly been greatly reduced if she had been adopted by parents that would have gotten her therapy. Instead she was thrown in with two manipulative abusers and then these religious manipulators latched onto her for what I think is fame. That is what I think their motive is. But, yes. She is manipulative, in the same way police are often manipulative when they are interrogating people. In the way that abuse victims are sometimes manipulative. I also think that Natalie needs a lot of therapy and that these people she is currently with are not going to provide what she needs to get control of the anger and other negative feelings inside of her. If she doesn't get the proper help now, she probably will either end up abusing some other people or ending up in trouble with the law in some way in the future.

Also I don’t care that Michael NOW claims to be a victim of abuse because it suits his narrative. He had no problem interrogating Natalia, standing idly by while she was beat by his wife and her sons. Natalia is supposed to just sit there and be respectful while she takes what seems like a lie that Michael was a “victim” now because he wants to escape culpability? Because he wants to rescue his public image after he spent YEARS calling a child a sociopathic demented killer on his EX WIFE’s behalf?? Boooo! That take is wrong to me. Thank you so so freaking much. This video was starting to annoy me with the amount of victim, blaming and also I guess this is why he should continuously point out that he is not a therapist in any sense because along with body language, I feel like you should have some sort of Understanding of the human psyche because the fact that he’s disregarding why Natalia might be angry at the fact that her abuser literally is telling her oh all those years I watched my wife and sons abuse you and then I threw you on the streets and drug you through mud on social media and on national television as a child I was actually getting abused because my wife wouldn’t give it up That right there is a hard pill to swallow for a victim who was abused for 90% of their childhood and is still barely coming into adulthood. She has the right to be angry and she has the right to ask intrusive questions because he is using that situation as an excuse as to why he did the things that he did, also her father’s actions do not reflect on her so him saying what the bishop is doing is making Natalia look bad no, it’s making the bishop look bad, and I also kind of seen it as a scorned father and also asking someone not to cuss is not the same as asking someone to stop being Christian. I’m not religious and when I’m with my husband‘s mom, I never cuss because I understand that makes her uncomfortable it’s really not that big a deal, but back to Natalia, she was a child who was taken advantage of and harmed on a regular basis and got a lot of trauma can cause someone to grow up and not have healthy understandings of how to handle situations, and this video really showed that he is very highly unaware of that

This sit-down was a disaster from the get-go. I'm not saying Natalia shouldn't be allowed to have someone there with her for support but her support should be in the background, quiet, and not interfering. We heard more words from the bishop than from Michael and Natalia combined. The production should have set clearer goals for what they wanted from this conversation. This did nothing but create more of an emotional mess. It makes me wonder if there was just deceit from both sides but we won't know until there is a proper moderated conversation without someone yelling about God the entire time in the background.

I don’t believe it’s inappropriate for Natalia to ask those questions of Michael at all. He had the capacity to protect himself and could’ve tried to protect Natalia but he participated in her abuse. He had all sorts of options once he and his ex wife were living in separate countries. He wasn’t seeing his kids at that time anyway and wouldn’t for years, so he had plenty of opportunities to change Natalia’s living situation but he continued to go along with it all. Then went on to go along with the lie to make some money off the situation his family put onto a child.

Ok, so jumping ahead and commenting before I've watched yet, but having dwarfism myself and knowing a number of people with SED personally, and having a type of it myself...regardless of what the *exact* age of Natalia was when adopted, she was without a doubt a young child, and abandoned by her adoptive parents as them too. SED is not a condition where the person remains looking young. Despite being shorter and having some different physical features than that of her peers, she would still look like a teen/adult once puberty hit. Sure, she might get carded every so often if she goes to a bar now she's in her 20s, but the bouncer is going to question it by a couple of years, perhaps. Not decades. Yes, there are types of dwarfism where the person does have more 'childlike' features, even as an adult, but SED is not one of these. One of the main features being a shorter torso and longer limbs. The majority of other features change alongside the rate of their peers. It breaks my heart how she has been treated by her original adopted family.

Well she was severely abused as a child, but not only was she abused, but she dealt with the worst thing a child could, which is growing up knowing that now one, not a single human being, gave a single shit about if she lived or died, which is so much more detrimental than anything else you can do to a child. Abuse, it is traumatizing, but you can heal with loved ones supporting you. But this girl had severe abuse, neglect, that did not even have to be HIDDEN from the world. To this day you still have grown ass men out here shaming her, for “being manipulative” when confronting one of her abusers who continued to throw her under the bus and pretend she was some evil person that deserved it, pretend she was an adult con artist despite admitting he thought she was a child to the detective, while being filmed in national television and also try to keep her only perception of “family” on her side while doing this, AND trying to make people see at least SOME truth after these people manipulated the world into hating her and seeing her as a real life monster.
So even if she WAS being “manipulative”… ok? I’m sure her goal WAS to get people to like her after what she has been through. Who cares! We KNOW she was a child this whole time, we KNOW she was abused, nothing else matters, because we KNOW factually that the Barrett’s lied about her and destroyed her life. So idc if she was “ manipulative” or not, because she was still a victim and had every right to confront that grown ass fool.

The Indiana Superior Court have the Xrays of her teeth from this visit and dental report showing she had Adult teeth. A month after Barnetts consented to adopt her ..... Barnett's last dental exam they took Natalyah too was in January 2012 and Xrays of teeth came back with her having all 32 teeth and wisdom teeth as well... at supposedly 8 years old her age had not been amended yet .....
At 8 years old supposedly Natalyah had all 32 teeth in January 2012
Natalyah last bone density scan age estimation was done by endocrinologist Doctor JC Howell in February 2012 her bo e age estimation came out between 14 thru 17 years but he also put in his report Natalyah had *Tanner1: Breasts and Tanner2: Pubic Hair* That it did not seem to be precocious puberty or ore ardrenarch because Natalyah hormone levels were normal .... That Natalyah is a disproportionate dwarf born with growth plates abnormalities and her bone age lags behind her chronological age by 4 years or more and her bone structure will never grow like a average sized person.... A bone age estimation will not give a accurate age estimation for her .... And Natalyah appears to be a lot older than 8 yrs old.
It was these last 2 Doctor and Dental Exams the Court Judge went by and including her actual birth certificate from the Civil Registry Office of the City Natalia was born which affirmed her birthdate September 04 1989 reason why Judge changed her birth certificate to reflect its' correct birthdate September 04 1989..... In June 2012.
Natalyah had pubic hair, adult teeth, breasts and a monthly cycle about time Barnetts got her the apartment and her birth certificate was amended to reflect her correct birth age

She's absolutely right to be angry because Michael has been playing the victim the entire time and not being accountable to his involvement. This was probably very hard for her to do and yet she was more mature than Michael, the bishop and the attorney. She deserves answers and Michael should have been able to put his own feelings to the side and give them to her.

Victims aren’t perfect just because they have been victimized. They can still be petty, manipulative, untrustworthy, and bad people. Calling out bad behavior shouldn’t be avoided just because she’s a victim, otherwise they never grow or learn from mistakes. And Natalia is still young. She’s got a lot of growing up and healing to do. I don’t think pointing out negative traits takes away from her experience. Considering she's been firstly raised around the man baby Michael and then secondly around some religious tool is it any surprise she's probably not adjusted quite right? Natalia doesnt have to consider Michael feelings at all. He was an adult and she was a child during their whole interactions. Trying to understand why a grown man let her be abused seems to be quite fair, and having zero genuine emotion given her background almost seems inevitable.

This felt really offensive as a fellow child abuse survivor. Difficulty with emotional regulation is super common! That’s not manipulation. Being angry, going to sobbing, and going straight back to being angry is normal feelings to have when facing your abuser! I never would ask a stranger or friend even why they never left their abuser but I most definitely asked my mom that given she knew what happened to me. So, that’s a pretty fair question to ask her first adoptive father. I agree that the religion aspect is manipulative though. Though Christian’s took advantage of my abuse history to lure me in before realizing years later what it was. I’m not saying Natalia is a saint or did everything right. But to call her emotions manipulative? Are you for real? That’s classic abuse survivor 101. Especially cause they likely have PTSD and their body is going between fight, flight, and freeze so rapidly.

Putting aside the absurdity of the production and editing, her new father’s obnoxious and immature behavior, and the obvious staging of ridiculous moments, the burden of maturity and forgiveness are not hers. At all. In any direction. Full stop.
Natalia doesn’t owe Michael her patience, compassion, or understanding. He was an ADULT who adopted her as a SMALL CHILD, literally abandoned her, and has spent YEARS deriding her on international television. If this is their first sit down, she owes him ZERO. You don’t get to demand understanding and forgiveness without ever even apologizing. I didn’t hear “I’m sorry” anywhere in that first utterance
from him - if he wanted to build rapport, he should’ve started there. I truly don’t care if he was a victim in his marriage - when you choose to become a parent, your issues don’t come before your child. Ever. He’s decades older than her and knew better when she was still a small child completely deserted in an apartment by herself. I cannot imagine how frightening it was for her at eight years old to be so utterly alone. She owes him zero appropriate questions. I’m all for meeting half way, but not when the original victim was a helpless child and the original victimizer was a full grown man.

It's a terrible coping mechanism, but if it's the only thing you had that worked then it sticks around a lot longer than it should once you're safe. I know it's something I've had to work hard at for twenty years now, and it may never entirely go away.

Natalia spent her formative years being emotionally neglected. She will never respond to situations in the “normal expected manner”. Being an emotional and easy going in the orphanage would make her more attractive to workers attention and adoptive family attention. Children raised in orphanages from birth are most often 1-3 yrs behind in their normal developmental achievements. DNA and dental exams all confirmed her age with8n 1-2 yrs. This family reared her far behind that range to an age they thought would eliminate their financial responsibilities for her. That is no accident. She was a child abandoned in a dangerous situation on her own. It’s amazing she hasn’t ended up on a wore situation. The bishop who caring for her may be also exploiting her, but that is his decision not hers.

While it might seem faked it could be part of the freeze shut down reaction that people with cptsd have followed by an understanding that while we are safe we are allowed that emotional response of crying. I know I do it and it isn’t a manipulation it is me desperately trying to link our traumatized brain with my emotions but they just can’t work together. If it is NEVER safe to react and have emotions it gets confusing trying to be a healthy human as an adult because those emotions show up but not necessarily in a good way(Gabor Mate has pointed out the link to autoimmune disorders even).

@@welsh.truth.dragon3914 Just imagine that you are 7 years old and you live in a house where your adoptive mother, much taller than you, is beating you, while she calls your 3 brothers and they start beating you between 3 or 4 people and you are a little girl, short and disabled, and that this happens several times a week + other types of punishments, like standing for more than 8 hours against a wall when you have problems in your body, and then at 8 years old they send you to live alone and leave you alone, in a place full of adults and dangers without protection. Do you really think she's pretending to cry? Sometimes you just cry so much after so many traumas that you have nothing left even when your body and mind want to cry and especially when you are full of rage, because no one pays for what they did to you.

Please do more because this is definitely one of the stories that really everyone gives me a feeling of suspicion. I'm curious to delve into whether each person's manipulation seems to come from different origins. Michael strikes me as manipulative over all, and the (ex)wife from what little I've seen also seems pretty delusional and manipulative. However, my biggest question is does Natalia display these manipulation techniques because of her reactive attachment disorder due to cptsd and display some borderline personality traits due to her truama. Or, is there something else at play? A huge thing missing from the documentary is honestly deep dives with psychologists, psychiatrists, and medical providers discussing her condition as well as developmental development.

the part where antwon mans (natalias new adopted father) yelled 'cause that devil is a liar" etc and all the other yelling parts was Sooooo very obviously spliced in though. He obviously didnt say that on the doorstep where Michael could here them. You could tell the random tone and audio quality shifts too. Go watch it again and its VERY obvious. This was definitely done by production and i wouldnt be surprised if production asked them to do the pep talk to begin with just so they COULD splice in these other moments (or hoping he would be more outspoken in front of Michael, but willing to splice it in if not)

I do want to point out that given Michael Barnett’s son is autistic, there is a good chance that he is also autistic. Let’s not hold up neurotypical standards of communication as the only right way. Of course, you can be autistic AND manipulative, or autistic AND a bad person, but I’m just trying to keep communication/ emotional processing differences in mind.
So often, autistic people’s responses/reactions are perceived as “fake” or “forced” by neurotypical people and “body language experts” and they don’t once consider that some people just express themselves differently.

    • @corarose999
      @corarose999 4 месяца назад +2

Underrated comment. I was confused because I passively thought that he reminded me of my own dad’s behavior before he started healing a lot of his unhealthy coping mechanisms before he was diagnosed with autism; I had no idea his son was on the spectrum. That would make so much sense. His behavior is inexcusable, but it’s almost so outlandish that it’s hard for me to believe that a genuinely successful, manipulative person would choose the route he’s taking. His odd response of immediately taking many things she says out of context and inappropriately literally is so reminiscent to me of my dad. Additionally, the way he fails to recognize her emotional state and meet her where she’s at instead of constantly trying to change the narrative to fit his personal idea of context also speaks to a poor "sympathy strategy" on his part. It’s all odd, and I think there’s more to him than it seems there is, but in so many different ways.

I would really like to point out Natalia might have cptsd which changes our responses. Add in these traumas happened as a child which can actually affect the brain structure. What look likes manipulation can be this intense disconnect between our brains, bodies, and emotions. As a child I learned really young to not react or have emotions. As an adult in therapy I am desperately trying to link everything up and know my ability to pick people to be in my life is not good. What people might see as manipulation by Natalia could very well just be cptsd.

I am a psychologist and one thing I want to note that I never hear anyone speak on, is I believe Michael has Autism. His son has it and I believe it came from Michael's side. Some of those emotional immaturity or over the top emotions I believe are connected to that. Now I do not know Michael, obviously, and only see him displayed on TV. I am not sure how he is normally and whether or not he is playing it up for sympathy/control. Also, you can have Autism and still be a jerk. So I'm not saying this is an excuse for him. I just never hear anyone mention this. It sees pretty clear to me he displays symptoms.

Around 10:40 minutes in the bishop said "that devil's a liar. A complete liar." Which suggest that he was likely targeting Michael specifically with that statement. However, we can tell there was a cut right before that, suggesting that it may have been edited by the production company, usually given how it pans to Michael during that audio. So to be fair, there was likely a sentence or two missing before that. Especially given that the production seems to be trying to make this into a dumpster fire.

Michael's outbreak is the most manipulative part of this whole thing. I've seen it so many times with my own abusers. He wants pity for what he did to Natalia when in all reality, he was one of the monsters. She was a child. As a survivor of both child abuse and DV, there is no excuse. Zero. He is just as guilty as his wife for ruining that little girl then throwing her in an apartment to fend for herself. How they both aren't in prison is beyond me.

    ...Logan, really?
Natalia says "All I wanted to do was talk to him" & you call her a liar?
I believe she really did just want to talk to him but michael and the bishop made it impossible for her to have a normal conversation.
Her own feelings from the trauma of abuse & betrayal of a person who had the power to help, but didn't, would make it challenging & confusing to navigate a conversation like this - especially with someone like Michael.
Yes, she is angry & attempting to consciously or subconsciously control the situation -
The trauma she suffered in which she had no control to leave the situation or speak up for herself & this is supposed to be her time to finally get answers & makes sense of Michael's ability to be complicit in her abuse.
Michael is also someone who is unwilling to give an honest straight answer - His reason for being there isn't to help Natalia, but to make the world believe he's a good guy.
I would imagine tactics (manipulation) would be needed to hold a basic conversation with him just to get some semblance of an answer.
I understand you're not a psychiatrist - but did you watch the full series ( to better psychoanalyze all parties behavioral patterns) or did you just pick a few sensational scenes to analyze ?
