    Another great episode Magnar. Thank you so much for making these episodes. I hope the RUclips algorithm picks one of your videos and recommends it to everyone and you suddenly get a lot of subscribers. When I watch other aviation channels i always put your channel name in the comments and recommend others to go watch your videos, because it makes me sad seeing that you put in so much work into these amazing videos and yet the views and subscriber count is so low which is not fair to you, you should have had easily over 100,000 subscribers by now. I will keep doing whatever i can to help you grow because I truly enjoy your videos and i only found your channel after mentour pilot mentioned it during one of his air crash explanation video's. Stay safe and healthy my friend.

      Thank you so much for your support! The algorithm is a mystery for most youtubers, and I'm still waiting for it to kick in like an afterburner. Until then, I will make sure there will be enough content to satisfy as many as possible.

    Incredible how high energy they were on the initial approach there, over 1000 ft too high and still at 250kt indicated, with over 50kt of tailwind... All at only 14 nmi from the threshold.

    The today-problem is that pilots do not fly the airplane. They just manage the systems which can even be contradictory.
    If you are so much above the glideslope there is no possibility to land safe. So go around and try it again. But even the go around here is not well performed and ends up in a STALL-configuration. Why? There was no need for.

    19:27 I believe they haven't set the go around altitude as they did not captured the glide. I'm not sure if our procedure in ATR is the same in Airbus where we only set the goaround altitude after GS*

    The reason they havent select the go around altitude is because they havent capture the Glideslope.. they should cater for tailwind n lower the gear/flap earlier..rule of thumb 3xtrk mile to get rough idea..

    Great content as usual, but I have a couple of questions:
    - Why they did not land, or directed by the controller to land in RWY 23? that would have been on the ATIS, I understand that RWY 23 has no ILS or approach procedure but this does not mean they cant land on it.
    -Usually the TOD is constantly calculated with the FMS, taking into consideration the wind condition and ground speed, so why it is wrongly calculated and causing a high energy situation?
    Thanks Captain, and keep up the good work.

    Good Day Capt Magnar, on your Video 3:36 stated we should stayed inside one dot during final approach... What do you mean exactly one dot? Is it a distance between yellow centerline and left/right dot or distance between one dot on left side to right side cross over yellow centerline?

    Wow… I’m just a simple simmer, but… To me the vertical & speed situation already at 14 DME seems wrong, not to say at 6 or 4 DME. And a stipulated tail wind component above 20 knots…?
    I wouldn’t even have dared to land this in MSFS… 😅

    Does the baby bus have Vertical profile available in the bottom 1/3 of the ND ? Would it have helped with situational awareness ?

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  2 года назад +4

      The A318 was produced from 2001 to 2013. According to information I have, the vertical profile was introduced on the A320 family some years later.

    Hello Magnar. One question. Why did the crew approach the airport so far above the glide slope? Already 14 and more miles away they were way too high, or higher than normal. So right away , they were in a difficult position. Another excellent upload. Thank you.

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  2 года назад +2

      The main answer is loss of situation awareness. A contributing factor was a strong tailwind.

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  2 года назад +6

      Activation of alpha floor is a serious incident. It happened because the flight crew had lost track of what the airplane was doing.

    Seriously questioning the training of AF pilots. On 28th March 2012 an A320 encountered a false glideslope caused by a 737 blocking the signal and caused the plane to descended steeply. The pilots aborted approach but only moved thrust levers to MCT and ended up causing the Alpha Floor to activate when speed reached 121 knots

    • @EeekiE
      @EeekiE 2 года назад

      There’s also the AF captain and F/O that disabled Alpha Floor protection for an airshow to show how good the Alpha protection was and then killed two children.
      Or the AF F/O that ignored the rest of his instruments and his Captain after a blocked pitot tube and commanded full pitch up and a near stall all the way down to the sea. When the captain told him to stop it so a last ditch effort to recover the situation could be attempted by gaining some air-speed he finally released pressure on the side stick. Briefly. His last few moments consisted of him again trying to pull up further stalling the plane and driving the nail into the coffin of the recovery effort, along with his own and everyone else’s watery grave.
