    I made a mistake with the drum test track. This is the correct one.
    www.discogs.com/Various-Usher-The-Diamond-Revolution-/release/7085659
    The video was really long already so there are many things I did not touch on. For example, the singer mouth position is actually a bit higher than what I am used to comparing to other speakers. One day, I hope to film their studio and check out their other speakers. They do have dealers worldwide, reach out to them if you would like more info.

    • @hansiangng2808
      @hansiangng2808 4 года назад

      I also came across tracks (ie Speak Softly, Love) which the mouth position is slightly higher or off center. I wonder if that was how it was mixed. But it seems to change with the distance/height i sit from the speakers, or the speakers placement itself.

    • @itamarkas
      @itamarkas 4 года назад

      Thomas & Stereo I really like higher mouth position, I listened the Gauder Acoutics lately and they immerse the vocal bit higher from what I use to and it sounds more realistic to me. Very enjoyable.

    What a great video Thomas! I really enjoyed your description of sound stage and imaging and the explanation at the end about the bass trap was fascinating. You make a really good point here too, perhaps better than most reviewers, in that the room plays such an important part of the system, it cannot be discounted. It is frustrating to read comments from audiophiles with far better access to nice equipment than I do, arguing that one fancy speaker is better than another without any consideration to the space in which the speakers will be used and in which they need to create this holographic sound stage we crave. A great engineer once said,”You cannot change the laws of physics “ and he was absolutely right! Thanks again for the food for thought, great review.

I was lucky enough to hear these and a few other Gershman models in person at a few audio shows. Every time I've had the pleasure of hearing Gershman's, I've liked it. At audio shows, you're inundated by products. Room after room you dodge in and dodge out. It takes something special to stand out and be memorable. I can count on one hand gear at each show that stuck with me. When I first heard the Focal Uptopia back in the mid 90's, that was one that stuck with me. People were going ga-ga over the Wilsons. Meh. Gershman is another. Interestingly, Focal and Gershman have similar goals, but each find an organic sound in very different ways. I'll stick with my Focal Kanta's for now. I did just blow my wad on a new Lexus - kind of a roundabout way to get a Mark Levinson sound system, but you gotta do what you gotta do! 😄

    Great review. I have Gershman Avant Garde. I have tried it with my Plinius SA 102, Audio Research 150m.2 and Nakamichi Stasis PA5 amps. I also have Plinius M16 and PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium preamps. It works best with Plinius SA 102 and PrimaLuna. I guess my Gershman would sound better with even higher caliber amp, but I wonder how much better then Plinius SA 102.
    For many other speakers I had, I normally do not go over 12 o'clock volume level, but for Gershman, I set 1 ~ 2 o'clock level. Yes, I listen to music loud. Even more powerful amp (200+ Watts) might perform better. Not cheap class D amps, but high quality class A or class AB amps.

Please could you expand on this? All the best Peter

    Haha! I like the way you described the way the musician's sounded by using books and teddy's. Must admit Thomas I'm not sold with the looks of these speaker's. I want my speakers to blend into my room and Focal speakers would fit nicely for me. Judging by the sound demo these speaker's sound the biz but so do many at that price and lower. Try the Spendor D9's which would be a wee bit less in price but have a sensational sound, look lovely and I think you'll love them. Nice wee review.

    Thomas, great videos, really enjoy your channel and approach to presenting and reviewing products. I'm leaning towards these GAGs in what I hope will be my last speaker purchase. I budgeted up to $20k, and these check off the price box as well as some of the important characteristics I'm looking for (musicality, bass, nice top end, imaging). I want to pair an amp that will bring out the best in these...would you recommend the Bel Canto monos, Hegel, Bryston, Pass Labs? At 89db and 6ohm, want to make sure they get some power. Currently have a tube preamp (Rogue RP7), but open to a system pairing that works best. I have an opportunity to listen to these at someone's home in the US, and he has them paired with a powerful PS Audio amp (another option). I'd love to know your thoughts on what paired well. Thanks and keep the videos coming!

    You can have the best stereo speakers for creating a nice sound stage, but if you don't have dedicated listening room, and you place one speaker near a corner, the other somewhere in the middle. ( like in mine and a lot of other living rooms ), you can forget about soundstage... I have heard my Kanta nr3's at the dealer in a big demo room and a lot of music was perfectly balanced ( singer in the middle for example ). Here in my living room, 1/3 the size of the dealer demo room, placement for from ideal, and the imaging is totally distorted, singers are always off center when I close my eyes.
    Additionally, a lot of music isn't properly recorded too, so I stopped focusing on imaging and soundstage. I now focus on how real the instruments sound, compared to real instruments in my room :) ( f.e. a guitar )

    I'm looking at it and: they try to time align tweeter and midrange. The baffle is covered with sound absorbing material. They should image very well. Bass trap - interesting. Is the bass driver working in closed box or different kind of loading. Distortions should be low if you the spkrs can pushed and voiced more naturally.
    BTW how do you like Sima Audio - I remember when it was owned by Victor Sima from Montreal, before he sold the name. He designed inexpensive Celeste series liked by many. Then the new owners/designers came with high end Moon series.

    #Thomas&Stereo I use Focal Studio Monitors for my music production and mixing. Now I can say that besides these Focal monitors, I prefer Barefoot Studio Monitors, but many of my peers love ATC Studio Monitors, PMC, Oceans Way, Genelec, etc. I keep coming back to the Focal's for their definition in the top end. But, the low's are always the hardest to mix correctly in music.... from a mixers standpoint and recording standpoint in general! Reproducing the low end on any speaker takes more effort to get it done correctly! It's simple physics, bass is bigger than mid's or treble! There's more information there so it's harder to reproduce, or it takes more energy to reproduce it correctly! If these speakers do have a more hifi/3d dimension within the lower register, then I am very interested in trying them out! However, not listing the price, where to buy them, etc. is disheartening to the extreme! Bad practice for any company to do this! I hate it when they do that! As WTF? Is it FREE if it has no price? Does simply not putting a price on something make it only for the exquisite folks? I don't want to waste my time and make the extra effort to find out how much these studio monitors are(they do make 2 pair)if it's going to be a shit ton of money! PMC just came out with $130,000 studio monitors....And I will never be able to afford them! Ever! I'm ok with that! But I need to have about 3k invested in speakers to do my job correctly! Can I do it as well on speakers that do not reproduce the frequencies I need to work??? Yes, but it will take me a year to do it! I need it done in 1 day or less, as time is money! Less time I spend working, the more time I can work on something else! That means more money to pay my outrageous bills each month! So...good speakers are very important for my work! And the low end is always very hard to reproduce without subwoofer, and integrating a subwoofer is easier said than done!!!! AS that comes with it's own problems as well!

    Dear Thomas, have you thought that the two speakers that you have liked the most so far (PMC DB1 and the Gershman) have the same tweeter? It is not a mere coincidence. It is a very neutral and natural tweeter, which after seeing several of your videos, seems to be a feature that you really appreciate. You make very good reviews. Kind regards from Argentina.

    Where Focal's are a bit bent forward, the Gershman's are bent backwards. I'm a Kanta 2 owner, and still 3 years in, can't decide what path to take for upping my amplification. Leaning towards tubes
