I miss Boris Yeltsin! He was unpredictable and a drunk, but at that time everyone thought Russia was a friend to be. On a state visit to Norway he stood between Gro Harlem Bruntland (the PM) and Queen Sonja. He held them between his arms and said two words in Russian "raspberry and cream" looking at the Queen and the PM. Classic 😂 You can see the footage on YT
Weird choice of stamps on the envelope at 11:03 so the nerd in me kicked in, to the max. Remembered that in my childhood days I had seen all of them in my collection. First stamp to the left is a stamp from the Netherlands with Queen Beatrix, issued in 1981. Second is a Norwegian stamp with King Olav V from 1956. Third is a stamp from Great Britain with Queen Elisabeth II. Hard to tell which year it is due to obstruction of the value on the stamp but either from 1967 or 1971. The last is a Norwegian stamp with King Haakon VII from 1950.
We have a good relationship with the Russian people, not with it's current leader.Norway is a big supporter of Ukraine (like it or not.) We have a lot of Ukranian refugees here.
I have not any good relationship with Russians, but can understand people along the border can have some relationship.
I suppose that Norway has tried to be neutral towards Russia for far longer than the other nordics have. Russia keeps overstepping though, so the relationship is pretty strained right now. Especially in the north. Mostly because Norway's history with Russia is very complex. On one hand, Russia helped liberate Northern Norway from the Nazis. On the other hand many Norwegians had just volunteered in the Winter War where Russia was trying to invade and occupy Finland. The Russians have been hungry for Norwegian terretory since after WWII and they use the same 'up is down' kind of rhetoric about it as they do towards Ukraine. So it makes many Norwegians feel unsafe. They are also allegedly responsible for sabotaging several cables between mainland Norway and Svalbard. When norway gained sovereignty over Svalbard, Russia signed off on it along with other countries. But now they are using similar tactics there as they have been using to prep other regions for annexation, only a little more weak-ass than the other places. I guess they know in the back of their minds that attacking NATO territory isn't the smartest thing to do. Maybe they think that NATO won't respond if they try or something. I think they are just keeping their options open.
Boris Yeltsin is channeling Zach Efron, Bet On It from High School Musical at the beginning of "Push the Button"
hahah, spot on!
this a dark fkin episode man x)
They never came close to actually push the button, as they would need more than just ONE launch. But yes they prepared for it! As they should.
As for your question on how many warheads Norway has:
Zero. The official number is zero.
The official policy is also that no foreign warheads are allowed in Norwegian waters, airspace or territories. Officially, of course.
It's very much a case of don't ask, don't tell with our american cousins.
Norway has in fact signed a worldwide ban on nuclear arms, so that's our official stance; in peacetime. The norwegian defensive policy is minted on the nuclear weaons of our allies as it's backbone, but they may not transit them through norwegion teritory; in peacetime. If article 5 in Nato treaty is called all bets are off.
Thanks !
the US has had a lot of similar situations where the nuclear ''button'' has been nearly pushed, the tension between the countries during the cold war was immense, you obviously haven't felt it, I don't know how old you are but if you grew up during the 80s early 90s you felt that the world was a button-push away from being a post apocalyptic hell, and the amount of warheads both countries had at that time was enough to leave it inhabitable, luckily we're all still here
There were Northern Lights in Oslo not too long ago. Maybe 4-5 weeks ago.
Edit : you visited Oslo recently. So you may have had the opportunity to see it... In hindsight. There were several days around then that had northern lights.
Norway doesn't have any nuclear weapons. The relationship with Russia has been strained but never really bad.
Norway is member of NATO so we cant be totaly free from nuclear. We dont store missiles on our sole but we do have som for sience use only.
As a tourist i would go to Stegastein
Mikke Mus
Did you have to ask, Norway has 0
You😂press the wrong buttons!
Where? When? 😮

Russian relations are better compared with most of our other neighbors, as we share a lot of the Barents sea and fishing resources has always been our key discussion subject, but Norway has of course called Russia's invasion of Ukraine out at many occasions and supply Ukraine with a ton of money and weapons, It's tough to in one way having to keep relations with them regarding coast and fishing/svalbard conflicts, and at the same time go hard on them when it comes to their occupational plans
In 1983 we where secounds from a nuclear war. Because of a fail in the warning systems in the Sovjet Union. But because of a really cold headed Sovjet officer we are still here. :)

Imagine having a drunk monkey with nuclear power in his hands as a neighbour
Jeltsin was drunk most of the time... You figure why this happened
Not be honest the coastal road is boring in my mind
Yeltsins nei.
Russia is not our enemy. Nato is (the corrupt NATO that we have today). Russia helped Norway during WWII, and we have debt to pay.
🎯🎯🎯
Russia is not a friend to Norway. Russia did not help Norway during the war. most of the soviet soldiers who entered finnmark were ukrainians. so we have a debt we are paying is to give ukraine weapons to defend itself. from Russia.
You drunk?!???
