  • Here's a demo of how you could cut a tubular pin spanner (wrench/socket, I forget what they're called exactly) using the rotary axis on the fiber laser. I'm just doing it in aluminium for quickness.
First, each tooth is cut with a U-shaped path. This is done using EzCad's own rotary marking plugin "Rotary Marking2/AngleRotate2" (the one that lets you tell it to mark a specified number of times around a full rotation).
Then, I'm cutting a short line and moving the rotary manually to nibble away the pieces between the teeth so they fall away.
I'm using my Sherline CNC rotary axis along with the original stepper driver that is in the laser.
    Laser specs:
    60W JPT M7 + 112x112mm lens
    1000mm/s 90% 41kHz 200ns
    Wobble 0.5x0.03

Besides being super cool, what's the advantage over milling?

Just using the tools to hand ;-)
