Great vid. Two of the greats for sure. The strap is a perfect match for Seiko diver fans. Also the endmill looks like best matched bracelet for the turtle.
I love my srp777. Wear it everywhere, mountain biking, spearfishing, office, and home. Keeps nearly perfect time, varying only about 5 to 10 seconds a month. For the first month or two it was slow however, off at least 10 seconds a day.
Bruce Williams I too have been wearing the SNZF every day all day this summer in the ocean, waterfalls, lakes, in the garden, when barbecuing etc, but always wanted the srp777 which will be my next watch. These watches are true working men's watches.
The perfect combination. I have the SBDC053 (blue dial). I just ordered an SRP777. You can't go wrong with these two watches and it is a must for any Seiko fan. Well done Bruce for the nice and simple presentation !
Pibbles 'n Bits It is a personal preference. I chose the blue one because the black color is very common and all of my watches are black. The blue is fantastic and you get different reflections according to lighting conditions. However you can't go wrong with any of these. The accuracy is superb, +0.5 s/d.
Sounds like a win. I already got a blue tuna and am on the fence on getting another blue Seiko.. The blue sings to me but logically the black would make more sense.
This video got me to buy Seiko SBDC053, the blue dial one, I added a blue plush suede Weston strap and a deployant clasp from eBay and it’s a great watch, I love it, thank you.
I have the SPB053 and SRP777. I love the SPB053 Blue dial, sapphire coated dome cystal, upscale square indices, zaratsu polish and amazing accuracy is too good for its price. I love SRP777 near identical reissue to 1976 6309, amazing diver which is an everyday tool watch. I have spb053 on a Hirsch performance Robby Blue strap and srp777 on a Hirsch Ranger brown leather strap. These 2 are my fav seiko dive watches at the moment.
Thank you for this!! I owned and heavily modified an SRP777 and parted with it because I just felt it was too large for my liking. It seems I run into that every time I get a Seiko diver these days. Would you say that the SBDC051 wears larger or smaller?
Nice video Bruce. I think with your knowledge and enthusiasm you could afford to take more time and go a bit more in-depth. I must find somewhere to try on the SBDC051 to see if it suits my 6.5" wrist. What's your wrist size BTW?
I used to do longer vids but from my analytics most people only watch till the 3 minute mark. I shoot for 5-6 minutes and can cover most aspects of the watch
I have a 6.5/6.75 wrist depending on the weather and I enjoy the wrist presence of the sbdc051. It's definitely a modern fitting watch with its size. Might be hard to wear under cuffs but I don't use it with a suit anyway. I actually enjoy the size, the dial is easy to read with my aging eyesight. I came from a gmt ii so there was a slight adjustment period to its size. This is a modern tool watch.
Bruce I have a question for you, since you own both the MarineMaster 300 and the SBDC053 how do these compare as far as fit and finish and how comfortable are they to wear. I know the movement alone takes the MM300 to a different level, so that's not part of the equation. I'm toying with buying one or the other,. I love the looks of both but I'm not sure the MM300 is going to be comfortable with the high case it has, it kind of looks top heavy? I have a fairly large wrist, 8" so I think I could pull it off, but since you have both maybe to could weigh in.
Hi Bruce, I bought a turtle when they came out (based on your review) and I LOVE it. I recently took it to a beach that had very very fine sand and my bezel is now jammed up. I want to remove it to clean it (this would also be a great chance to insert my ceramic bezel insert). I am not sure if I am being too delicate with it but I am having a hard time getting it off. All I need to do is stick a knife between the bezel and the case and start prying, correct? Thanks in advance!
Question - I have the srp777 turtle (4 o'clock crown) and it is very comfortable. I tried a Samurai and it felt a little big, plus the 3 o'clock crown dug into my hand some when I flipped it up. Can anyone comment on how the SBDC051 wears compared to the Turtle and Samurai?
Both awesome watches. Owned the Turtle before but decided to size "down" to something that wears smaller on the wrist. Currently rocking the Tuna and might consider getting that unique NATO, even though I'm not really a fan of NATOs in general.
Excellent short video Bruce great job as always . I like to pose a question , I am relatively new to watch collection world and love Seiko divers. I currently have an SkX 007 and a Orient Ray II blue dial. I like to pull trigger on any one of the following three : black sumo , 777 turtle or step up a little and get the 051 . I have a 7inch wrist.... I feel sumo may wear big and can't find anywhere to try one on. In any event your videos are really informative and I have enjoyed them very much keep up the good job!
Which Seiko diver is best for a small wrist? Seems the SKX but I think it looks cheap. All the more up market watches like the turtle or sumo are huge! Any ideas?
Bruce Williams thanks for the reply. That sla017 looks great but bit steep like you said. I have the SARB035 and it's a great watch and good size. Love the channel btw. I like the watches you review and you give a good view of the watches. Only thing I would say is missing are the dimensions. No need for calipers but mentioning them would be handy. Cheers
Yeah, Seiko is killing it in the under $1000 diver category. And finally -- sapphire crystal on the SBDC051! Maybe, just maybe they are starting to realize that no matter how proud they are of Hardlex, the competition is now routinely using sapphire which can't cost more than a few dollars more to produce and is preferred by watch enthusiasts by a huge margin. I can see myself being very tempted by these 62mas updates as they come down the price curve. Now over to WCWC to get me one of these nifty NATOs as I already own all four of the watches reflected in the cool graphics. How could I not?
I tried on the turtle and it just looked and felt odd on my wrist, while the vintage turtle looked and felt perfect! I have yet to try the 62 reissue, I LOVE the shiny bezel insert 😛
Bruce Williams nope, it's bigger, and not only that, they left the dial the same size and increased the size, so you have more space until the dial reaches the chapter ring, and then the chapter ring is more horizontal then on the original, to make up for the increased size, and that is the thing that bothered me the most, as on the original the chapter thing is very vertical and the dial is more in balance with the size of the case
Great vid. Two of the greats for sure. The strap is a perfect match for Seiko diver fans. Also the endmill looks like best matched bracelet for the turtle.

Love to hear people use their Seikos all the time
Bruce Williams I too have been wearing the SNZF every day all day this summer in the ocean, waterfalls, lakes, in the garden, when barbecuing etc, but always wanted the srp777 which will be my next watch. These watches are true working men's watches.
Completely agree

Congrats on the 053- so sharp!
Which is nicer 051 or 053? They both look so good!
Pibbles 'n Bits It is a personal preference. I chose the blue one because the black color is very common and all of my watches are black. The blue is fantastic and you get different reflections according to lighting conditions. However you can't go wrong with any of these. The accuracy is superb, +0.5 s/d.
May i ask your wrist size? and how you feel about wearing SBDC053?
would it be too heavy for everyday wearing? THX
Sounds like a win. I already got a blue tuna and am on the fence on getting another blue Seiko.. The blue sings to me but logically the black would make more sense.

Hey Bruce, have you got any of those Seiko NATO straps left over that you’d be prepared to sell?
Bruce, do you know if Seiko discontinued the SRP777? I think they did but I'm not 100% sure.
Thank you for this!! I owned and heavily modified an SRP777 and parted with it because I just felt it was too large for my liking. It seems I run into that every time I get a Seiko diver these days. Would you say that the SBDC051 wears larger or smaller?
So 051 vs King samurai..??????????
Perfect pair, hoping to add the 62mas Prospex in my collection soon. Can't get enough of these videos.
You'll love it man
Hi, great vid! May I know where did you buy the straps? Thanks
So....the nickname for the SBDC051 is 62 Prospex ? Some call it Ronin. Any other proposals ?
Fungus Foong 6RMAS

Beautiful watches, I like the turtle on you the best.

Just love your channel, for me 1 off the best on watches! thanks! :-) gl with everything Bruce.

That happened me before to an skx and I just ran it under a tap and turned the bezel and the sand washed out. There was no need to remove it

Yeah tbh I don't wear the natos very often but its fun every once in a while!

Ray Caroli Grab the Sumo!!
Thanks for advice Nick , although it might wear larger that's where I'm leaning to.
Ray Caroli Welcome!!Good luck with any one u choose u really can't go wrong with any seiko
I agree, go for the sumo it is so nice
Turtle all the way!
Where did you buy the coined bezel for the Turtle?
How about the 051 vs sumo?
Bruce, which bracelet would you pickup for the SBDC053 if you had to choose between super oyster, endmill and super jubilee? I can't decide. Thanks.
Id get a strait endlink superjubilee.
Bruce Williams Thanks. Your reply is mostly appreciated.
How do I get one of those straps?!?!
Which Seiko diver is best for a small wrist? Seems the SKX but I think it looks cheap. All the more up market watches like the turtle or sumo are huge! Any ideas?
I'm afraid they are all pretty huge across the line. SLA017 is smaller but way expensive
Cheers
Can anyone refer to a good video about changing straps/bracelets? I don't know how it's done. Thank you..
Great video.. What size strap does the SBDC051use 18mm, 20mm or 22mm?
20mm, I believe.
Which one wears larger?
Does anyone know what kind of leather strap I need to buy for SBDC051 (or 053)?
How does the MM300 compare to these guys? You have tried them all!
MM is def nicer. Heftier, better lume, better bracelet, more dynamic hands. A little tall compared to these though and still has hardlex.
Bruce Williams so what you are saying is that for a desk diver, the 051/053 is the better watch. The MM300 obviously, is the better diver ;)
How about the Seiko "Retro" as a nickname?
Can you please do a review of the Seiko SLA017 vs Seiko SBDC051
How about picking up that blue version as well🤣 im sure we would all love to see a 051-053 comparison video.
I plan on it Jason
I hope the 62 name sticks!
I've got the sbdc 055 PADI and love it
Nice video as always Bruce but come on mate are you serious about those straps? They don't match with either watch and look very juvenile to me.
HECK YEAH. I designed the straps and think they are awesome. Don't buy if you dont like
Well done on that design, looks super cool. If I end up buying one of these 2 Seikos, the lime nato strap is a must for summer!
I wish they were smaller
Yeah, Seiko is killing it in the under $1000 diver category. And finally -- sapphire crystal on the SBDC051! Very much agree. Orient is doing it with their entry level divers, it can't be that hard haha
And I hope you like the straps!
Just subscribed. Great vid!!
Turtles are like potato chips! 🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢
I just cant stop!
damn I want an SBDC051 so bad.....
Damn the SBDC051 is so sexy.
I tried on the turtle and it just looked and felt odd on my wrist, while the vintage turtle looked and felt perfect!
I have yet to try the 62 reissue, I LOVE the shiny bezel insert 😛
How strange, I thought it was a near 1:1 reissue
Bruce Williams nope, it's bigger, and not only that, they left the dial the same size and increased the size, so you have more space until the dial reaches the chapter ring, and then the chapter ring is more horizontal then on the original, to make up for the increased size, and that is the thing that bothered me the most, as on the original the chapter thing is very vertical and the dial is more in balance with the size of the case
Sorry, I just saw the link. :P
NATO want
:)
