    I didn't realize it was O.K. to rinse off the food after it had soaked in the lemon juice/water solution for awhile. Good to know! Thanks :-)

    I have also used salted water for apples. I didn’t rinse, but they don’t taste salty. It works!!

    Thank you. I'd never thought about dehydrating diced apples. Have done a bunch of 1/2 slices.
    Merry Christmas!

    I have 40 lbs of organic potatoes and some sweet potatoes I would like to dehydrate because unlike everywhere else, they barely last a week in Florida. Any videos on blanching slices and dehydrating???

      A general video on blanching is coming in a couple of days, but not specific to what you want. Here's info on blanching www.thepurposefulpantry.com/how-to-blanch-vegetables-for-dehydrating/

    What size dice are you using for the apples? I have 1/2" and 1/4". Very good video. I wasn't aware we could use pectin and had forgotten about pineapple juice. I used to put pineapple juice in my food processor container and slice pears and apples directly into the juice. Let sit about 5 minutes then pour everything into my OXO lettuce spinner reserving the juice for the next batch.

    Hi Darcy, I know this is a year and a half old, but the link for the library of printable no longer works. I subscribed to the newsletter, got the welcome email and the 5 day course. Don't see any mention of the library or printables.

    • @ThePurposefulPantry

      No- the library was closed about a year ago. Most things are available on the website - like printing off the recipes on their perspective posts.

      There is no longer a library - this was done 4 years ago - it's been converted into a book at this point: shop.thepurposefulpantry.com/products/dehydrating-basics-journal-coil

    Hi&thanks a lot for the tutorials !
    I'm new to dehydrating ,could you please advise me ? : what is the right layering way if I only plan to fill 2 trays(out of 5) with mixed crashed fruits(made juice out of them first)? Apples,grapes(60%),kiwi&peaches
    What temperature /time would you suggest ? I am planning to store them and make tea of that combo.
    Many thanks !!

      Fruits are at 135F (unless doing fresh citrus or strawberries and I recommend dropping to 125F or lower). Just spread them out on your trays - a fruit leather sheet is going to be really helpful of parchment/baking paper if you don't have one.

    Can I dehydrate fresh pineapple between 104 and 115 to preserve the enzymes? Was wondering if it’s OK to keep it in the dehydrator as long as that would take. Thanks!

    I want to make dehydrated apple honey/cinnamon slices Are there any problems with them drying? I have a OSTBA dehydrator.

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  9 месяцев назад

      Honey will make them a little harder to 'feel' dry because of the surface sugars, and they really don't need honey. Cinnamon will be enough for a sweeter apple.

    I have dehydrated Ambrosia apples and they came out nice and crisp. The other day I bought Gala and dehydrated them, but they did not get crisp, I set them to do another 10 hours and still have soft apples slices. What can I do now? I an afraid they mold if I put them in a jar.

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  Год назад

      Then they need more time. Not everything dries at the same rate, and if you've cooled them to test and they still don't break easily, they are not done.

      If you'd like. Know that it affects your drying time some having the extra sugars.
