This happened to me tonight. My first time making a resin acrylic painting. One of the mistakes I know I made was mixing too much at one time. The second mistake was letting it sit too long before pouring. I didnt know I needed to give it a hot bath so that was the third mistake haha! It was very thick and stringy. I worked with it though because I didnt want to waste my paint and resin. The canvases came out ok. I'm proud of myself and I am looking forward to what my art will look like once I get the resin right. It was very fun even with the mistakes.
Mel G you don't have to give the resin a hot bath that's only to rid the resin of the bubbles you could just run a heat gun or a lighter to pop the bubbles , well if you do set it in hot water only for a small amount of time . I never tried that method i only use a heat gun or lighter alcohol works also just a few sprinkles or spray it , never ever mix water with resin.
@@ResinObsession thank you. I guess trial and error is the way to go. Had good time with the wife and kids, so feeling wise it's priceless, resin wise, it's expensive 😂
That just happened to me yesterday for the first time. I left it in the hot water too long and I mixed too much and let it sit in the mixing cup. Now I know why it did what it did. Thanks!
Thank you for this video! I am working on making bowling pins with the ball. I'm using 2:1 ratio resin. When I work on projects, I always cover the projects to protect them from dust while they cure. This morning shortly after pouring the resin into the mold of the ball, I noticed that the resin had gotten extremely hot and overflowed. My conclusion is that because the mold is kind of deep and was covered, some sort of reaction to too much resin being covered caused it to overheat and overflow in such a tight small mold space. The other mold I did this too were NOT covered and never cured. 😮
Thank you, I did this today. I let it sit to long and I lost it all. Yes, you are correct melted my cheap cup and I threw into bucket of water on porch. But we learn from your mistakes. 😀
I just did this the other nite by accident. Sat my cup with 14 ounces of resin in hot water and went to the bathroom. Came out a few minutes later and it was solid! I’m keeping it as a momento and reminder!
I used disposable plastic cup. It melted right in my hand last night. Everything was smoking. I put them in the wash room n poured cold water on it. It was solid by then.
I came straight yt to understand why this had just happened,I did exactly what u did with the resin, the room was cold so i sat them both in hot water and mixed 6oz 😲 I actually didn't realise that 3oz was maximum..but thanks to you i now know not what to do next time..😘
This only happened to me when i added color acrylic paint to be exact plus i used to much heat from the heat gun to pop the bubbles , lucky it was already in the mold i missed the smoking because i left and came back and it had over flowed in a melting form inside my mold very hot , and it cured in minutes . I was also lucky it didn't burn through the silicone when it cooled off it was still a little gummy and i was able to peel off most of the melted looking parts of the project , funny thing that was the only destroyed part of the project it was a one sided mold the front that shows looks great just the back part was crappy looking but that's the part that doesn't suppose to show anyway , and my silicone mold looked as if nothing ever happened so i didn't completely ruin my project or waste resin and my mold was safe . i learned a lesson never over heat resin especially when using color i haven't had any other problems so far ever since.

Mine did this last night started melting my cup and burned my hand! It suppose to stay straight for up to 40 min but once I mix a small batch it never last no matter the temp n my room 🧐
I've never heard this could happen. But, my quest: If it was 80°, why did you need to put it into hot water at all? I keep my room at around 78° and never use heat...
Your bottles of resin are still cooler than the 80 degree air temperature. By warming the bottles, you thin the liquid and make it easier for bubbles to release. I show more of that here: ruclips.net/video/ugQSgVIP2Uk/видео.html
Came back into my room to find my resin in my silicon mould had bubbled up and set and I got so confused it was probably because I used too much acrylic paint to set a colour in my resin 😬
I think as with chip fires DON'T move it, you could spill and cause further fires, spill burning resin on yourself etc. Everyone should have a good extinguisher and fire blanket. Use that. They're only a few quid/dollar's, my last one was £10 from Amazon and it's an aerosol spray with a free fire blanket. Accidents happen and with all that flammable resin, varnish, alcohol etc fire safety is essential.
I could easily see that if it was a large amount of resin not to move it. In this case, it wasn't much and I immediately knew what was happening, so I wanted to get it outside instead of the smoke and fumes filling up my studio. To your point though, it always good to have fire safety equipment close by in case something gets out of control.
This stuff is dangerous I used to work with it in food factory to lay flooring in big mixes 20 years ago. If you had dry skin it would effect you I stopped to any job but all the guys that I worked with are no longer here Do not heat it up must mix it right and open area
So what do u do if everything seems fine till about an hour after you pour and suddenly only one mold is very warm and the others aren't. Should I try to cool it or leave it?
Happen last night in middle of project. I didn't warm it. The amount was normal amount I use. I stirred it but the haze didn't disappear for the time it was supposed to
Oh every times it did it (2wice ) last night a small batch at that I throw that cup right into my bedside garbage a lil smoke and that was it not hot enough to start a fire and if it does I’m right here with it.
Even in a warm room, the resin and hardener itself can be cold. I like warming Part A and Part B for a few minutes to thin them out. It reduces the number of bubbles you will have when you mix the two parts together. You can see more in this video: ruclips.net/video/ugQSgVIP2Uk/видео.html
Mine happened only when I poured it on and over a real and fresh flower. Scared the crap out of me. Put it outside for a bit. But it's better now though there is still white bubbles and a slight smell.
I didn't use a water bath of any kind. Never ran into this issue before. Trying to make lamps with battery operated fairy lights that [claim] to be compatible with water and resin. The switch is off and the batteries are not in the cartridge. I have now put my molds in a plastic tray on the window sill with the window open and snow inside the tray. Will this be okay?! What else should I do? Also, one of the molds (the hotter one) is hardening but the other mold is taking much longer to cure and is not as hot, not yet anyway..
I had used the majority of a kit on one edge of my table and then finished off the bottle and some of a new bottle on the other edge, I mixed and poured and within 10 minutes the resin started to smoke and within 30 minutes had totally cured, I was using amethyst shimmer on one side which was perfect and decided to use gold shimmer on the other, I actually thought it was the pigment, what a clever chap I am !!!
Hi Eliana, I'm sorry this happened to you. This article will help: www.resinobsession.com/resin-frequently-asked-questions/epoxy-resin-overheated-resin-is-hot-and-smoking/
Are you able to reuse bottle A and bottle B again once its cooked down? Or is the product damaged and should be tossed away? I think I left mine in warm water to long and I waited for it to cool then combined A and B but it ended up having a lot of bubbles
Everything you mentioned happened with me. Warmed up too much, didn't distribute into separate cups, was a really warm day and no air conditioning 😯🤭🤦🏽♀️. But thank you sharing this ❤️
There are other reasons why it can happen. I discuss other reasons here: www.resinobsession.com/resin-frequently-asked-questions/epoxy-resin-overheated-resin-is-hot-and-smoking/
So this just happened to me except my flowers on the inside that were white are now yellow and burnt looking. My mold is piping hot still but not smoking anymore and yes cured in seconds! I'm devastated bc the entire thing looks bad. I'm on my way to get sand paper in hopes I can fix some of it once it isn't hot to the touch anymore. As for the flowers I guess there's nothing that can be done. Worse part...these were my wedding bouquet flowers. I know exactly what I did wrong too. I hate how impatient I am and wish I just took it a layer at a time
My resin A I put in the microwave for 8 seconds and I mix the B it was a solid in 2 hours but now I did it just normal I’m making a sphere I just started playing with epoxy yesterday and now it’s real hot on the top half it’s 1 am here and I’m tired so rush it at the end but that’s why I do it to calm me down and not get frustrated or anxious taking control
Hi Jon, for safety reasons, please don't put resin in your microwave. Heat water in a microwave, then put the resin in the hot water bath to warm it up.
This just happened to me!! I didn't think much of it but I had seen a video where they cured resin very quickly . My mistake was using the heat gun too much! I wasted so much, and it was beautifully clear resin!:(
I put my resin in hot water for 20 min just because of how cold it was outside and so that the resin was super viscous. But all of a sudden it clumped up, got hot and cured within a minute or so. I was maybe half done with my fiberglass project. 30 bucks totally waisted.
I'm very new to resin and just ran across your video. I've heard people talk about "flash cure" but I don't know enough about it. How long does it take before the smoke and heat start? I mix 6 oz of each part almost every time I make something and then once it is mixed, pour it into separate cups to color. I worry about a couple of my molds that are a little deep in spots, don't want to start a fire but don't think about starting them earlier to pour the thick spots in layers
Hi Jessica, it's good to be thinking about this. You definitely don't want to start a fire! This article will help: www.resinobsession.com/resin-frequently-asked-questions/why-does-resin-flash-cure/
This happened to me now but it didnt cause any smoke first time preserving my roses on a dome.. and it bubbles big time 😭😭😭 what should i do for the next layers
I'm glad I found this. I'm so new to using resin and I may have mixed to much so I can mold 2 sets of coasters and the 1st one came out fine then like u said, the extra resin sat a while before I began to mix the colors and it got so hot and smokey. I freaked out thinking it was going to explode haha!!! Lesson learned! Thank you for explaining what could have gone wrong. :)
i last time had like 250g mixture poured it at once in thin plastic container after 30min it started producing a lot bubbles , smoke, and almost start firing fumes were disquisting. i was really pissed off because i wasted so much...
Unfortunately today this happened when i wanted to finish my leftover resin and in total it was 145 gm of 1:3 resin 😭 boy did i get scared when it started to bubble up like champagne and then hardened within minutes. I used to sit it for 40mins before using and never had this issue, but today within 30 mins it started bubbling. So much resin lost 🤦
this just happened to me & i got scareddd since it was the first time to bubble up so much & rising to the top. i left it outside on concrete like you said it's pretty chilly, is it fine to leave it there all night?
Please help me im super scared; i did not know that resin had a maximun and minimum; i mixed A LOT (like 800 grams) and poured it directlu to a silicone mold. It has been like 10 minutes and it is BOILING, the mold is impossible to touch, but the resin is pretty hard. What can I do??? Please help me; the mold is like 10 cm

I stirred it but the haze didn't disappear for the time it was supposed to
There could be some other reasons. I share them in this article: www.resinobsession.com/resin-frequently-asked-questions/epoxy-resin-overheated/
Oh every times it did it (2wice ) last night a small batch at that I throw that cup right into my bedside garbage a lil smoke and that was it not hot enough to start a fire and if it does I’m right here with it.
If the room was already at 80 degrees, why did you use a water bath?
Even in a warm room, the resin and hardener itself can be cold. I like warming Part A and Part B for a few minutes to thin them out. It reduces the number of bubbles you will have when you mix the two parts together. You can see more in this video: ruclips.net/video/ugQSgVIP2Uk/видео.html
It's like 100 degrees here in South Texas so that's definitely enough heat to let epoxy cure really fast
In all likelihood, after five minutes in a hot water bath, your resin is the same temp as the water. So, ten minutes would have no effect.
If Seen this 10 min before ,I could have save my project ......so sad all my work is lost hehe
Mine happened only when I poured it on and over a real and fresh flower. Scared the crap out of me. Put it outside for a bit. But it's better now though there is still white bubbles and a slight smell.
Oh goodness!
@@ResinObsession might put up a video in a day or two about it.
I've noticed that it only happens to me when I get close to the end of the bottles. Any idea if shelf life could be a factor?
Hmm. I wouldn't expect that to be an issue.
Less volume means the same heat doesn’t have to work as hard. The more volume, the less heat you need so what little is left will heat up quicker.
This happened to me just after opening a new set of resin so I don't think shelf life is a factor
When I mixed mine and poured it into the layers it then started to bubble and stuff. What am I doing wrong
Hi Eliana, I'm sorry this happened to you. This article will help: www.resinobsession.com/resin-frequently-asked-questions/epoxy-resin-overheated-resin-is-hot-and-smoking/
Are you able to reuse bottle A and bottle B again once its cooked down? Or is the product damaged and should be tossed away? I think I left mine in warm water to long and I waited for it to cool then combined A and B but it ended up having a lot of bubbles
As long as the A and B weren't combined, yes, you can reuse. It sounds like it might have cooled down too much before you used it.
@@ResinObsession thank you!!
Thank you. This happened to me. That's why I am here 😁. So helpful.
Everything you mentioned happened with me. Warmed up too much, didn't distribute into separate cups, was a really warm day and no air conditioning 😯🤭🤦🏽♀️. But thank you sharing this ❤️
You're welcome. It's startling when it happens but now you know what not to do for next time.
I never put it in warm water bath, but still it happened.
I hate how impatient I am and wish I just took it a layer at a time
Oh no. I'm sorry to hear this.
What if I put the resin in the mold already and it got hot? Will I still be able to get it out of the mold?
If you're lucky, yes. Sometimes though, the hot resin will melt the mold.
I didn't put mine in hot water bath, I apparently left it to do something and when return it was on smoke.
Oh no! You might have mixed too much at once.
What’s with the water bath what is that to make it cure faster ? Once I stir mine I feel it and I can feel it heating up and my room be freezing
Hi, I explain more about a water bath for resin here: xx
What causes my resin to have craze marks when it comes out of a mold. Like a whale or dolphins mold
I’ve just finished some customer pieces and one of them started smoking, will it still cure properly and will it look ok or will it be ruined?
It should cure, but I can't say that they won't crack in the process.
This just happened to me!! I didn't think much of it but I had seen a video where they cured resin very quickly . My mistake was using the heat gun too much! I wasted so much, and it was beautifully clear resin!:(
Oh no. 😫
I put my resin in hot water for 20 min just because of how cold it was outside and so that the resin was super viscous. But all of a sudden it clumped up, got hot and cured within a minute or so. I was maybe half done with my fiberglass project. 30 bucks totally waisted.
Bummer. :(
So if it’s smoking can it burn or start a fire?
i accidentally put too much hardener and my hand was burning as i was holding my resin! it also started smoking and cured really fast :(
Oh no! I hope you are okay.
Did it catch fire?
This article will help: www.resinobsession.com/resin-frequently-asked-questions/epoxy-resin-overheated/
Glad it was helpful!
This happened when I used too much hardener, ration is 2:1 but I always lessen my hardener now…
It Works?
Just happened..I could feel the cup getting hot through the gloves. Luckily I just bought silicone measuring cups
Phew!
i last time had like 250g mixture poured it at once in thin plastic container after 30min it started producing a lot bubbles , smoke, and almost start firing fumes were disquisting. i was really pissed off because i wasted so much...
Oh yikes!
I just did this with 4 cups of mixture... OMG I couldn't breathe 😷
OH no!
Thanks! This just happened to me.
Oh no, I hope you're okay.
It's heartbreaking isn't it? I'm glad you're okay.
ME.. 10 mins ago! The smell is what made me check the resin... Yep too long in the water bath!!
this just happened to me & i got scareddd since it was the first time to bubble up so much & rising to the top. i left it outside on concrete like you said it's pretty chilly, is it fine to leave it there all night?
Yes, it is. Your resin won't be usable anyways. :(
Please help me im super scared; i did not know that resin had a maximun and minimum; i mixed A LOT (like 800 grams) and poured it directlu to a silicone mold. It has been like 10 minutes and it is BOILING, the mold is impossible to touch, but the resin is pretty hard. What can I do??? Please help me; the mold is like 10 cm
Hi Camila, you're going to have to wait for the resin to cool. Then, demold. Hopefully your mold isn't damaged.
There a maximum mix amount???!!! I've been mixing 6oz with a drill. My resin did get hot today... weird because it's never happened before.
Hi Andrea, I'm sorry this happened to you. Yes, there is a minimum and maximum mixing amount for each resin. I share more in our resin buying guide: www.resinobsession.com/resin-frequently-asked-questions/resin-buying-guide/
I freaked out and poured dirt on mine lol
Oh goodness!
This video was very helpful. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
I’m freaking out! I poured it into glass! Is that going to explode it??
I wouldn't expect it to explode, but the glass will likely crack as well.
Thank you. All valuable information.
You are welcome. ☺️
on my resins instructions it says to fill no higher than 2cm. I did that today because I needed a lot of resin and then after ten minutes of resting it suddenly started foaming and smoking and cracking and I got the fuck out lool scary as hell
That happened to me i didnt even know what i did it was my 1st x even try it i was doing dominos i felt like the air around me was just getting hot but like fast i had one window open n my ceiling fans i was in my dinning room i hurry up n tan downto badement n got to the backyard n just threw everythin away mold n everything it was such a strong smell panicked and never tried it again i dont even know what brand i had .😮😮😢
I am from india...same stiff happened to me after pouring it in my table and it started smoking...so should i let it happen or what should i do....was its the temperature as i was doing it in an open area, or what should i do....plx help
Have you watched the video yet? I give some tips in there on what you should do starting in the second half of the video.
i did resin before and everything was fine and i did it all wrong and still everything was fine, and tonight i thought this thing was gonna explode. like wow no chill.
I'm watching this because I mixed the resin and went to the bathroom came back tried to pour and it was a big ball and burning and smoking🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
Oh no Whit. I'm sorry that happened to you!
Is scary happened to me today
Great info !!! I see a lot of videos about cold climates, but like you I'm in Fl. Central East coast. How does heat and humidity affect different resin projects?
It shouldn't unless you are working with polyurethane resins. They are moisture sensitive.
Thank you SO much for this!!
You're so welcome!
How about if you live in a flat and have no balcony?
Then you should definitely have a metal container that you can put the hot resin in and carry it down stairs to the outside.
happens to me nowww im scared you can even cook on it because its very hot
Oh wrong type of resin. thought i searched weed resin lol
The same thing happend to me yesterday😆
Oh no!
Mine melts the cups 👀
New subscriber. 😊 Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for subbing!
It just happens to me 😢
Hey I got overheated epoxy on my finished product and now it looks herendous what do I do to fix it
It's hard to say without seeing it. If it's full of cracks and bubbles like this one, I'm afraid there is no way to fix it.
It hapoened to me without the hot bath
Oh goodness!
"...a squirrel moment..." LOL!!!
Makes me wonder if Katherine has seen either Phineas & Ferb and or Up!.
@@suzettekath9860 I have no idea what those are. Kids' shows? My children are in their 50s. It was just so funny! :)
I have not, but that's so funny!
Instantly thought of “Up”.
I’m here because I just wasted 2 cups of resin🥴😫
Oh no! But now you know what NOT to do next time. 😉
