I've explained to many people that things cost what you will pay for them, not what the "fair" price is. If you could eat Taco Bell and crap solid-gold turds, you'd be selling the turds at the daily spot price for gold, not what it costs to eat at Taco Bell. This is why "price gouging" isn't actually a thing; things cost what you'll pay, driven by supply and demand. If you can convince someone to pay more, then that's good for you and bad for them.
"This is why "price gouging" isn't actually a thing; things cost what you'll pay" That is a non-sequitur. You're confusing is-statements with ought-statements. Prices are considered gouged in reference to a standard of fairness that exists independently if actually applied or not.
That's one thing about Media (Songs, Films, Videogames) I mean after the INITIAL outlay, the costs for printing/duplication are minute. Especially where it comes to digital goods. At least physical things have SOME intrinsic value (The value of what they're made from) Also if you could eat Taco Bell and crap solid-gold turds, it's likely that at least one other person (if not almost everyone else) would be able to do so too. Then the spot price for gold will be only slightly higher than the cost of eating at Taco Bell.
Capitalism is about making profits not fairness. If there is no cartel nothing is stopping another organization from stepping in and undercutting the 'price-gougers' to take away their business. Agreed in practice its often not that easy.
Heh... i paid like 200$ for a second hand gaming MSI laptop from 2010, has big ass full 1080p display and it's modular. Came with 16gb of RAM, payed another 150$ for a GTX970M (HUGE upgrade over the original gtx560X it came with) and a CPU upgrade and guess what? I play whatever I need or want on the go... Do I need anything else? Fuck no...
Other than the extremely obvious exaggerations, this video is spot on. The example of how they dangle a sexy $1299 Macbook air and tempt you up the upgrade path to $1999 is completely true. A lot of how they do it is by putting only 8gb of ram in their "cheaper" models ("cheaper" being "under $2000"). There is simply no way around upgrading to 16gb if you want this computer to last at all down the road other than a soldering iron and a crap ton of skill, tools, and specialized know-how.
Apple continues to be most successful anti-consumer company in the world. They'll continue to make shit loads of money, because there are plenty of suckers around to buy their overrated products. Tim Apple is truly living his life.
With all the humor aside, this was accurate! Its important to put the word out! The companies do their best to make sure we dont own what we pay for, by giving us less and less control over it. Apple wouldn`t be the highest valued company in the world, without these huge profit margins. Well, second highest valued company now, but with some price increases, they can make it back to number 1. The customers will love to pay to those premium prices.
On the contrary, price increases would outprice a section of the market, specially during this difficult times, and thus decrease demand. Apple stock is precisely losing potential value due to concerns of a downtrend in iPhone demand. Investors value the company’s growing and loyal user base beyond the profit margins as they are more accurately correlated to growth potential
I hope the next generation wouldn't be so dumb to buy Apple products unwittingly. Yes, Apple always have a fan base of rich people who don't care about several thousands for a phone ( in fact, the higher the price, the more they like it, show their status), so they are there to exist as long as rich people exist. But I want people who are not rich don't buy Apple anymore, because clearly they are inferior to many other much affordable alternatives.

The actual reason that only applies to iPhones, Macs and iPads: Resale value and longevity. But yeah, charging 60hz for $799 and $899 and charging their items (wheels and cloth) for expensive prices has to be a joke.
Why stop there? Why not set up Apple stores all over the country and don't even give the consumer the product. Instead, keep it at the store and charge the Apple sheeple an admission fee to enter and use their prepaid item. Plus they need to pay a monthly subscription fee to keep their spot at the Apple Store reserved.

Half the reason people who buy Apple defend the high price of their products, is they don't want to admit that they overpaid.
I got my first Mac when the M1 line came out; there is a lot to like, but yes, memory and HD space are priced way out of line. At the time, it would cost me a little over 2300 for a new PC, and I got the M1 for 1100, so it was a win. So now I still have it, and I will need a new computer later (2 years from now), but I don't know if the current price trend will continue on a Mac or if I will get a PC again and still pay a ton of money. Great video, btw!
Pc will last forever and with upgrades can go for a good 5-10 years easy
Well, Yes and NO, Yes, you can upgrade your PC all you want. I had a monster case for 15 years, and that was the only thing that wasn't updated, So when upgrading a Video Card, I would need a new Mother Board, but why, because then the bottleneck would be CPU. Now I also need a new RAM stick, which costs. If I wasn't, video editing could be cheaper; I don't play computer games anymore. If I did, I would still have a PC. Also I had my first PC back 1988, also always did my upgrades myself...So, if you think I am an Apple fanboy, you are wrong. It just works better for me at this time in my life, but it is not for everyone. Lastly, I never said PC was going away! @@aaronstorey9712
@@charlespokeradventures I never you were a fanboy. Neither did I mean ought by what I said beyond what I said
I've explained to many people that things cost what you will pay for them, not what the "fair" price is.
'driven by supply and demand'
And sometimes driven by consumer stupidity too.
That's a very wild example, and i love it xD
"This is why "price gouging" isn't actually a thing; things cost what you'll pay"
That is a non-sequitur.
At least physical things have SOME intrinsic value (The value of what they're made from)
Also if you could eat Taco Bell and crap solid-gold turds, it's likely that at least one other person (if not almost everyone else) would be able to do so too.
I bought only one Mac in my life, I’ll never make the same mistake twice

Other than the extremely obvious exaggerations, this video is spot on. The example of how they dangle a sexy $1299 Macbook air and tempt you up the upgrade path to $1999 is completely true. A lot of how they do it is by putting only 8gb of ram in their "cheaper" models ("cheaper" being "under $2000"). There is simply no way around upgrading to 16gb if you want this computer to last at all down the road other than a soldering iron and a crap ton of skill, tools, and specialized know-how.
