And sorry Adi! 😅
Hi Sam
Love ur vids
Dang it. Ugreen has yet another youtuber I thought was reputable pushing their scam.
Hughes Jeffrey, and he will do it!
This would have been a great iFixit sponsorship chance
Glad your wife has a great sense of humor too.
or he would be a dead man🤣🤣🤣
@@SaraMorgan-ym6ue Exactly. Fefails are the most anti-consumer/user-hostile POS ever.
Yea it seams they're a good fit. Wonder if I will ever find love ;(
Apple is awesome! In the 90s a battery swap would have been done in 2 seconds without any tools. Now you need to be a surgeon to fix anything on a Mac
apple batteries have always been easy to replace. it's just the annoying part pairing (Battery health disabled)
That think is thinner then a smart phone (12 inch MacBook) I can promise you it wouldn’t have been even possible to make it easy to swap out in 2 seconds -.-
Ah yes, it reminds me of changing a cars window nowadays. They have become an integral part, contributing to the chassis' stability and what.... are glued in !!!
@@Bloxomatic Well it would, but it would have taken more effort to actually design it to be swappable. Its cheaper and easier to just glue everything down. There is a laptop that has fairly easy parts swapping called the framework 13, but it took a lot of time for it to become a thing because they had to design a whole bunch of modular connections just for it
Apple, the world’s biggest Unnovator
I think, I know the issue: you need to open it again and check all the cables, especially the screen cable, because it's really like to disconnect when you try to close the case. Also try to check all "ground" cables.
I repaired a few macs and all those humming fans, when it's turning on but not showing the picture, because of a disconnected screen...
he needs to see this comment
It's probably hard diagnosing if it's turning on or not since the 12 inch MacBook doesn't have a fan I think.
You can connect an external display and keyboard and check if it's running that way, not sure about Macs but laptops normally default to an external display if they can't connect to the internal one.
Didn‘t he try connecting an external display & keyboard at 9:23 ?
@@Marcus_pePunkt Keyboard, yes, not sure about display. In any case, in my experience laptops also generally don't fail to work without a battery to begin with, so either there's a deeper issue at play, or it's Apple shenanigans.
Send it to Louis Rossmann! He'll have it working in no time.
He's in Romania. By the time laptop comes back he'll be able to acquire new one.
@SAMTIME yess
Huh? He's in Texas. Even if he himself is in Romania, He has competent techs that will repair it.@@FR4M3Sharma
Sam is in Romania? Where?
@@FR4M3Sharma who s in romania and why romania of all places bruh
After all that hard work. Apple isn't known for their repairability. You're very lucky to have such a wonderful wife.
Apple is just an overrated tech company, they sell their logo and folks fall for it
and they are also well known for not repairing their own products, because they prefer if you swapped it with a new one(same model) by paying almost the same price if you bought a new one while surrendering the broken one.
@@lwoklidfr wife?
@@someonefar5600 why asked me about the wife thing when I'm not the one who made that comment? you are asking the wrong person😂
apple computers are by far the most repaired because the only ones worth to repair.
It's quite reasonable to assume, you didn't break anything. While it is reasonable to assume, that one of the quadrillion anti repair measures from Apple kicked in.
What's the most repairable laptop out there?
@@user-ms7gt2km5f framework maybe?
@@user-ms7gt2km5f The framework laptops
@@user-ms7gt2km5f the Framework is the best. Thinkpads are also pretty ok, especially older ones. But generally most laptops are pretty fairly repairable so long as they aren't a Macbook, a Microsoft Surface, or similiar.
@@user-ms7gt2km5f framework
Nothing like a Ugreen dock to save a marriage!
Ugreen or Ugone!
I did a battery replacement on one of these for an in-law and I warned her that it may not survive the surgery as these are a mess to due a battery swap on. I managed to get it installed and it it was a no start , Then I retraced my assembly steps and had misaligned a cable on the main board It then woke up and was a success but what a turd that thing was to work on.
Make the only consumable part nearly impossible to replace. That's modern technology in the nutshell. I am suprised they didn't pot the entire thing with industrial strength epoxy.
Apple does something like that with some of their products.
That's Apple, mostly. Though yes, others have copied them. We need Right To Repair laws.
Not "modern technology". Just Apple shit.
That's why you get a Framework laptop. Replace anything yourself easily.
@@LawlessNate I'll look into that.
Does anyone else remember back when laptop computer batteries was accessable without disassembly?
At least we have framework now bringing back repairability without sacrificing quality
Some even had two so you can hotswap them without having to turn off.
I still use a laptop that has a easy swappable battery. One switch to unlock the battery and one to pop it out. Only if the capacity was high enough for todays standard.
Back when we had removable batteries the typical life was around 3-4 hours so battery swaps were something people did often. Now we have MacBook Pro’s with blazing fast processors and gorgeous bright screens that manage to get 14 hours of battery life so having a replaceable battery is not something people care much about anymore.
@@QuintonDolan Or at least as long as the battery is good. When it dies, everyone wishes they had a laptop with easily replaceable battery
Great design Apple. A simple battery replacement can be this difficult
this is not difficult and why would anyone want a new battery on an ancient device.
apple's batteries last easily 2 times longer than any windows craptop

I wonder that every time. His videos are proper quality. I also hate the people that leave bad comments on his videos just for the fck of it.
Exactly! He is one of thr nicest and most importantly funniest youtubers out there!
this guy deserves more but i believe he z a new RUclipsr, i just recently got his chanmel
Maybe it's because he doesn't cater to one specific fandom or audience.
He's not like someone who'd only make videos making fun of one specific brand to cater to their haters, he makes fun of them all equally. I've been watching him since 2016 and he's been my absolute favourite tech RUclipsr
He's shadow banned by big tech
Having your wife tell us to unsubscribe was perfect!
One of the most wholesome tech videos on RUclips. Despite the repair failure, the wife ended up getting a working newer model Macbook and the sponsored Ugreen dongle as well. Sam is so generous!
That’s wonderful that you tried to help restore the laptop for your wife
Mate your wife is gorgeous. You're a lucky man. Bless you two.
Your wife is a very nice person. You are a lucky guy🎉
only 48 seconds and I'm smiling with you two. you guys are soul mates!
After a repair, the 12" MacBook requires a 10 minute trickle charge with a 5 watt power supply before you connect the normal power adapter.
I know that if a device that has a type c port and the battery is too low then it wont charge that it needs a dumb charger to supply power such as a steady 5v to get the battery have enough power for the charging circuit to work again
But shouldn't he get something on the screen, even without a battery attached? As long as the adapter is plugged in?
Most wholesome relationship I've seen
Same problem here, I destroyed the old MacBook of my girlfriend also. I did many battery changes before, but this device was a nightmare! Rest in peace little mac, your tiny sister over here also died! 😢😖
Next time don't buy shit.
@@cosmefulanito5933, every other MacBook lasted at least 10 years. On the other hand, mac os has a unix kernel similar to linux and a good support for development tools. Even if upgradeability and repairability on macs sucks, they served me reliably well over the last 15 years in software development. That's something I can't say about Windows and Linux has it's restrictions, when it comes to development tools.
@@cosmefulanito5933 He did not, she did.
It's like Apple planed that fix tutorial with the balancing it on two sticks, like they knew people will bugger it up and snap the ribbon cables " well done Apple " ;D
This is the correct procedure, always have replacement on hand before you start pulling would wife’s computer apart.

I remember back when you could just order a new battery and pop it right in. 2008 isn't that long ago.
Wolds apart
no longer needed, the batteries last easily the lifetime and are easily replacable like shown here. but almost nobody will do that because this machine is more than ancient.
@@JohnSmith-pn2vl 'easily'.
It wouldn't turn back on. He broke it by doing an 'easy' repair.
No. They deliberately make it hard to do so they can squeeze out every last buck from anyone gullible enough to buy their bullshit.
2008 was 16 years ago
The dynamic between you two is really awesome!
That’s why they are married
I absolutely hate how the industry has moved away from having laptops where components can be easily replaced or repaired by the owner of the laptop to the exact opposite. What's even more egregious is that even when you want to get help from the manufacturer they may not do shit, even when the laptop is only a year or two old. It straight-up pisses me off that this is where we are at, and it's all because of human greed.
*Wonderful couple, keep up the flame and the humor!*
This is my favorite video you've ever made. Great success!
6:20 I wouldn't recommend it because there's lots of ways for this to go wrong, but in theory if the battery is discharged all the way down to 0V* it should be relatively inert, and so damaging it during removal wouldn't be a big deal.
*To be clear, I don't mean 0%. Completely discharging lithium batteries is very bad for them so battery management systems consider the battery to be at 0% when the cell voltage is much higher than 0V. It doesn't really matter if you damage a dead battery that you're removing anyway, but since you're doing something very non standard you need to manually discharge the battery with an appropriate discharge resistor or other dumb load.
A battery discharged to 0V is probably *dead*, or if not dead, has a significant self-discharge.

In my experience this is the most unpredictable MacBook to fix. Battery replacements usually last max 4 months before the MacBook gives up or starts acting funny for no apparent reason. Not entirely your fault it didn’t work 😅
You win some - you loose some - good attempt though.

loose = opposite of "tight" (and is pronounced differently)

Love your channel Sam. I mean i only came across your channel in the last few weeks but i have to say great content!!!
Your wife is so delightful 😊
You executed the repair exactly how Apple's engineers hoped you would, pat yourself on the back for a job well done!
01:44 She said "I have a bad feeling about it" after he got inside 😅
In all the videos that you have made and I have watched this is my BEST. Just love the feeling behind the repair 😂😆😂😆
5:41 - "Now remember everyone, wear protection... Even when you're just by yourself"
If you think Apple soldering RAM to their motherboards to avoid users from upgrading/fixing it was bad, they are now doing this with the hardrive as well. Look up their new Mac Mini...
And what they do on their iPhone/iPad is being pushed to their computers as well. They are disabling repairs with software. For example, you replace the display in a system with an original part from another Apple device, the part is original, made by Apple just from another device, even the same model, and it will not work. Or they will disable things in the operating system on purpose to leave a crippled device. They disable things with software to avoid users from repairing devices. How much more anti-consumer can Apple be is mind-blowing.
Oh my gosh. I love this. It’s so sweet, silly, and funny. Love the dynamic.
The two of you are great together!

I replaced mine this morning and it worked just fine. Thanks Sam for the inspiration!
Gosh, I know that feeling of trying to turn on the computer after a self-repair. And getting nothing....
@SAMTIME I knew we had something significant in common other than our dashing good looks and sparkling and infectious sense of humour. I have the same screwdriver set with the orange edging. 🙂
you are a braver man then me, last time i fixed a mac or any pc, i lost nearly all the small tiny screws and had to rebuy them all.
I have an extra bedroom if you need a place to stay for the rest of the year.

Such good video. It was really chilling to watch 😊
🤣OMG😆That was brilliant AND heartwarming👏🔥🤣 -Also what the hell kind of laptop battery is that?!?😱😅
I've fixing Macs for 10 years and this is the worst model to work with, also some clients attempt to replace the battery and they damaged the flex cables and other things, I really hate to work with this model, I know how you feel like when it doesn't turn on, but you can try to disconnect the battery and plug in, if the Mac turn on just connect the battery again :)
you should totally send this to another youtuber who does apple repair. It would be a fun video to see where it went wrong.

Tech engineers' advice is to get a new wife in cases like this
I used a string to remove batteries on several MBP without removing motherboard or any other MB parts apart from the back cover. Faster, easier and no need for glue solvent. Happy wife is happy life! 😉

Sam, you are a great and fun loving team. There was no murder, so glad you'll be back for more videos. Now we all know there's no “I” in team but there is an A for Apple. The store is open today, so a brand new Mac Air for Addie should be on the cards? I wonder who else agrees?
