    I have owned Mk2 CR-V with 2.2.diesel engine for seven years and thinking of bying Mk4 with the same engine. But then I thought why ? The old one is still doing it`s job with no worries. 460 000 kilometres now and absolutely problem free car 😎

      I have the same quandary. It’s the 30 MPG that make you look at newer ones but is it worth it?

    When it comes to how they perform in the likes of snow or mild off road the key thing is the choice of tyres. The tyres make a huge difference! A crv on summer tyres will still struggle in the snow. I use Michelin cross climate all season tyres on mine and they work fantastic in all weather's, including snow. That's the tyre to have on a crv.

    • @ScottishCarClan
      @ScottishCarClan  Год назад +4

      That's a really important point and yes, I compeltely agree. That's very likely the tyre I'll replace these with as and when they're needed.

    • @josephgittos3787
      @josephgittos3787 Год назад +1

      I always tell people dont buy summer tyres just buy all season tyres , the UK is a wet country . I had a BMW 1series with runlet tyres and trust me they are rubbish even in the wet so changed them to normal all season tyres and what a difference esp in the snow , runlets should be binned, and if worried about a flat just buy a puncture kit and a few tools.

    We had a Mk2 (indestructible as you said) and we've just bought a Mk4 petrol EX (13 plate). It's amazing. Dull as a washing machine and utterly dependable. We'll probably drive it forever. We've had lots of (cheap) cool cars, but this one we're never worried about...ever. Also, don't forget it's very roomy inside with proper "three across" in the back. Comfy, reliable, safe. Utterly brilliant.

    Never looked back! Like you say it does everything you can ask of it, my current one is a March ‘23 EX hybrid and I love it! Can’t beat them for family getaways etc, have looked at other makes but when it comes down to the equipment you get as standard, Honda leave the rest for dead!

    Nice review mate. Loved my old MK2 CR-V but the 2.0 iVTEC petrol just wasn't economical enough so I sold it on. Quite fancy one of these with the 1.6 diesel units in it.

  • @david-c1p2r

    Watch out for the clutch, especially on a diesel They are prone to failure and expensive to replace. Mk 2 4 Ncap stars due to cabin folding in on driver in crash. Almost all will have rust issues flagged up on mot after 10 years on road. Wheel alignment problems causes inner tyres to wear so check carefully before buying used. Rear diff does not like any old oil and will cost serious cash to replace. Used crv can be pricey so if you do not need 4 wheel drive by frv, same car underneath, cost pennies to buy. I bought mine for £595 spares or repairs. Changed oil and filters, new tyres and a couple of brake pads. So far so good. Quote from an AA mechanic- "when we get a call out to a Honda we know it will either be a flat battery or a flat tyre."I have driven 5 different Hondas into thr ground and never had a mechanical repair, it is rust that will kill them. Always check previous MOT before buying and make sure it has fsh.

    Just bought a gen 4 crv at 73k miles. I am mostly very happy with it but right off the bat its having timing issues. Ive had to drop quit a bit of money into already. The gen 4s do have pretty common timing issues which can lead to catostrophic engine failure if the tensioner is not replaced and the chain stretches. Still super solid but not completely without issues

    Great cars , we have 2 MK4 CRV’s , one petrol ,one 1.6 diesel and a 1.3 Honda Jazz.
    The only thing I’m pi###d off about is my diesel is 118g/ km very good on fuel , fully maintained no expense spared and someone with a late 2015 onwards that has much higher emissions is allowed in ULEZ locations , total farce as they are going by the year of a vehicle and not the emissions ( Another big money grabbing exercise by the local authorities and government and for little to nothing outlay for taking your hard earned cash )

    It's funny how a lot of the channels are talking about older CRVs in the past month. I feel kinda exonerated as I've been driving them for ten years now and extolling their values to anyone who would listen. Now everyone is coming around to them and I kinda want it to be a secret again :D
    I'm glad you're enjoying the mk4 though, something to replace our Mk3 with when underbody corrosion finally takes it out.

    I have the the mk 4 version AWD with the 9 speed auto which was only mated to the newer 1.6 idetec engine. Great punchy engine by the way , loads of torque for a smaller diesel when you need it.
    My only gripe is that the ZF sourced gearbox can be quite harsh on start up for the first 5 minutes and is quite noisy around town in the lower gears.
    Only thing I’ve had to replace was a rear wheel bearing in just over 12 months ownership.

    Great video and nice review, thanks for making this! I've been eyeing for candidates as my wife's next car, she's had a J11 Nissan Qashqai for a tad over a year but she's been disappointed with its handling and capabilities during winter. Plus it's been in the garage at least once a month for having various fixes and repairs done. I wasn't originally interested in this CR-V, but now I think I need to go and find a nice one for test drive. ;-)
    BTW, I agree: The Mk2 was the last of the Funky CR-Vs and I kind of miss the functionality of them. Too bad the road noise in those was awful and the 2-litre petrol engine was dangerously slow!
