@@boarderking133 The list is based on who the better "MC" is. Hiphop is based on who could MC=Move the crowd. Dancing is one of the 5 elements of hiphop. And pac embodied all 5 elements.
Think Nas is the closest to the overall GOAT. Hes got the classic albums, classic songs, and the numbers to back it up. Hes the closest to having all the traits that make a great MC. Jay Z has better punches, Em probably has better rhyme patterns, Pac might be more poetic. But nobody touches all those traits as a whole better than Nas. I also think hes the best story teller in hiphop. Classic freestyle and moments to add. Longevity as well.
Lupe is a phenomenal raper and he still studies the art and works on his craft to this day. So many of these other rappers don’t practice/study/ or even desire to develop. That’s like aspiring to be a great basketball player but only showing up to games. You’ll never improve. Rappers who even qualify to be the best, continue to seek growth in their craft. Those are the rappers that will be on my list 😉
Lyrically..like LYRICALLY.... Lupe is #1 I don't care who you are. This dude's freestyle is better than your favorite rappers written verses. And that's just facts
The thing I hate about lists is it’s personal preference no facts no objective and can be swayed by politics, bias point of views or just hate or misinformation ext
rudy garza not when you have a group of people from various backgrounds that can look at things objectively and approach the creation of the list from a scientifically unbiased standpoint. the way lupe breaks it down here kind of showcases that...
If you check out Homeboy Sandman, check out his Rucker Park 2008 verses, "72 Bars For Chosenberg" and his Tony Touch Freestyle. These are good intros to who he is and what he's about. He really loves hip hop
He’s right! U just can’t throw a list together & think that the artist on that list make it meet everyone’s criteria, needs or standards. Your list is just that, your list of favorite mcs or rappers to cater to your needs at any given moment.
Absolutley correct.. it's almost impossible to not make a list based off fandom. I even had even had to get out my feelings on some rappers, and ones I didn't like I became a fan after my friends were like bruh just listen to this person.
If we’re talking the best today lyrically, Oswin Benjamin, locksmith, elzhi, phonte. The Og’s rakim,Big L,Nas,,Lupe, pharomonche,Big daddy Kane,Ra the rugged man.
In the 90's, the heavy hitter TRUE rap labels DIDN'T generally sign wack MC's. U had to be AT LEAST good on the mic. I'm talking Def Jam, Loud, Bad Boy, Death Row, The Roc, etc. From there, u had legends like Biggie, Pac, Hov, DMX, Busta, Snoop, etc. who had the IT FACTOR to get the mainstream big time as well. They earned their credibility with their mic skills in the streets intitally though. And they still satisfied their core fanbase at the same time. Those guys would be all over MTV AND get love on pop radio. So these types of MCs were the TRUE TOTAL PACKAGE! From there, u had legends like Nas, Wu, Mobb, Redman, LOX, etc. who weren't all over pop radio and MTV. BUT they still had huge followings nonetheless though. So what that means is powerful labels like Death Row, Bad Boy, Def Jam, and the Roc had THE POWER to dictate LONG TERM mainstream policy. Which means SURE wack shit or pop rap would come and go. BUT the elite MC's who were the TOTAL PACKAGE had the staying power. Pac, BIG, Snoop, Hov, and DMX were among the biggest artists in ALL OF MUSIC! Not just hip hop! So when u have powerful forces like that, it EVENS the playing field! But with the advent of social media, MUCH MORE WACK SHIT seeps through the cracks. And those guys build such huge fanbases OF THE WACK SHIT that the record labels and radio station pay attention. So they can get their content to millions of people in manner that couldn't be done in the 90's. And those wack artists STILL won't have much staying power either. BUT they would have made HUGE MONEY faster in a lot of cases BEFORE their BULLSHIT RUN is over! So what KRS is talking about is LARGELY because of the elements I pointed out! The music isn't curated like it was in the 90's! There's MUCH MORE WACK SHIT than quality shit that hits the mainstream these days. Back in the 90's, there was MUCH MORE BALANCE!! So social media hurt hip hop in terms of the artists not being able to monetize their work the same. And secondly, MUCH MORE wack shit seeped through the cracks that WOULDN'T have back in the day. Even an artist like Hammer was a GREAT ENTERTAINER at least! No where near a great MC, BUT he had his lane! Some of these artists today FRANLY aren't elite MC's or elite entertainers. They just talk shit over a great beat. And the beat SELLS IT because it's about shaking ass and getting fucked up!
I do believe that the lists need to spell out the criteria to justify rapper’s placement on the list. There only needs to be 3 lists. 1. Greatest Rapper (overall) 2. Best Hip-Hop Artist (songwriting) 3. Best Lyricist (str8 up bars)
Very well put! I would say that the one thing he left out about lists is that some people just do it for fun. No deep agenda or focused reason. Sometimes it's also just a simple need to put one's own thoughts in order and take a snapshot in time that shows how you felt at that time or were passionate about. At the oof the day it's like Lupe was really saying is that we all have an opinion that is based on our own personal biases.
@mike dollars He dont make hits? Lmao what Lupe has more hits than most people on the list. Kick Push, Superstar, Paris, Tokyo, The Show Goes On, Daydreamin, Hiphop Saved My Life, Battle Scars.. All huge records. And yes Lupe will outrap just about everyone on that list.
Lupe the top of my list for sure. Never heard an emcee do what he does. But every list is subjective because music is subjective. Do you prioritize lyrics? hooks? performance? flow? storytelling? concept? punchlines? rhyme schemes? vocabulary? authenticity? longevity? Depending on that, my list would change. if I went longevity, I go for Jay-Z. Hooks, it might be 50. flow, it might be Twista or Busta. Punches, it might be Fab or Banks. It could change.
Each list is mainly about the Lister himself more than anything definitive about the artform . Any compiled list is, at best, self-expression . Therefore, I don't take any credence in any of them, not even my own lol .
I agree but he said he doesn't think it has value unless they consider certain criteria instead of just a vague list with no justification behind placement because there is so much to base it off of.
@@brosie15 😂 i definitely didn't care about certain categories but i do understand. Like best lyrical artist of this era best story teller of another than analyzing how they may compare across generations rather than considering every eras emcees in a broad general sense.
Marvin Bennett until people take it seriously and it negatively impact the discussion. The discussion is always great. People learn about artists they never might have heard of. It’s just taking it public like some of these media figures do is the silly part. That’s when credibility comes into play and can do more damage than benefit.

Omar Scruggs actually no, when you monetize a RUclips video they ask you how many skippable or non-skippable adds you would like on your video. The more ads the more ads you choose, the more revenue you get.

I feel like people feel like they have PHDs in Punchlines and Rap. Why can't we all just accept that the best rapper is just the most relatable and heart felt? That was Tupac, point blank. And if you disagree, well, have a good day. Enjoy dinner
Fact of the matter is there are others who can pull at your heart strings and turn around and spit bars on a caliber way higher than Pac. No doubt an invaluable addition to hip hop but I never saw him as one of the best lyricists.

Lupe should definitely have been in that top 10
+1
Your facts
But I do know he is great lyrically
Andre 3000
He is up there
Lupe is the GOAT
The thing I hate about lists is it’s personal preference no facts no objective and can be swayed by politics, bias point of views or just hate or misinformation ext
rudy garza not when you have a group of people from various backgrounds that can look at things objectively and approach the creation of the list from a scientifically unbiased standpoint. the way lupe breaks it down here kind of showcases that...
music isnt even objective
It's a trolling list. Don't care too much for these things. Live goes on.
Lupe you will go down as one of the best mcs
Lupe, MF DOOM, Myka Nyne, Kendrick Lamar, Rza, Gza, inspectah Deck, and the legend Ice Cube
Good list
rebel I.N.S. and GZA!!!
Loving the Myka Nyne love, Aceyalone should be there as well though
The black comedians in the sixties created the art form of rapping
Rudy raymore aka dolamite
Lupe mentioning Boy Sand as an influence just made my day.
If you check out Homeboy Sandman, check out his Rucker Park 2008 verses, "72 Bars For Chosenberg" and his Tony Touch Freestyle. These are good intros to who he is and what he's about. He really loves hip hop
Jumbo Owens Aesop rock is the name
Lupe put this shit in Perspective, This is why I gotta holla at that Society of Spoken Art, do you have to be assigned artist to be an apprentice
Lupe and Homeboy Sandman collaboration would be fire!
Let's skip the bullshit and just get a trio between Aes, Homeboy and Lupe. That would shut the underground down.
Constance Alicia no Conway, Butch, Gunn?
@@jamesegner3389 Not Gunn but Conway and Benny are elite new school.
He's saying EVERYTHING I'm thinking right now
In the 90's, the heavy hitter TRUE rap labels DIDN'T generally sign wack MC's.
Nice essay amigo.
I do believe that the lists need to spell out the criteria to justify rapper’s placement on the list. There only needs to be 3 lists. 1. Greatest Rapper (overall) 2. Best Hip-Hop Artist (songwriting) 3. Best Lyricist (str8 up bars)
Thanks
Nas and Lupe is the 2 best to ever do it
And Nick Tronson is 3rd.
Rakim
Nas
Black Thought
Aesop Rock
MF DOOM
@@nicktronson2977 nah, you'd be quite a bit behind me, homey

This video should be mandatory for all rappers, prospective and experienced; both young and old.
I always want to hear what Lupe has to say he makes sense most of the time.
Even people who do this have a criteria that navigates why they just want to rap for fun.
Lupe is better than 90% of his list and he has him at 44?? Excuse me while I find my thumbs down button...... Found it! 👎🏾👎🏾
Lupe will not be in top 50 of 90% of rap fans list. Lets just be real
mike dollars one dimensional... triple entendres, story telling SUPREME writing ability okay sure
@@MenaceIISocietys he is a Great Lyricist. Definitely top 5 in that category.
@mike dollars thats def not reductive😖 move on
@mike dollars He dont make hits?
Story telling Nas or Slick Rick
DrewTube1212 SkyWalker storytelling is Andrew 3000 and everybody else is 2nd tier to him.
And GZA is up for Barz... I move with the speed and strenght of ants....
Deck should be on there for sure. Never had a lacking verse ever
GZA was fire. So many Great Lyrical emcees..Cappadonna Bodied all them on Winter Warz
Bbbbboooorrrrriiiinnnnggggggg
My top five are Em, Nas, K-dot, Lupe, Biggie
Like em said “i am the goat and I don’t have to say a motherfucking thing cause mc’s know”
This was THE most accurate way I've heard on how to break down these lists.
Each list is mainly about the Lister himself more than anything definitive about the artform . Any compiled list is, at best, self-expression . Therefore, I don't take any credence in any of them, not even my own lol .
Facts
I dont agree that a non rapper cant be a judge of pure technical skill but i felt everything else
I agree but he said he doesn't think it has value unless they consider certain criteria instead of just a vague list with no justification behind placement because there is so much to base it off of.
@@mgilbert9004 he named too much criteria if ya ask me lol... i really dont care who's hot on social media 😂
@@brosie15 😂 i definitely didn't care about certain categories but i do understand. Like best lyrical artist of this era best story teller of another than analyzing how they may compare across generations rather than considering every eras emcees in a broad general sense.
Yea when I saw Ebro's list a few days ago it kinda pissed me off tbh
Pac
Nas
Jay
Ross
Dmx
Lupe
Em
Canibus
Cole

2. 2Pac
3. Eminem
4. Lupe Fiasco
5. Jay Z
@Marlon Varnell Good list👍
Good to see somebody else with Lupe Fiasco in there top 5
Daniel Still Lupe better than all those dudes LYRICALLY
bleachlover 2000 none of the rappers listed have done or can do what Lupe does LYRICALLY!!
Y’all forgot about Andre 3000
Awesome break down of the importance of subjectivity!
People need to stop creating AND PUBLICLY SHOWING top rapper list. There will NEVER be a consensus on it.
Marvin Bennett until people take it seriously and it negatively impact the discussion. The discussion is always great. People learn about artists they never might have heard of. It’s just taking it public like some of these media figures do is the silly part. That’s when credibility comes into play and can do more damage than benefit.
I agree 💯 with what he said man Lupe is a legend and super underrated
I remember those bubble gum grape candies lol. Came in all different fruit flavor as well
REAL TALK and THE STRAIGHT UP FACTS RIGHT HERE!
I doubt that anyone can disagree with what Lupe is saying on this.
Hov is not over Nas, ( name some rappers he didn't influence" big, pac, jay, were sum, so what that say about Nasir Jones
xGRIM-_- REAPERX- I got this locked since nine one I am the truest, name a rapper that I ain’t influence.
Bro you smokin .. Back in 1996 nas was better. As of today Jay is better
Nas didn't influence pac u dummy but nas definitely over jay z
Nas should be anywhere in TOP 03 no matter what , people still want Ill' 02, even though Sill' 01 , is implied as 02 lol.
Hov is so over Nas now that it's not even a debate. Nas has too many flops. This was a legit debate in like 92', that shit over with now.
It was an honor to see and hear lupe break this issue down! What an honor

You're the real MVP. Thanks

You da real MVP
1. MFDOOM (most technical skill)
2. Jay-z ( most consistent, three classic albums, best song ever written (can I live)
3. Nas (best hip-hop album ever made- illmatic)
4. Lupe Fiasco (smartest rapper ever, invincible metaphors and entendres)
Everybody else.
Kanye West is the only man on Ebro’s list who’s first 5 albums are ALL classics and he’s number 50. LOL.
If you happened to dislike this, can you explain why?!
Awesome breakdown Lupe
MF DOOM 🎶👑
HOV 🎶💰👑
LUPE Fiasco🎶🎨🎓❤💛💚👑
My list coming soon
Prodigy 👀
Shit the most of what he said applies to Eminem. Skill .longevity . Battle. Sales. Flow. Freestyle. Content but no list is the best list everyone have his favorites
Br..o you!Gotta chill with all the ads
The person creating the content has no control over ads. RUclips does that
Omar Scruggs actually no, when you monetize a RUclips video they ask you how many skippable or non-skippable adds you would like on your video. The more ads the more ads you choose, the more revenue you get.
Omar Scruggs he has . Also it is just disrespectful to record lupe's video and post it on your channel with 50 ads to make some money
I enjoyed this. Especially the MF Doom and Aseop Rock references. I definitely study them and Mr. Fiasco for my personal shower concerts. My one gripe though, could we please get more adds and less content, please? Ty
@@cloudedthought6944 And that's the bottom liiiiiiiiine, because sTooooooooone coooold, said sooo!
