Always show removal as well as replacement, it always helps to do so.

It would have been nice if you actually shown the disconnection of all the wires and the removal of the old starter. There are many of us that are not professional mechanics and struggle with what you obviously take for granted. I will have to look elsewhere for a more comprehensive video detailing the R & R of a HHR starter.

Right on brother, I needed this knowledge. My chevy does the same thing and come to find out it could be many issues happening all at once. One being the starter this confirms my suspicions. Thank you kindly.
Taps with hammer then should run until you can replace it
Easy you need a screw driver and a hammer few taps after you test it with screwdriver, then tap tap tap (light) taps.

Our 2008 HHR LS has 146k on it, this issue just manifested itself last week. Alternator was replaced 6 months ago, has new battery. Car does have after market remote start, but I also suspect a bad starter. Wish we had leather in ours, this one is an LT.

Hi Mark I've done all the things necessary in watching your video I have an 2008 chevy hhr 2.2 liter I'm still not getting no start no crank situation any ideas please help
My HHR won't start I can here the start click but won't turn over any Idea what might be the problem?
My 2007 will not start . It does same thing . The difference is the yellow security light after turning over and other lights go out it stays on preventing car from starting....I think. I put new battery in and still nothing.
What is the sensor above the starter which may result in a oil leak from what I recall "oil pressure sensor" of some sort . I replaced mine awhile back due to the starter being cover with oil and dirt , I just can not remember what the sensor is call ( so I can buy a new sensor before I replace the oil covered starter with a new one ) . Thanks !

Only prob is that you said customer complained about *intermittent* not starting. iI still may not be fixed.
The top starter bolt that you can’t see when putting starter back in take bolt with you to parts store gets rubber o ring that fits tight on bolt put bolt through hole in starter put oring over bolt all the way then put starter in hole that way bolt won’t fall out then screw your bottom bolt in a little then your top bolt tighten bolt bolts a little at a time
I have the same problem with the 2006 But I am taking it to the shop spent thousands of dollars and I'm still having the same issue
Honestly homie they might not have even done anything to your car , often times some mechanics can do shady work or not do any work at all

REPLACED STARTER, (DURALAST, ) AUTOZONE.. WORKED FOR 1 DAY... SECOND ONE IN A YEAR, WON'T CRANK, AUTOZONE SAYS CODE P0016. CHECKED FUSES, OK. IGNITION RECALL WAS REPLACED BY DEALER. ????
Not helping, I need to see how to get the sensor cable off the starter. You didn't show any of that
The device on top of the starter housing at one time was the Bendix . It pushed the spinning gear into the crank. Way back 55 Chevy had this problem. You would hear a spinning gear that did was not being pulled into the cranking gear. Being a kid With no money you would remove the started. It was about twice the size as the HHRs. Open the Bendix reverse the contact to the side not as wore and only sometimes to would make better contact and activate the starter. Shade tree fixes still looking at a starter problem after all these years.
