Excellent review. I also transitioned from an E30 M3 to an E36 M3 sedan about 7 years ago. It even has the Dinan V2 exhaust... I parked my M3 in favor of my E90 335d several years ago. Though the diesel is pretty quick and comfortable for my daily commute, i sit around and reminisce about my M3.
Great video review, I'm a proud owner of a 98 vert in helrot red. All stock and in outstanding shape with all maintenance up to par. Sitting at 73K miles. These cars are so raw, reliable, and head turners even as they get close to being 20 years old.
Disagree with the "don't get the convertible" comment. They're the most rare, especially in a manual. Sure, it's heavier and wobbles more than a tourist at Oktoberfest but who cares? It's a 20 year old car, just about everything on the road is faster/quicker. Might as well drop the top, listen to the exhaust, feel the dreamy handling/suspension, and smell the roses along the way. I bought a brand new '95 M3 (in 95) and should have never sold it...but when I decided to get another one, I got a '98 'vert 5MT. :)
Much love for the vert, man. Great car, agree with you on the exhaust and roses! If I didn't have a Miata for those moments, I'd consider a E36m cabbie!
urgetodrive agree 100 percent. No idea why people crap on the vert. Like a Lil weight will make a world of a difference. We are not on a track you know! I think if you can get an M, get it!
Amazing video dude. I own a 1998 Silver Sedan M3 with 180k just like this one in and out and she is my first car. Need suspension work done but you know she's due for it.
I have a similar car with blk interior. I recommend the Turner Stage 3+ package to anyone with this car, it really brings it closer to the Euro model. I have the LTW wheels also, and the TC Klein coilovers do the same for the suspension...love my car. I really think the stock or stock sounding exhaust sounds the best....but then again I like to walk softly and carry a big stick Great review
Great review!! I agree...To me is a special car. The S52vsS50 doesn't really matter to me. I know some go crazy over it... nevertheless it is still a punchy lil classic German sports car that sounds amazing and handle extremely well. And yes I have driven (s50B32) and now own a e46 M3 but there is something about the E36 chassis that is timeless. I enjoyed the video!
Glad I found your video. Excellent review. I have an NSX and '16 WRX both close to stock. I have a heavily modded and track prepped e46 Touring. I'm picking up / rescuing a Porsche 951as well. And I've been on the fence about an e36 M3. I think you sold me on 1 ! I found an Excellent example for sale from an enthusiast who also has an e46 M3 and e39 M5 looking to thin out his collection . It's also a Titanium Silver 98 sedan
Great Video and Car! I actually live in the same area and own an E36 M3/4/6 (e46 m3 trans swap). Visually our cars are nearly identical...Arctic Silver, Blacked Out Kidney Grills, Silver Corners, LTW Wheels. Hope to see you out there some time!
What can I say, great minds think alike! Glad to see your channel picking up a decent bit of viewership. I thoroughly enjoyed this review and many of your others.
I spent $6.8k on a 1998 sedan, 168k miles, manual, factory wing, and with M Contour wheels. I thought I got a steal on it. The car was a super clean Florida car though, and it has a good maintenance history and nice performance modifications. I think $10k for the example in this video is a good price if you like the options/color it has.
+1D0N I'd love to drive a euro spec car, and yes, I might be impressed. The point of the video was to explain that the US spec car is awesome and not the red-headed-stepchild everyone seems to think it is.
+FlyingLap it's not bad by any means, but the ROW engine is of a totally different calibre. But if you have experienced the S54, well the S50B32 is very close to that. I met an American last summer at the Nordschleife entrance who was doing his Euro delivery of his new M3. He owned an E36 and E46 M3. I took him for a spin in my M3 and he said it just felt and sounded like his E46 M3.
U.S specs are quicker from a stop! 0-60 in 5.6 seconds 190 torques at 2400rpm,euro specs are quicker up top. That was their purpose 2.5 bored to 3.0 -1995 U.S spec e36 m3 is nuts to butts'' in 1st,2nd and 3rd'' revs to 6800rpm in the first 2 gears, U.S spec's have a fatter torque curve down low in the power band.Euro Specs 3.0 and 3.2 are gone after 90mph.
+carlito montana lol. The US is not faster in anywhere. We meaasure 0-100km/h which is 62mph, which it does in 5.5 sec, 5.6 for convertible. So it's faster anywhere, and you get that extra power up top. Also the EU (3.2) makes 350Nm at 3250rpm, S52 320Nm @ 3800rpm. Again, the US is faster anywhere and everywhere on power and torque anywhere in the revband. Because the US lack that rush up top, it feels more powerful down low, but is not.
1D0N you have not driven a u.s spec e36 m3, you are on every u.s spec video bitching moaning about nonsense. You're a Loser ! I've owned every model besides the African spec &Australian spec. There is not much difference until you get well beyond 90 - 135mph.
Like the video until you said don't get the convertible. Smh. Why? A little more weight? We are not on a track so who cares? Just as beautiful, as fast as the coupe or vert. Again, not on the track. The vert gives it a new lines to appreciate aswell.
European car has 65-80 more horsepower, better suspension, better brakes. Is it better? How can you even ask that question... It's like comparing a stock 335 to an M3.
man im 16 i saved up for a e36 i sadly coudlnt find an M3 but i settled for a great condition 140k mile 328i for 5k and dont regret it.
Excellent review. I also transitioned from an E30 M3 to an E36 M3 sedan about 7 years ago. It even has the Dinan V2 exhaust...

73k, dang. You need to drive it!
I will agree, it's just hard to find a very clean and stock e36 M3 this one is awesome! With the silver and the gray leather interior is excellent

Sedan m3 looks mature.
you think so?
Amazing video dude. I own a 1998 Silver Sedan M3 with 180k just like this one in and out and she is my first car. Need suspension work done but you know she's due for it.
Thanks man!
Great review of a clean E36 M3/4/5. The market price on these seem to be going up, so I think you got a decent deal on yours.
Thanks man, I appreciate it!

Thanks Dan, I appreciated it. I've driven and owned an E46M, too. You're right, something about the E36
Glad I found your video. Excellent review. I have an NSX and '16 WRX both close to stock. I have a heavily modded and track prepped e46 Touring. I'm picking up / rescuing a Porsche 951as well. nice cars i love M3 & m5 old body 100% Germany, Now my ride 2016 Tacoma
i sold my E60 550i and my X5 4.8i many problems
Great Video and Car! I actually live in the same area and own an E36 M3/4/6 (e46 m3 trans swap). Visually our cars are nearly identical...Arctic Silver, Blacked Out Kidney Grills, Silver Corners, LTW Wheels. Hope to see you out there some time!
And you have an S2000? And I just sold my S2000. This is getting weird....
What can I say, great minds think alike! Glad to see your channel picking up a decent bit of viewership. I thoroughly enjoyed this review and many of your others.
I appreciate the kind words, man, really.
Performance and handling wise what you say is better this car or a s2k? Or are they neck to neck? Nice vid btw!
i think at the time u made a good choise giving up the e30 m3. even though now noone would. back then everyone would have had the e36 instead
great review. great car
Good analysis
how is this car now considering theres a lot of cars on the market
How does the convertible compare to the coupe & sedan? Someone selling one in my area for 4k with 132k miles
Convertibles are great, although, they're 300 pounds heavier. So, if you're looking for uber performance, stick to a hardtop.
Only $4k? Buy it!
probably automatic. vert + automatic is =(
That'll be a vert with hardtop then :)
It needs the three spoke steering wheel though..
Is that on Mount Vernon Church road in Raleigh??
damn dude, good eye!
10k is high for a sedan the actual value of that car is worth between 5k-8k good to excellent condition for a coupe with like 115k miles
The market is heating up. If you can find a clean 115k mile M3 for 5 - 8k, but it now!!!
I spent $6.8k on a 1998 sedan, 168k miles, manual, factory wing, and with M Contour wheels. I thought I got a steal on it. Most review vids about the E36 M3 are always US spec vids, which is kind of a shame...

Ya, loved my S54. Been considering getting back into an E46 just for that engine. I think it's the best M engine to date...

same suspension and brakes.
not even close. euro m3s hit 60 .2 seconds quicker. M3s hit 60 a whole second faster than the 335i.
no
He sold the E30 ouch
Me got e36 v4.sound sport..bring money wallet.
this M3 has no Vader seats wtf???
Sedan never came with Vaders.
+FlyingLap not true
FlyingLap is correct. Sedans never came with Vaders from the factory. Any sedan with Vaders had them installed after the fact.
