"Better Be Good to Me" is a song written by Mike Chapman, Nicky Chinn and Holly Knight, and recorded by Tina Turner for her fifth studio album, Private Dancer (1984). The song was originally recorded and released in 1981 by Spider, a band from New York City with co-writer Holly Knight as a member. Tina Turner's version was successful in the United States on the Hot 100 and the US R&B/Hip-Hop chart. It peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and number six on the US R&B/Hip-hop chart. At the 27th Grammy Awards in 1985, it won Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female, one of four Grammys awarded to Turner's Private Dancer at that ceremony.[

She made sure to let You Know that You Better Be Good to Her. She didn't take no crap After what Ike put Her through. When She left Him, She Became a Better Version of Herself. It made Her Realize Her Strength & Capability to Stand On Her Own, Know what She wants, and Come Alive for Her & Her Fans. She's a Legend that absolutely Rocked the 80s. Tina! What an absolute legend. One of my all time fave female vocalists. She is a powerhouse. Incredible what she had to deal with in her life and how she succeeded in the end! So many amazing songs from her including this one! So glad I got to see her live in concert many years ago! It was amazing!
🏆 The unique power of Tina Turner. Some people are just forever iconic. Such unique percussion in this song, and just such a great song. It’s almost ASMR with those industrial sounds. Tina once said that one of the things she finds most attractive in a man is beautiful hands. I remember when I read that quote I thought how she might associate beautiful hands with gentle hands, after all the violence she’d been through. She found a good love in the 80s because she’s still with him. They married only recently after having been together for nearly 30 years 💕 And now she’s a Swiss citizen.

This was my favorite song from Tina's 80s Era, and one of my favorite 80s songs period. I believe she won a Grammy for best rock vocal for this one.
For YEARS I wondered why the singer from The Fixx turned up in the video for this song. I only later found out that the song was actually a collaboration with that band (that's them on the instruments). Looks like I'll need to make them a Patron's Pick at some point!

Same songwriter as Pat Benatar's Love Is A Battlefield and Invincible, and Scandal's The Warrior. Holly Knight wrote kick-ass anthems for women in the '80s. So good!!
Such a great song and performance. This was a radio edit/single release. The album version I believe adds maybe another verse or chorus but it's just as good. I don't mind a long version of this song, Tina can deliver!
I went back and forth on album vs radio. The album version is almost 2 minutes longer, and I didn't want Empress to get bored!!

Tina was my childhood idol and I listened to that album all the time, and I sang all the songs though I didn't understand English at all haha.
